The innovative SVE elementshave low cost solutions for:– Air flow volume adjustmentand optimised distribution inducting system of centralisedventilation units.

– Sound level reduction throughabsorption of air flow and fannoises.

In order to increase the sound level reduction, several elementscan be mounted in series, oneafter the other. Two elementsvirtually doubling the insertionloss.

Performance figures andinsulation standardsThe diagrams give an overviewabout air flow volumes andpressure levels according to thenumber of holes. The red linesand dB(A) values show the noiselevels of elements (LWA).The sound power levels for therelated frequency (noise level ofSVE elements) are available assum levels in the installationmanuals and operating instruc-tions. The values on the tablegive the insulation standard Defor the corresponding frequency.

At the minimum static pressurelevel the butterfly valve opensthe cross section completely.

The guiding cylinder is responsi-ble for an equal movement offlaps and controls therefore therelation between pressure andair flow volume.

Installation Simple insertion in vertical or

horizontal ducts, matchingnominal duct diameter.

The direction shown for the airflow must be considered.

Perfect fitting and tightness isensured due to textile sealingstrip.

Easy change of air flow volumefor each diameter of VKH.Thereby the other system inletsand outlets are not affected.

Automatic adjustment to giveconstant air flow volume overa wide pressure range.

 Quick installation.

Made of flame retardant poly-mer, class B1 DIN 4102-1.

Function With an increasing pressure lev-

el the air flow velocity increases. The pressure against the butter-fly valve decreases the openingcross section and keeps the airflow volume constant.

Automatically achieving con-stant air flow volume the VKH isan easy and low cost solutionthat ensures a constant air flowvolume desired for a wide rangeof pressures.

OperationSimply insert the automaticvolume stabiliser in the duct orduct components, either supplyor extract. The VKH gives thepreset air volume over a diffe-rential pressure range of approx.50 – 200 Pa.

 Advantages Measuring and balancing on

building site omitted; thereby thesystem can be commissionedfaster.

Secure and simple design. Ensuring a constant air flow

volume, even at low counterpressure.

Preliminary filter elementsprevent the build-up of fatand dust on extract air ele-ments and poppet valves,as well as in the ductingsystem.

Slide-in cross-talk soundattenuators reduce the noisefrom the ducting system andtelephony from one residen-tial unit to another.

VENTILATION ANDPOPPET VALVES

506on

The ventilation valves (DLV),the design of which has wonseveral awards, fit in beauti-fully and inconspicuously inany home atmosphere.

Conventional poppet valvesfor exhaust air and supplyair operation are ideally suit-ed for various industrial andcommercial applications.

OUTSIDE AIR FLOWSUPPLY ELEMENTS

512on

Outside air elements are themost efficient way of ensur-ing the scheduled supply ofair in compliance with thestandards. The number, size and placement of theelements are to be definedsuch that the required vol-ume can be dosed and canflow in without causing adraught. According to DIN1946-6, it should be takeninto account when sizingthe extract air elements thatan indoor pressure is notmore than around 8 Pabelow the outside pressure.

EXTRACT AIR ELEMENTS

501on

Alongside the fan, extractair elements form the basisfor demand-optimised func-tion in central ventilationsystems. By equippingthem with varying air flowvolumes or time, motionand moisture control fulfil, the innovative extract airelements (AE) from Heliosare ideal for fulfilling require-ments in this area.

The ideal solution for all types of room and use.

Acoustic data for extract air elements of series AEThe following sound levels are relevant for the extract air elements:– Sound power level for permanent air flow (Lw in dB (A))– Sound insulation between ducting system and ventilated room

(Dn,e in dB (A)).

This sound data is specified in the respective type table. They weremeasured according to the standard EN 13141.The sound insulation value can be increased by using attenuator “AESD”or “AESE” (accessories), which is to be positioned and simply insertedbehind the extract air element.Cross talk attenuators are available for further noise reduction (p. 505).

Fire safety systems and shutter elements

Seal it up if there is a fire.

The aim of preventive firesafety in multi-storey buildingsis to prevent the spread of fireto adjacent floors and rooms. The construction ordinancestherefore divide apartmentunits or rooms into so-calledunits of usable area (fire sec-tion), the ceilings and walls ofwhich have to fulfil specificrequirements in terms of theirfire resistance duration.

As supply lines such as ventila-tion ducts cross fire sections, their openings are to be fittedwith shutter elements with therequired classifications.

According to building regulationsventilation ducts that cross morethan two storeys vertically must beprotected against fire and smoke. These conditions have beenfulfilled so far through installing theventilation duct in a fire proof shaft. This has some disadvantages suchas high investment cost, need oflarge space and longer buildingtime, especially the constructionof two shafts (separation of themixed installation shaft from theventilation shaft).

The use of ELS-D firedampers results in variousbenefits such as:

Ventilation ducting can beplaced in mixed instal lationshaft with simple, 12,5 mm thickplasterboard cladding.

ELS-D are completely mainte-nance free. Additional fire resis-tant elements that might needmaintenance are not necessary.

Allows the in-duct ventilationunits to be connected via Aluflexducting without fire protectionsheathing and fire protectiondamper.

In central ventilation systems, the poppet valves or air flowcontrolling extract air elementscan be replaced with units madeof polymer. In order to avoidcold smoke cold smokedampers (KAK) to be used.

The extraction of air fromkitchens is admissible.

The constructional and function-al advantages of prewall installa-tions or registers can be uncon-ditionally implemented.

Approximate reduction of thespace required to the DN ofthe main ducting through axialrotation during installation(width like narrow side forwardor diagonal).

The full cross section of the ven-tilation duct remains, that meansno additional pressure drop.Cleaning and maintenanceworks are not hindered.

General Technical Approvalfrom DIBt with no. Z-41.3-368.Fire resistance class:K 90-18017 (three-storey test).

SpecificationCasing made of galvanisedsheet steel with integratedspigot on top and bottom. The top spigot can also beused as ceiling lead through.

Two stage function The shutter closes first at ap-prox. 90 °C and prevents thetransmission of high tempera-tures to other storeys.

At approx. 180 °C the integrat-ed fire rated foam seals the ven-tilation ducting completely abovethe shutter.

InstallationELS-D can be easily installedsingle handed vertically againstthe bottom part of the floor slabor in installation registers. Thefire damper is to be fixed withtwo mounting fish plates, thatare held in grating and floorfinish. The ceiling leadthrough isalready integrated in ELS-D.Thanks to the standard connec-tion nozzles the main ductingcan be simply imposed and in-serted to the other side like afitting.

AccessoriesCold smokedamperPrevents anyreverse flow ofcold smoke in central ventilationsystems and much else in otherventilation zones while the fan isnot working. (Not required in indi-vidual ventilation systems.)Type KAK 100 Ref. no. 4097DN 100 mmType KAK 125 Ref. no. 4098DN 125 mm

The following is stipulated in theModel Building Regulation andvarious Regional ConstructionOrdinances:The spreading of fire and smokemust be prevented !The automatic Helios coldsmoke damper with magneticlock meets this requirement. They seal the supply or extractair system as required in fireregulations.

ApplicationAccording to DIN 18017-3 thecentral extract ventilation sys-tems in multi-storey dwellingshave common mains and a cen-tral fan that is specified above orbelow the ceiling. The affiliated rooms (e.g. kitchen, bathroom, toilet) in the respec-tive storey ventilation zone) areventilated through the extract airducting. The mains cross multi-ple ventilation zones they mustbe led into a fire-resistant (F90classified) shaft. The extract airvents in each ventilation zonemust be equipped with firedampers or fire safety valves. These costly and space occupy-ing solutions can be replacedwith certified fire dampers whichare integrated or moulded onthe route of mains in the ceilingarea. Thereby the mains can beintegrated in the installationshaft.

Regional building regulations aswell as general technical ap-provals for shut-off elementsand fire dampers ensure that anexhaust air flow on the verticallyattached shut-off device in themains must always be securedto outside through the mains. The requirement becomes rele-vant, if the central fan breaksdown, in case of fire and the

smoke reaches to the mains inthe room due to excess pres-sure and also enters areas

(other ventilation zones) whichare not affected by fire due toupcoming air pressure throughopenings (poppet valves).

The Helios cold smokedampers KAK with magneticlock prevent cold smoke fromentering other ventilationzones. They must be posi-tioned in all supply / extractair vents behind the poppetvalves or extract air elements(also in combination withBAE/BAK).

Design Ready to install element forinsertion in ducting and fittings.

Frames with surrounding U-lipseal ring made of EPDM gasketto seal the ventilation duct.

Shutter frames on both sidesmade of polymer with metal in-sert encompass the siliconmembrane. Therefore the shutter sits quietlyin the air stream.

A permanent magnet whichseals the shutter at low pressurelevels is located on a thread axisIn the inner cylinder frame.

Closing and opening pressurecan be adjusted to the installa-tion circumstances.

The very low installation depthand the asymmetric shape ofthe shutter frames, which ensurea big opening angle, are particu-larly beneficial.

Installation and setting While inserting KAK into ducting, the air flow direction must beconsidered.

For vertical installation withhorizontal air flow, the horizontalpositioning of rotation axis mustbe considered.

Positioning must be directly be-hind the poppet valve or behindthe air inlet /outlet.

Fire protection ventilation tileBLS

Fire protection ventilation tiles allow intake and extract ventila-tion in rooms and compartmentsprotected against fire and smoketransmission, such as installa-tion shafts and cable ducts. They enable a constant, static airchange, which prevents the heatbuild-up in the closed compart-ments.Furthermore, the tiles serve asair vent openings in the walls ofnecessary corridors (emergencyroutes), as long as the openingsare located on the lower part ofthe wall.

Special featuresFire resistance class F 30 toF 120 conforms to DIN 4102part 2 (see the box on the right).

BLS consists of intumescentpainted building material withDIBt approval.Furthermore, the regulations forthe use and installation of BLSshould be taken from thegeneral technical approvalno. Z-19.18-2065.

Maintenance and inspection-free, no moving parts.

Simple installation. Resistant against humidity, mostoils, benzine and weak acids.

During the installation processthe classification of buildingcomponents is not affected. Theventilation tiles are finished withorganic intumescent material, that foams up under the effectof heat. Openings, slots andjoints close and thereby preventfire and smoke transmission.

Each brick is delivered with twoventilation grilles made of gal-vanised sheet steel. These should be attached oncethe tile is in position on one sideor both sides as mechanicalprotection and optical claddingdepending on the area of appli-cation, i.e. screwed to the con-struction (wall).

Rectangular fire protection venti-lation tiles must be installed hori-zontally.

In case of weaker walls, on-sitereinforcement with fibre silicateframes in area of BLS.

Motor protectionRegulations and standardsThe harmonised Europeanstandards and national installa-tion directives require thermaloverload protection for electricmotors. This can be achieved invarious ways and depends onthe motor specification.

Optimal protection is providedby thermal contacts (“TK” con-secutively), which monitor themotor winding temperature. These contacts protect alsothe speed controlled motors.

For low motor powers, thethermal contacts are wired inseries with the motor windings,in other words, they are internal-ly wired. This ensures an auto-matic function (resetting aftercooling), without the operatorreacting necessarily on the inter-ference.

For motors/ fans with higherperformances the leads of thethermal contacts or PTCthermistor-temperature sensorare wired to the terminal blockand must be connected to theadjacent motor full protection/tripping units. Only under thiscondition is the warranty claimvalid.

Motors/ fans without thermalmonitoring elements in thewindings (e.g. IEC norm motors)must be secured on all poles bya suitable motor protectionswitch.

If the nominal response tempera-ture in PTC thermistors reaches aset limit the built-in relay discon-nects the motor. The fault is indi-cated by a light emitting diode.Restarting via pressing the “Reset”button or an external switch. Electronic speed controllerfor stepless speed controlof single phase fans

Multiple, different fans can beoperated with a controller up tothe full load capacity. A reserveof 10% must be consideredwhen calculating.

The minimum output voltagecan be adjusted to motor char-acteristics via potentiometer.Values must not fall below thelower limit for liquid motorstart-up!

Overload protection from built-infine wire fuse.

Additional connection of indica-tor lights or shutter possible viaunregulated output.

 Corresponds to EMC guidelines,DIN EN 50370, DIN EN 61000 /VDE 0838, DIN EN 55014,DIN EN 60669.

Version ESU 1 and ESU 3A HELIOS innovation

Both types are compatible withthe standard light switch pro-grammes of many manufac-

turers. Thus, the speed controller can

be integrated in the existingswitch programme on-site.Colour matching is also not aproblem. Frame, central insertand rotary knob are taken fromthe “dimmer programme“ of theswitch series and connected.

Standard delivery includes: Controller insert, flush mounted

cover plate and rotary knobmade from white polymer.

Operating display through cir-cumferential light ring on rotaryknob.

Surface mounted models– Attractive, totally closed casing

of polymer.– ESA 1 and ESA 3 with

illuminated control knob.

Important note Only motors which are suitable

for speed control via electroniccontrol should be used.

Electronic speed controllerswhich operate on the phasecontrol principle, can createhumming noises which canbe considered disturbing in thelower speed/voltage range.Silent transformer controllersshould be used for noise-criticalapplications.

Comfort design with all-pole sine filter for 3 ph. AC fans, 400 V, 50/60 Hz, protection to IP 54

General properties Inverter specially designed for

HLK use. Saves energy thanks to stepless

speed adjustments. Specially tailored to the fan mo-

tor, i.e. minimal energy con-sumption and noise in partialload operations.

Use of zero-maintenance alter-nating current asynchronousmotors with all construction de-signs and powers.

No power restriction when usingstandard motors.

 Operating notification via poten-tial-free contact.

 Potentiometer voltage supply:E.g. 10 V DC / 10 mA for poten-tiometer with 10 kOhm

 Analogue input for speed speci-fication (0-10 V, 0(4)-20 mA).

Short-circ.-proof and grounded. Built-in electronic motor protec-

tion via thermal contacts or PTCthermistors.

Electrically isolated control unit. Overvoltage protection Also suitable for installation into

a control cabinet. At amb. temp. of 40 °C – 55 °C,

consider a loss of performance.

Information Internal sine filter effective onall poles (types FU-..S)Filters the voltages between theindividual phases and string volt-age between phase and protec-tive conductor. Thus the outputvoltage of the frequency inverteris purely sinusoidal and matchesthe quality of a standard mainsvoltage.

Ground fault circuit inter-rupters (all types)When using the frequency in-verter in an environment that re-quires a ground fault circuit in-terrupter, this must match typeB+, 300 mA sensitive to univer-sal currents.

EMCAll FU types comply with theEMC Dir. 2004/108/EG and theapplicable standards such asDIN EN 60335-1 and DIN EN550011. Radio interference fil-ters are built in to ensure cl. B(res. area). For FU-B and FU-C,the line between the fan and fre-quency inverter must be shield-ed and must be no more than10 m long. Motor supply/temp.monitoring lines laid separately.

Design motor current /frequencyWhen selecting the right fre-quency inverter, the maximummotor current is to be used as astarting point. When operatingmultiple fans, the sum of the in-dividual currents is to be usedTo prevent faults and failures, a10% reserve should be includedin the plans. A maximum fre-quency of 50 Hz must not beexceeded when controlling thespeed of a series fan, as other-wise the motor will be over-loaded and broken.A higher-frequency operation isonly possible upon request.

Motor protectionMaximum motor protection isachieved through monitoring(thermal contacts / PTC thermis-tors); a maximum of 6 PTC ther-mistors can be connected to thedevice in series. It is possible toincrease the number of PTCthermistors by using monitoringdevices (type MSA, acces-sories).
