The ACC has won four combined football and MBB national titles over the last ve years, twice as many as any other conference. Four ACC teams have won national championships this academic year: Notre Dame Women’s Basketball, Notre Dame Fencing, Wake Forest Men’s Tennis, and Florida State Softball. In addition, ACC student-athletes have won 14 individual national titles. In the most recent update of the Directors’ Cup standings, six ACC teams rank in the top 20, the most from any confer- ence: No. 9 Duke, No. 10 Florida State, No. 11 NC State, No. 14 Virginia, No. 17 North Carolina, and No. 18 Notre Dame. ACC Academic Success The ACC leads the way among Football Bowl Subdivi- sion conferences in the “Best Colleges” rankings released by U.S. News & World Report. The ACC placed eight institutions among the top 50 – three more than any peer conference. With an average rank of 54.2, the ACC has led the FBS conferences in each of the last 11 years. ACC Coaches Florida State’s win over Clemson in May was the 1,976th career victory for Mike Martin, passing the late Augie Garrido for the most wins in NCAA history. Martin now has 1,987 victories. Three ACC teams rank in the top ve nationally for most all-time tournament appearances: No. 2 Florida State (56), No. 3 Miami (45), and No. 5 Clemson (43). National Awards Seventeen ACC players have earned a combined 41 All-America honors from ABCA, Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, D1Baseball, NCBWA, and Perfect Game. Fifteen ACC freshman have earned a combined 19 Freshman All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball, Perfect Game, and NCBWA. ACC players won NCBWA National Player of the Month in three of the four months during the 2018 season, with NC State’s Brett Kinneman winning for February, Clemson’s Seth Beer for March, and Florida State’s Cal Raleigh for May. Additionally, Georgia Tech’s Connor Thomas was named National Pitcher of the Month for April. Georgia Tech junior Joey Bart received the Johnny Bench Award, which goes annually to the top catcher in college baseball. Bart, who was just the third Yellow Jacket catcher to be tabbed a nalist for the national award joining Matt Wieters (2007) and Zane Evans (2013) earlier this sea- son, became the rst-ever Tech catcher to win the prestigious collegiate award. Major League Baseball Draft The 75 ACC players selected in the 2018 MLB Draft is tied for the most in conference history and the second straight year with that many. At least one ACC player has been picked in the rst round for 27 straight years. All 14 ACC programs had at least one player drafted. North Carolina led the ACC with 10 players selected, followed by Louisville with eight and Clemson, Duke, and Florida State with seven.
