ACCESS for ELLs Sight Assessment

What is the purpose of ACCESS?
It monitors the annual language progress of ELs in K-12
It establishes when ELs have attained full language proficiency
It informs classroom instruction and assessment
It provides a valid and reliable data source for accountability and aids in decision making

Listening is timed. 25-45 minutes based on length of CD (group)
Reading is timed. 35-45 minutes (group)
Writing is timed. Up to 65 minutes (group)
Speaking is untimed. Plan on 15-20 minutes (individual)
Kindergartener is given individually
*Test administration time does not include time for convening students, taking attendance, distributing and collecting test materials, explaining test directions, or completing
practice items

Colorado Testing Window
All Colorado ACCESS for ELLs tests must be administered during the state’s testing window January 6 – February 7, 2014
Possible Testing Conflicts
January 13-31: Colorado Read Act testing (DRA2) Grades k-3
January 21-Feburary 31: Acuity Grades 3-5
February 5- March 14: CO-ALT Grades 3-10
General ACCESS Information
Secure test – must be locked at all times
Only the DAC may pick up/drop off materials
Paraprofessionals do not need online training (they cannot proctor the test). However, they may sign the nondisclosure agreement to help monitor students
Do not schedule more than one test session for a student in one day (Listening and Reading are the exception)
SACs and TAs must:
Maintain the security and standardization of the assessment
Do not leave materials unattended
Do not view, discuss, or reveal the contents of the test or student responses
Do not duplicate any portion of the test materials
Do not retain or discard test materials at the school
Ensure that students are not provided access to test questions prior to testing, or provided any coaching or assistance from TAs or other students, or do not engage in any form of cheating
Ensure security by prohibiting visitors to the testing environment

January 3, 2014 This is an optional opportunity on your teacher workday to
preview ACCESS materials before they arrive at your building
Come anytime between 8:00 – 12:00 to Administration Classroom 4
You must read through all test administration guides prior to administering ACCESS This can be done on January 3rd with Sarah and Ronda, or in your SAC’s
office before you begin assessing

• Log-in on the right side of the screen
• Click on “ACCESS for ELLs, Training Course & Quizzes”
• The green user-bar at the top of the page, helps you navigate the training modules and quizzes
• Utilize the two Test Administration Manuals (Grades 1-12, & Kindergarten) while taking the quizzes
•Once you have completed all applicable quizzes with a score of 80% or higher select “my quizzes” then “My Annual Quiz History” and send a hard copy or pdf. to Ronda Hanson
