Why ACCA?

ACCA qualification is designed to provide the accounting knowledge, skills and professional values which will deliver finance professionals who are capable of building successful careers across all sectors.

In order to qualify as an ACCA member, you will need to complete:• 14 exams (nine of which are eligible for exemption)• Relevant practical experience, with a minimum of three years• A Professional Ethics module.

Entry requirementsACCA offers various entry points on to the Qualification,depending on your previous academic qualifications.

• Minimum entry requirementsTwo A Levels and three GCSEs or equivalent in five separatesubjects, including English and Mathematics.

• Mature Student Entry Route (MSER)Normally over age 21 and no academic qualifications required.Students registered under this route must pass the equivalent of Papers F2, Management Accounting and F3, Financial Accounting within two years before further progression to the ACCA exams is permitted.

• Graduate-entry routeRelevant degree holders from ACCA-accredited institutions maybe exempted from all nine exams within the Fundamentals leveland register directly at the Professional level. Degrees with some relevance may also qualify for exemptions.

• Access to ACCA via CAT qualificationNo academic qualifications required. Sit Certified AccountingTechnician (CAT) qualification first and then transfer to the Skills module of the ACCA Qualification by claiming exemption from the first three papers in the Knowledge module.

Dave O’DonoghueFCCA, MSc, DipIFR

Dave is the Joint Head of the School ofProfessional Accountancy at IndependentColleges. He was previously the CourseDirector of Professional Accountancy atGriffith College. He has lectured on ACCAauditing and financial accounting subjectssince 1997.

Liam DoranFCCA, FCPA, MBS (Finance)

Liam is the Joint Head of the School ofProfessional Accountancy at Independent Colleges. He was previously a senior lecturer with Griffith College specialising in the areas of Financial Accounting and Financial Management for ACCA, CPA, CIMA and ACA. He is an immensely confident and popular lecturer.

Michael BristowBSc, (Mgmt), Grad Dip, ACCA

Michael is a Senior Lecturer in the area of Management Accounting and Performance Management. He has extensive experience in the area of Management Accounting. He has lectured on both ACCA and CPA courses and worked in both senior Management Accounting and Analyst roles. Michael is an ACCA qualified lecturer and received a number of placings during the course of his own examinations including a remarkable1st in the world placing on paper 3.3,Performance Management.

Sandra GleesonFCCA, Dip IFRS, IATI

Sandra is a Senior Lecturer withIndependent Colleges and specialisesin Financial Accounting and ManagementAccounting. She has lectured to ACCA,CPA, IATI, CIMA and ACA students for thepast six years. Sandra has an exam focusedteaching approach and an ability to simplifythe more difficult areas of the subject.

Shane O’GradyBSc

Shane is a full-time Senior Lecturer withIndependent Colleges in the areas of Ethics,Corporate Governance and Strategy. Prior to joining Independent Colleges, Shane was a member of the Enterprise Risk Services team in Deloitte. Shane has lectured on ACA, ACCA, CPA and IATI courses for the past number of years and he has developed an outstanding reputation due in no small part to his approachability and focus on examinations.

Michael has been lecturing accountancystudents since 1998 on ACCA and otheraccounting course. Michael has also lectured for state bodies and other training firms. He has acted in positions of financial controller and director in retail, construction and property development companies since 1996.

Mel KilkennyBComm FCA AITI

Mel has been lecturing ACCA taxationsubjects since 1992. Students find Melvery exam focused, approachable andentertaining. Mel is the author of textbooksand revision kits for P6 and F6 (KilkennyTax Publications); these books are used bymany colleges throughout the country. Hespent a number of years as examiner for theInstitute of Chartered Accountants in Irelandand also for the Irish Taxation Institute.

Michelle HouricanFCCA, MSc

Michelle is a daytime lecturer with Independent Colleges specialising in Business Strategy Financial Management. Michelle has worked with a diverse range of clients from multi-national firms to the public sector. She has experience in the areas of Strategic Planing and Implementation, Business Process, Re-Design, Change Management and IT. She is a member of the ACCA Leinster Network and has presented CPD lecturers. She has had the privilege of presenting an intensive ACCA revision course to final year students in three locations in China.

Gary FitzgeraldBarrister at Law, BA

Gary has been lecturing on the F4 coursesince the introduction of the new syllabus inDecember 2007. He is a practising barristerspecialising in Planning and EnvironmentalLaw. He also lectures Contract Law and EULaw to law students. His practical experience,confident lecturing style and exam focusedclasses make him very successful at explaininglegal concepts to non-law students. Garyis a graduate of University College Cork andKing’s Inns, winning the Antonia O’Callaghanaward for Oratory and Constitutional Law.

Colm FoleyB.Comm, ACA

Colm held a number of positions in practiceand industry before joining IndependentColleges.

In addition to lecturing to ACCA students,Colm also lectures at undergraduate levelon Financial Accounting, ManagementAccounting and Auditing.

Patrick is a qualified ACCA accountant with 10 years experience in a demanding financial services environment. His expertise is in financial analysis and planning, financial reporting, business strategy, computer programming, systems design and improvement, international project management and client relationship management.

Graham CrowleyBSc, ACMA

Graham currently works as a ManagementAccountant with the Musgrave Group. He hasheld a number of Management Accounting,Financial Accounting and Financial Analysisroles within Musgrave. Prior to joiningMusgrave he worked as an Analyst withFidelity Investments in Boston, USA. Grahamis a CIMA qualified Accountant and receiveda number of placing during the course of hisown exams including two 1st places, two2nd places and three 3rd places in Ireland.

Patrick MulcahyBA. MAcc, ACA, AITI

Patrick is a part-time lecturer with Independent Colleges in the area of Taxation and Financial Reporting for ACCA and CPA. Patrick trained in taxation in KPMG and has also worked in industry. Patrick brings a practical exam focused approach to the classroom.
