2. Form of inspection applied to lots of items eitherbefore or after a process instead of during the process. Purpose is to decide whether a lot satisfies predetermined standards. Lots that satisfy these standards are passed or accepted and others rejected. Conditions: Large no. of items processed in a short time Cost consequences of passing defectives are low Destructive testing is required Fatigue & boredom caused by inspecting large noof items leads to inspection errors 3. Can be applied to both attribute and variable inspection. Sampling Plan- specify the lot size, sample size, no. of samples to be taken and acceptance/rejection criteria. Single sampling plan-one random sample drawn from each lot Every item in sample is examined and said to be good/defective. Lot is rejected if sample defectives>specified. 4. Double Sampling Plan
