High-Resolution Audio is created by digitising an original analogue audio source that is

1-WIRE

A convenient, high-speed method to connect your digital music player

to your head unit. You can also charge your external device with this

connection.

ADVANCED AUDIO CODING (AAC)

AAC is a standardised compression method for digital audio. AAC

achieves better sound quality with smaller file sizes compared to the

MP3 format at the same bit rate. AAC is used as the standard audio

format for many popular entertainment devices including the Sony

PlayStation® 3.

ADVANCED SOUND ENGINE

Using a combination of EQ7, CSO, LPF/HPF, Intelligent Time Alignment

and Rear Bass Enhancer, the Advanced Sound Engine produces an

optimum listening environment based on the user’s preferences.

ANTI-SHOCK PROTECTION

Head units equipped with anti-shock protection ensure you enjoy

smooth and uninterrupted music playback from your CD, even during

bumpy rides. The better the anti-shock protection, the more bumps and

knocks it can take without skipping.

APP REMOTE v2.0

App Remote is an incredible application which safely connects Sony Car

Audio and your Smartphone with two-way source control. The latest

version 2 ensures even safer operability by introducing voice recognition,

expanded text-read-out functions and more.

AUTOMATIC LEVEL OPTIMISER

Automatic Level Optimiser analyses each track’s playback levels and

adjusts output level to optimise transitions between tracks and sources.

BLACK OUT MODE

While in Black Out Mode, all the illuminations on the head unit are turned

off even when you are listening to music. This is to prevent the driver

from being distracted when driving. Just a touch of any button on the

face panel and the illumination will be turned on again.

BLUETOOTH®

Bluetooth® is a popular wireless communication standard designed to

provide a means for sharing information between, mobile devices and

other peripherals via a secure short-range wireless connection.

BEST TUNING MEMORY (BTM)

BTM automatically selects and stores stations with the strongest signals

in order of frequency.

CLEARAUDIO+

Clear Audio+ reproduces sound by optimising digital signals with Sony

recommended sound settings for in-car listening. An easy single touch

of settings makes it possible to reproduce incredibly vibrant sound with

more powerful bass and crisp highs.

DIGITAL CLARITY TUNER

An FM/AM tuner that enhances sound quality and expands stereo area

for better signal pick up.

DM+

Digital Music Plus (DM+) improves the sound quality of digitally

compressed sound, such as MP3 files.

DSD

DSD is a recording format originally designed for Super Audio CDs,

which reproduces audio waveforms at much higher resolution than

conventional audio codecs.

DSEE

Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE) enhances the sound quality of

compressed audio files by restoring high-range sound removed by the

compression process.

DYNAMIC COLOUR ILLUMINATOR

Features ever-changing coloured lights in up to 35,000 colour

combinations and multiple variable patterns. You can also choose to

have the head unit change colours to the beat of your music with the

Sound Synchronisation feature.

DYNAMIC REALITY AMP 2

Incorporates a fully symmetrical differential input circuit, boasting 47%

lower internal resistance compared with conventional products for

excellent signal reproduction, better clarity and increased output power.

EQ3 3-BAND EQUALISER

The EQ3 graphic equaliser features 7 preset modes — XplodTM, Vocal,

Club, Jazz, New Age, Rock, and Custom. Custom mode allows you to

adjust the 3 frequency bands according to your music preferences.

This newly improved EQ concept allows for easy customisation of music

to your preference.


The EQ5 graphic equaliser features 7 preset modes — XplodTM, Vocal,

Club, Jazz, New Age, Rock, and Custom. Custom mode allows you to

adjust the 5 frequency bands according to your music preferences.


EQ7 offers 7 equaliser options, and 7 preset modes (XplodTM, Vocal,

Edge, Cruise, Space, Gravity, and Custom) to create the perfect listening

environment for your music. Custom mode lets you adjust music to fit

your personal listening preference.

EQ10 10-BAND DIGITAL EQUALISER

10-band Digital Equaliser allows you to enjoy a greater degree of

control over your music settings. This includes a 32Hz bass frequency

adjustment and up to 10 preset curves that deliver ideal frequency

characteristics for a range of music styles.

FLAC

FLAC stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec, an audio format similar to

MP3, but lossless, meaning that audio is compressed in FLAC without

any loss in quality.

FRONT DETACHABLE PANEL

With the detachable panel, you can deter theft of your head unit by

removing the face panel when you leave the car and slotting it back on

when you return.

FRONT AUX-IN

You can plug in any one of the portable audio players available in the

market with the universal 3.5mm mini pin input on the head unit.

HIGH PASS AND LOW PASS FILTER

High Pass Filters only permit high frequencies to pass through while

suppressing the lower frequencies — excellent for keeping bass low. Low

Pass Filters only allow the passage of low frequencies.

HI RESOLUTION AUDIO

High-Resolution Audio is created by digitising an original analogue

audio source that is recorded at a much higher sampling and bit rate

than CDs. The most commonly used specifications are 24bit/96kHz

and 24bit/192kHz. This larger amount of recorded data results in

music that is closer to the original analogue recording, giving you

subtle details, nuances, and clarity of sound like the artist intended.

ID3TAG

An ID3Tag is a 128-byte data file that is embedded at the end of

an MP3. It contains information about the track like artist name,

song title, genre, and comments, allowing you to file your MP3s

efficiently.

INTELLIGENT TIME ALIGNMENT

In-car sound is optimised with Intelligent Time Alignment. Two

settings are available: a ‘Simple’ position setting which can be

applied to a wide range of car types for beginners and users who

are unfamiliar with manual tuning, and a ‘Smart’ position for those

who have experience in this area and are comfortable with tinkering

with their sound settings.

MEGA BASS

Mega Bass overcomes driving noise and reproduces clear punchy

sound at any volume level that even comes with beat-pulsing

illumination.

MIRRORLINK™

MirrorLink™ allows a smartphone’s display to be viewed on an

automobile’s dashboard, and lets users control their smartphone

through their car’s steering wheel controls, dashboard buttons, and

navigation screen.

MP3

MP3 files are supported on our range of head units. Now you can

enjoy MP3 tunes converted from your CD or purchased online.

MSC

Mass Storage Class (MSC) devices function like USB memory when

connected with a compatible Sony USB input.

MTP

Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) allows smartphones to transfer

music and various files to the connected device while keeping the

smartphone’s other functions active.

MULTI-FORMAT PLAYBACK

Sony receivers offer a wide selection of playback options — CD, CD-

PANDOR A

Pandora® is the leading internet radio service, giving people music

they love anytime, anywhere, through personalised radio stations.

PHONEBOOK ACCESS PROFILE

Access your smartphone’s contact list directly from the head unit

through Bluetooth® connection. Contacts are automatically listed

alphabetically for easy searching.

PRE OUT

A pre-out is a 2-volt line-level output with no power amplification.

A high voltage pre-out gives a 5-volt signal, which realises clearer

sound with less distortion when the head unit is connected to a

power amplifier.

QUICK-BROWZER

The Quick-BrowZer function was designed for ultimate convenience

by giving you enhanced navigation options on your head unit. You

can browse through your entire song collection with one button,

select and play tracks with the second button, and go back to

browsing mode with the third.

RBE

Rear Bass Enhancer (RBE) places a low-pass filter on the rear

speaker to allow the rear speaker to act as a subwoofer.

RDS

Radio Data System (RDS) displays radio broadcast information such

as artist and track information when listening to compatible AM/

FM stations.

SENSME™ CHANNELS/SENSME™ MOOD

SensMe™ analyses and organises your music library to let you

select the type of songs you want to listen to based on genre (e.g.

Mellow, Lounge, Dance, etc.) or from a two-axis mood map.

SIRI® EYES FREE

Siri® Eyes Free allows you to ask Apple’s Siri® feature to make calls,

select and play music, hear and compose text messages, use

maps and get directions, read your notifications, find calendar

information, add reminders, and more. To minimise distractions,

your iOS device’s screen won’t light up.

SONGPAL™

Songpal™ is a mobile app for wireless audio devices that allows you

to browse and play audio content from your smartphone using a

Bluetooth® connection or a Wi-Fi® connection. Songpal™ version

2.1 has been upgraded for voice control over basic functions of head

STEERING REMOTE INPUT READY

Configurable Steering Wheel Remote Input covers general

command protocol that means you don’t need an adaptor for signal

conversion between your car steering wheel and Sony head unit.

USB HIGH CHARGE 1.5A

1.5A High Current Battery Charge allows you to charge high current

draw devices like smartphones and tablets directly from the USB

High Charge port.

SUBWOOFER DIRECT CONNECTION

The Subwoofer Direct Connection feature allows a user to directly

connect a 4-ohm or 8-ohm subwoofer to a rear audio channel

without having to use an external amplifier.

USB

The full-speed USB function enables you to download and organise

WAV

Waveform Audio File Format (WAV) is a Microsoft and IBM audio file

format standard for storing an audio bitstream.

WMA

Windows Media Audio (WMA) is an audio data compression

technology developed by Microsoft. It is a proprietary technology

that forms part of the Windows Media framework.

ZAPPIN™

Zappin™ allows you to browse your entire music library by playing

short extracts of each song. If you hear a song you want to listen

to, press the button to play it. This safe music browsing method

is useful for drivers as it doesn’t require them to look down at the

head unit.

ACTIVE THERMAL CONTROL

Active Thermal Control regulates an amplifiers’ operating

temperature for stable, long-term playback at high volume levels.

BI-AMP

Bi-amping is the practice of using two audio amplifier channels to

power a loudspeaker with multiple drivers.

CEA COMPLIANT

This logo indicates that a product has been tested according

to Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) standards based on

three factors: primary power distribution in watts, total harmonic

distortion plus noise, and Signal-to-Noise ratio.

CLASS-D

Class-D Amplifiers distribute power with the use of output

transistors as switches. These transistors automatically turn

off or on when too much or little voltage runs through them. By

effectively managing and controlling the flow of power, Class-D

Amplifiers deliver higher power output with reduced current and

less heat dissipation, ensuring outstanding audio performance.

DIMPLED CONE WOOFER

The Dimpled Cone Woofer is constructed with lightweight material

that offers optimised dimple alignment to maintain rigidity and

produce high SPL Bass.

GOLD PLATED TERMINALS

With the use of gold plating, car owners can enjoy cleaner signal

transfers and superior electrical connections without having to

worry about corrosion.

HIGHLY ORIENTED POLYOLEFINE (H.O.P.) DIAPHRAGM

A much broader playback frequency bandwidth and improved

transition characteristics can be achieved with the H.O.P. Diaphragm

— which means clearer, distortion-free sound is reproduced.

H.O.P. CONE DESIGN

Sony Highly Oriented Polyolefine (H.O.P.) speakers are designed

with a reinforced diaphragm capable of lengthening piston motion

to improve the movement of signals between subwoofers and

tweeters for superior sound reproduction.

MAGNETIC FLUID SPEAKER

The Magnetic Fluid Speaker uses ferrofluid to greatly reduce

distortion at high volume, so even smaller speakers are capable of

delivering powerful sound.

MICA REINFORCED CELLULAR GLASS FIBRE

MRC is a revolutionary material used in woofer cones that offers

higher rigidity with no deformation. This enables the cone to

produce tighter, better sounding bass.

MOSFET

Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor (MOSFET) offers

higher switching speeds than bipolar transistors, allowing for faster

response with better sound reproduction linearity and efficiency.

MRC HONEYCOMB WOOFER
