Page 1 of 24 Access Your Cisco Smart Storage Remotely Via WebDAV WebDAV (Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning), is a set of extensions to the HTTP(S) protocol that allows a web server to appear as a standard network drive. With WebDAV support, the Cisco Smart Storage NAS user will be able to access the share folders via HTTP/HTTPS protocol remotely. WebDAV clients are native to Windows XP/Vista, Mac OS X, etc. You can simply mount the network drives (web folders) from one of these operating systems to one or several share folders on the NAS. A WebDAV server benefits from the HTTP infrastructure in the following ways: Able to use 256-bit AES SSL encryption Bypass firewalls and proxies Faster than Microsoft networking(SMB/CIFS) over VPN WebDAV Remote Topology

Access Your Cisco Smart Storage Remotely Via WebDAV

WebDAV (Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning), is a set of extensions to the HTTP(S)

protocol that allows a web server to appear as a standard network drive. With WebDAV support,

the Cisco Smart Storage NAS user will be able to access the share folders via HTTP/HTTPS

protocol remotely.

WebDAV clients are native to Windows XP/Vista, Mac OS X, etc. You can simply mount the

network drives (web folders) from one of these operating systems to one or several share folders

on the NAS. A WebDAV server benefits from the HTTP infrastructure in the following ways:

Able to use 256-bit AES SSL encryption

Bypass firewalls and proxies

Faster than Microsoft networking(SMB/CIFS) over VPN

Enable WebDAV on your Smart Storage

Network Services >> Web Server

1. Enable the Web Server and WebDAV support.

2. Set up WebDAV access rights for each share folder.

Choose Network Shares >Share Folders.

Click WebDAV Access Control in the Action Column.

Note that the WebDAV access right setting will be applied to all of the users who

have been granted access to this share folder via WebDAV. They will share the

same access right settings.

Accessing Smart Storage via Microsoft Windows XP

1. Right- click My Computer > Map Network Drive.

2. Click Sign up for online storage or connect to a network server.

3. Select Choose another network location.

4. Enter the URL of your NAS with the share folder name. Please note that you should put a

# at the end of the URL. Click Next.

Accessing Smart Storage via Microsoft Windows Vista

1. Before you begin, please review Microsoft Knowledge Base KB907306. This is a Web

Folders update for 32-bit Windows Vista.

2. Right click Computer > Map Network Drive.

3. Click Connect to a Web site that you can use to store your documents and pictures.

8. You can create the Web Folder on Windows Vista successfully. The network share

appears as a web folder in the Network Location section in Computer.

Accessing Smart Storage via Apple MAC OS X (10.6.x)

1. Open Finder > Conect to Server, and enter the URL of the share.

Format: http://<<IP_Address>>/Share_FolderName

3. Now you should be able to access the share folder through the HTTP/WebDAV protocol.

You can also find the mountpoint in the SHARED category in Finder and make it one

of the login items.

Accessing Smart Storage via Ubuntu Linux (9.10 Desktop)

1. Open Places > Connect to Server

2. Select WebDAV (HTTP) or Secure WebDAV (HTTPS) for the service type according to

your NAS settings. Enter your host information. Click “Connect” to initialize the connection.

3. Enter the password of the user name for authentication. Please make sure the user name

and its password has the WebDAV privilege to access this share folder.

4. The WebDAV connection has been established successfully. A linked folder will be

created on the desktop automatically.

Accessing Smart Storage via iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad

1. You will need an application which supports WebDAV client.

2. Open App Store on your device.

3. Search for WebDAV, you will see several applications which support WebDAV clients.

4. For this example, we will select DAV-E Free.

5. Configuring the application.

After installing the application, launch it on your device.

Enter the URL of your WebDAV host, username, and password.
