Tape Drive Fibre Switch Options for Connecting C07 to Tape Drives
0, 1 or 2 switches per 3592-C07 Zero switches means direct connection to tape drives Switches can be 4Gb or 8Gb. Intermix is not allowed. 2Gb switches are not supported
FC4897 on 3952-F05 reinstalls an existing 4Gb switch
FC4875 on 3952-F05 supplies one new 8Gb fibre switch
Mounting Hardware for 3952-F05 Frame FC3518 on 3952-F05 provides mounting hardware for one fibre switch FC3519 on 3952-F05 provides mounting hardware for second fibre switch
Mounting Hardware for 3584 Frame FC9816 on 3952-F05 specifies fibre switches are mounted out-bound of the
3952-F05 frame. FC4876, 4877, 4878, and 4897 on the 3584 frame are used to provide
mounting hardware, reinstallation of 4Gb or 8Gb switches, and adjacent frame cables.

Tape Drive Fibre Switch Location Up to 4 drives can be direct connected to the 3592-C07.
Two drives can be direct attached if redundant paths are desired.
Drive fibre switches are typically mounted in the 3952-F05 frame. Requires one or two cables per drive between 3952-F05 and 3584 frame.
Drive fibre switches can also be mounted in a 3584 frame. One 3584 frame is needed per set of switches for a single 3592-C07. This means there may or may not be enough frames to house all the switches. Using the 3584 frames for the switches does reduce the cabling between the 3952-
F05 and the 3584 frame. Only 4 fibre cables per CU between 3952-F05 frame and 3584 frame.

3592-C06 Tape Control Unit Enhancements
Support for TS1140 Tape Drive in TS3500 and rack mount (FICON only) SNMP Audit Logging for Service Interface.
The 3592-C06 cannot coexist in the same logical library as 3592-C07 controllers. Using the same logical library would cause two library managers (3953-
L05 and 3592-C07 integrated LM) to try and control the library partition. C06 and C07 can coexist in the same physical library.
3953-L05 is withdrawn from marketing as of September 23rd, 2011 thus no more 3953-F05 Base Frames

Host Software Support zOS
There is no additional software maintenance for the Tape Controller Model C07. Software support for the 3592-E07 is available on z/OS V1R11 and above with the appropriate
PTFs. Refer to enabling APAR OA33947. Also refer to the 3592 PSP bucket for the software maintenance that is required for the 3592 drives
being used. For support of the 3592 Model E07 on z/OS V1R10, an RPQ must be requested. Purchase of the
z/OS Lifecycle Extension will be required for z/OS V1R10 support of the 3592-E07.
z/VSE Software support for the 3592-E07 is planned for a later VSE release.
z/VM There is no additional software maintenance for the Tape Controller Model C07. Support for the 3592-E07 is provided on z/VM 5.4.0 and higher with CP APAR VM64979 and its
prerequisite service. In addition, tape library support for these drives is provided by DFSMS/VM FL221 with RMS APAR
VM65005 and its prerequisite service.
z/TPF Software support for the 3592-E06 and the E07 is not currently available in z/TPF. Support is available for the 3592-C07 and the 3592-E05 drive.
Linux on System z Software support is available with the following Linux distributions and above:
– SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 (SLES 9)– Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4
TS1140 drive is supported by zLinux with both the 3592-C06 and the 3592-C07

Encryption Support Either Tivoli Key Lifecycle Manager (TKLM) or IBM Security Key Lifecycle
Manager (ISKLM) is required for encryption support of 3592-E07 drives.
Support is provided for both In-Band and Out-of-Band encryption.
Out-of-Band uses dual ethernet paths provided by standard quad-ethernet card and second quad-ethernet card (FC5597).
FC5597 is a mandatory feature code. Second card also provides redundant path for internal C07 network.
Encryption policy defined by host, the same as when using the 3592-C06.

TS1140 Tape Drive Support Supported on both C06 and C07 controllers.
Must be configured as Encryption Enabled using System Managed Encryption when connecting to controllers.
Up to 16 drives can be attached to each controller.
Will not support Gen 1 media (JA, JJ, JW, JR) at initial GA. Since drive models cannot be intermixed, customers with only Gen 1 media who wish
to go to TS1140 drives must purchase a second controller and new media (JB, JC, JK, JX, JY), and migrate their data via the host.
If and when Gen 1 media is supported, customers can replace their current drives with TS1140 drives.
Update! JA, JJ, JW, and JR media now supported in read only mode!

Library Manager Integration
Old Configuration Required a separate server for library management. Library command/response flow:
– Host > CU > LM > CU > Drive > Library > Drive > CU > LM > CU > Host
Only 1 CU could be in the 3953 base frame to make room for the LM. A second 3953-F05 frame must be purchased to add a second CU for
redundancy/performance.
New Configuration Library management is integrated in the C07 Library command/response flow:
– Host > CU > Drive > Library > Drive > CU > Host
First 4 CUs can be installed in a single 3952-F05 frame.

LM Integration (Components) LIE (Library Integration and Emulation)
Receives PLF (Perform Library Function) commands from the host and converts them to iRMM commands.
Monitors the library and reports any problems/changes.
iRMM Communicates to the TS3500 library devices. Stores category information in DB2. Gathers statistics.
Monitoring Monitors health of Primary/Standby CUs. Initiates failover if necessary.

LM Integration (Implementation)
First two CUs (Internal IP Addresses of 192.168.251.10 and .20) in a logical library: Must have FC 4444
– Adds 2 hard drives for the database to manage volume information
Must have control path drives (SMC devices). Only one runs iRMM/DB2 at any given moment. (Primary/Standby) Library function runs on either controller and switches over as required. Library function continues when one CU needs service or a code upgrade. iRMM/DB2 automatically switch to the Standby CU if the Primary fails. Alias IP address 192.168.251.1 follows Primary CU. Web server follows Primary CU, and an alias IP address can be configured for
customer convenience.
All CUs (.10 - .160) in a logical library: Communicate to drives through fibre channel for data communication. Communicate to iRMM on the Primary CU for library communication. May connect directly to the customer network for out-of-band encryption.

Configuration: Encryption Key Server Addresses
The encryption key server assists encryption-enabled tape drives in generating, protecting, storing, and maintaining
encryption keys that are used to encrypt information being written to tape media (tape and cartridge formats).
These settings are used to configure 3592-C07 connections to an encryption key server. The first
address is referred to as the primary and the second as the secondary.
