INTRODUCTION

Accessibility Bar & Screen Reader is a plugin for Joomla! designed for those who want their site to

the highest levels of accessibility and readability of pages. Besides the classic features of "resizing"

of fonts and high contrast of the text (as required by law Stanca and specific WACAG 1-2) provides

innovative tools including:

Screen reader with Google API integration built in Joomla – supporting more than 40 languages,

selective high contrast that allows to perform the function of high contrast ONLY on slices of the

page,

magnifying glass,

extraction in a light box part of the contents with an adjustable magnification factor,

access key configurable by administrator according to users needs.

Screen Reader Accessibility & Bar is native to Joomla! 1.5 - 1.6 - 1.7 and 2.5 is ideal for sites that

are accessible, easy setup and pleasing graphics.

Born from the experience with another plugin developed in the field of accessibility has been

designed both to comply with the guidelines in this area (Requirement 12 so-called law "Tired,"

WCAG 1.0: 3.4) and also to offer an extremely comprehensive and unique.

INSTALLATION

The installation of the plugin is "easy" plug & play and includes:

enter into the administration control panel of Joomla!

click on the menu header of 'extensions' / 'install / uninstall' for Joomla 1.5 or 'extensions /

extension manager' on Joomla 2.5-1.6-1.7,

Click on 'Browse' and upload the zipped package frtools_15_v1.0.zip for Joomla! 1.5 or

frtools_25_v1.0.zip for Joomla! 1.6, 1.7, 2.5 downloaded from the site by 2 points,

If the installation is completed without errors, the plugin will display the message of success and

will require the publication (see below).

The plugin will automatically install it in all versions of Joomla and once activated it shows a

bar application containing the various controls. By default Joomla sets the publication of the

plugin as disabled, so please be careful when installing the plugin to go and publish it in the

configuration panel (Extensions-management plugin).

ACTIVATION WITH DOMAIN CODE

The plugin needs to be activated before you can use it using the domain license code you

obtained during purchasing. When you choose for how many domains you want to buy the

code it will generate a random code that you will receive in the order email, and that you will

access in your ‘Download my products’ area.

Once obtained the domain activation code, you have to insert it in the plugin configuration

field and press ‘Activate’ button as shown below, and you will gain plugin activation.

Moreover the plugin will show you the status of the domain code you purchased with the

following details:

Finally the ‘Plugin activated’ will show an enabled icon and the accessibility bar will be

visible in frontend site.

If you uninstall and install again the plugin on the same domain you will be able to use again

the same code with no increment on its activated domains.

Recurrent problems after installation

The problems you might encounter when installing the plugin are due to the unpredictable

implementations variety of templates.

Partial or total lack of font resizing

The plugin to resize fonts dynamically change the overall percentage of their size. This implies that

if the template in use assigns to html elements a fixed size this will overwrite the plugin global

body element font size. To resolve this problem you must remove the fixed font size specific classes.

Partial or total lack of the high contrast (CSS)

The plugin to change the backgrounds of the page must match CSS classes used by your template.

The Plugin has been developed on the standard Joomla template, this means that if the template

does NOT use the corresponding classes it will be necessary to modify the CSS file used by the plugin

to render the high contrast available at this path:

BACK END – PLUGIN SETTINGS

Per accedere all'amministrazione del plugin cliccare su estensioni – gestione plugin – System

Accessibility toolbar and font resizing.

Accessibility bar template changer → you can change bar template simply selecting from the

list.

Maximum font size magnfication % → sets the maximum size of the character changed from

frontend.

Minimum font size magnfication → sets the minimum size of the character changed from

frontend.

Default font-size → sets the default font-size for characters (on page load and reset recall).

High contrast CSS class name → sets the class to be assigned to body element to vary the

styles of the high contrast. By changing the CSS, you can then change the background of the

high contrast.

Accesskey → sets the bar buttons access keys called by keyboard

Default bar status → sets if on page load by default the bar is opened or closed. Users can

override this settings changing this preference by pressing the switcher button for their own

working session

Enable\Disable buttons → you can choose what buttons should appears on frontend bar. By

default all buttons and functionlity are enabled.

Zoomable elements list → You can put a list of items comma separated that will be

considered valid to be enlarged with a magnifying glass. By default the plugin enlarges all

images and all paragraphs of text (default: img, p). This field supports complex CSS3 selectors

for example: You can select only paragraphs of a specific class using the syntax img,

p.classname or some div elements of interest with img, p.classname, div.otherclassname. It is

advisable not to slow down the operation of the browser or hang it to avoid enter generic

selectors on pages containing many of them, for example a generic -div- selector.

Lens width → lens width in pixel

Lens height→ lens height in pixel

Magnifying ratio→ sets the default magnifying percentage for zoom, by default x2

Validation service → you can define a service validation of your choice, that will be

connected to the frontend button for all site pages

Scale factor for lightbox characters expressed in px → defines the magnification factor of

the characters for the feature of extraction of contents in a lightbox window.

Scale factor for lightbox images expressed in px→ defines the magnification factor of the

images for the feature of extraction of contents in a lightbox window.

Lightbox auto dimensions→ if the radio button is set to no the lightbox will have scroll bars if

the text exceeds the size of the lightbox, conversely, if set to yes lightbox is resized to fit the

dimensions of the contents.

Lightbox dimensions → sets the fixed dimensions for the lightbox

Audio volume screen reader → audio volume percentage for the screen reader, default

100%

Readable chunk lenght → sets the maximum chunk length read by screen reader for every

iteration between server requests. If you experiment some peformance problem you can

change this parameter, but normally it should remain untouched.

Read child elements → This parameter determines whether the reading should be done on

the clicked item only or also on other HTML child elements of clicked item if child nodes

containing valid text.
