ACCESSIBILITY TRAINING
TOWN OF AYLMER
This training module is intended for Town of Aylmer employees and volunteers only. This is
not legal advice. Refer to the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation for more
information.
ACCESSIBILITY FOR ONTARIANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT, 2005- Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act
- Became law in 2005- Purpose: to allow for the development of accessibility
standards- Ensures organizations prevent and remove barriers for
people with disabilities
ACCESSIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE STANDARD- Accessible Customer Service Standard
- Became law in 2008- Requires organizations across Ontario to make their
services accessible to people with disabilities- Applies to all organizations in Ontario with one or more
employee

COMMUNICATION SUPPORTS- A communication support may be requested in order to
allow an individual with a disability to attend a meeting or participate in one of our services.
- Examples of communication supports include:
- American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter- Intervener- Communication Board- Text Transcript of Meeting Audio- Plain Language- Handwritten notes instead of spoken word
FEEDBACK
Town of Aylmer is required to:
1. Make sure that people with disabilities can comment on services they participate in.
2. Make sure that our systems for accepting feedback are accessible to people with disabilities.
Examples:- Are public meeting locations accessible?- If planning a survey, are accessible formats or a web version
available?
PURCHASING
What is accessible purchasing?
- Town of Aylmer is required to ensure that accessibility is considered when purchasing goods, services or facilities.
- Additional training is available to staff who have purchasing authority
ACCOMMODATIONS- Accommodations will be provided to employees in
accordance with HR Policy 2.16
- If you require an accommodation, please contact Town of Aylmer, human resources
Examples of workplace accommodations include, but are not limited to:
- Screen reader for an employee with a vision disability
- Voice recognition software for tasks that require speed (i.e.. data entry)

Each section is a separate training module (General Requirements, Information and Communications, Employment Standard, Transportation Standard, Design of Public Spaces) takes you to a required training module supplied by the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Employment through Curriculum Services Canada.

Each module will take approximately 20 minutes to complete and includes knowledge check areas. At the end of the training module a screen appears indicating that you have completed the section. A sign off sheet is provided below. Note the date and your name and forward to HR as proof the training has been completed. This should be signed by your direct supervisor. You can complete this training as a group or individually. Note for the purpose of the training Aylmer is considered a large designated public sector organization. The legislation has different timelines and requirements for different categories of organizations.

VideosThere are several video links provided here that you are also required to review (copy and paste the link into your internet search engine). . View each video and submit a statement include the video names, your name, the date you viewed each one to HR as proof that training was completed. This should be signed by your direct supervisor.
