Healthcare Access• The Number one issue reported by Gallup Research in terms

of United States Healthcare is Access• People, whether due to economics or other circumstances, do

not have equal access to health care.• Access to healthcare is essential to maintaining good health;

without healthcare access, health levels begin to decline, and medical issues become exacerbated.

The Healthcare Gap

Where do people go for care?• In the absence of affordable healthcare, people often go

without needed primary care and preventative medical visits.• Conditions that could be treated preventatively lead to costly

medical care later.• Care is sought from Emergency Rooms, which cannot turn

people away due to inability to pay.

Affordable Care Act• The ACA was signed by President Obama in 2010, and upheld

by the Supreme Court in 2012.• It mandates health insurance coverage.• Despite the snafus with the website, millions have enrolled,

and the uninsured rate is down 5%, but it is still over 10% of the population.

• The ACA is creating a chronic state of under-insurance, especially among the 26-35 age set.

• Will this solve the access problem? Only time will tell, and the results of the 2016 election may not allow for time to tell.
