SUPW- Victory Day Soft board Competition:
The Victory Day Soft board competition took place in the Primary section from 11th to 15
th December 2016. The students
of grade-3 & 4 were divided into four groups according to their houses. It was observed by the students as part of Socially
Useful Productive Work (SUPW) and the topic was selected as the "Victory Day" of Bangladesh. House Ruby won the
first position followed by Emerald, Sapphire and Topaz attaining second, third and fourth position accordingly.
Computer Science FUNWEEK: Computer Science FUNWEEK was held from 18
th to 22
nd December, 2016 in Junior school. It was a wonderful
experience for the students of Grade 1 to 4. They enjoyed thoroughly playing games and watching movies during their
C.Sc. classes. A gaming competition between houses was arranged for the grade-3&4 students and grade-1&2 enjoyed
playing different games. House Sapphire won the 1st position in the games competition. Ruby, Emerald and Topaz have
won the 2nd
, 3rd
and 4th position accordingly. All the students also watched ‘Moana’ which was an age-appropriate and
extremely fun movie.
Activity on Taste: (KG)
All the students of KG participated in a specialized activity on taste.
The students discovered that we use our senses to learn about the
world around us. They learned that together with the tongue, mouth
and nose, which send messages to the brain, we are able to taste food
and we have taste buds that help us taste different types of food
sweet, sour, salty, bitter etc. Teachers brought honey, lemon, coffee,
bitter gourd, chilli, sugar etc to conduct the activity and all the
learners had a new experience.
Activity on Exploring Senses: The students of Nursery along with their teachers conducted experiments on the concepts of
‘hot and cold’ and ‘wet and dry’. They had made human figure with paper cut out shapes,
created a snowman and an island using coloured paper as projects. Children also coloured their
favourite juice, various types of winter clothing and fruits as a part of their colouring activity.
Knowing Fruits and Vegetables: The students of Pre KG had an elaborate discussion on fruits and vegetables and were asked to
bring different kinds of fruits or vegetables as a part of their snack, which also promoted the idea of healthy eating. They
also learned about seasonal fruits and vegetables and their benefits.
Knowing Plants: The students of Pre KG gathered detailed information about the parts of plants, how
the plants make their own food, why plants are so important in our lives and how to
take care of plants. The concept was explained with the help of practical
demonstration of a real plant, visual aids, pictures and informative worksheets.
Knowing Animal World: The general concept of animals was discussed thoroughly in all the classes of KG.
The nature, characteristics, food habit and habitat of the pet and wild animals were
explained with educational videos, interactive discussion and images. Later on we
discussed the facts about farm animals.
Making Hot Chocolate: The students of KG had a blast on the last day before the winter vacation making hot
chocolate! Through this activity they could learn life skills like being independent
and making hot chocolate on their own. They learnt that making hot chocolate is a
satisfying way to keep them warm in winter. Moreover, teachers could incorporate a
healthy food habit in the children. Children enthusiastically participated in this
activity and enjoyed to the fullest.
Preparing New Year’s card: Pre KG & KG students prepared New Year’s greeting cards for their parents.
Teachers provided them with paper and glue and helped them to make the cards in
the classrooms. The children exhibited their creative knack and made beautiful
cards. All of them went home happily with the card, on the last day before the winter
break.
Craft Activity: The students of Nursery learned to make kites and lamps with colourful papers.
Role Play Activity: The students of Nursery participated in role play from “The three little kitten”
rhyme.
Environmental Experiment: The students of Nursery traced the shape of a leaf by using dry leaves. They also
experienced the taste of lemon.
Life Skills Based Activity: The students learned climbing up the ladder and getting down as a life skill
based activity.
Co- curricular Activities : Primary
Pitha Utshob: DPS STS Junior School celebrated the Pitha Utshob on 1
st December, 2016 with sheer joy and enthusiasm. It took place
in the Junior school cafeteria. All sections of Grade 4 were the organizers under the supervision of Bangla Department.
The students offered many delicious pithas and shared the joy with everyone. The Head of Junior School, Ms. Sumona
Karim and the Head of Primary Section, Ms. Juliet Gomes and the Head of the Pre Primary Section, Ms. Dushani
Rajaratnam attended this fun event.
Collaborative Art of Paintings: On the 16
th and 17
th of January, 2017, Junior School organised the ‘Collaborative Art of Paintings’ festival. It was a day
of colours and vibrancy where 300 students of grade 3 &4 put forth their artistic skills on canvas. This was the first time
that an event of such magnitude consisting 300 students painting on canvas took place in school. It was organised for the
students of grade 3&4. Head of Junior School Ms. Sumona Karim, Head of Primary Ms. Juliet Gomes & Head of Art
Department, Senior School, Mr. Nasiruddin attended the event. The students displayed great zeal and engulfed in
iridescence presented beautiful designs of nature, landscapes and many more. It was a fun filled event with the objective
to bring out the student's inner artist.
Winter Fete: On the 3rd of December, 2016, the ‘Winter Fete’ took place in the Senior campus. It was hosted by all the teachers of
Junior School. The Pre-Primary teachers assisted the Primary teachers with the decorations, overall assistance and
supervision. The parents and family members were invited to enjoy this joyous occasion. There were many game stalls
such as Tailing the Donkey, Lucky Bucket, Aiming the Bucket, Naming the doll, Bottles Down and Ring the Bottle etc.
The face painting, song counter, trampoline, and ferris wheel were the prime attractions. Different items were also sold in
the food counters. Our honourable Principal, Mr Harsh Wal, and respected Vice Principal, Ms. Madhu Wal, were present
throughout the whole day cheering the teachers. All in all, it was a very successful event.
Inter House Basketball Tournament: Junior school Inter House Basketball Tournament was held on the 11
th and 12
th of December, 2016 in the Junior campus.
Students of Grade 3 and 4 participated in the tournament. They were divided among 4 Houses – Ruby, Topaz, Sapphire
and Emerald. The whole tournament was held under the supervision of the Sports Department. House Ruby was the
champion of the boys’ team and house Emerald was the champion of the girls’ team for grade-3. House Emerald was the
undefeated champion among both boys’ and girls’ teams for grade-4. The students enjoyed the whole tournament
thoroughly and gleefully cheered for their teams.
Victory Day Art Competition: The Victory Day Art competition was held on 12
th and 14
th December, 2016, at Junior School. All the students from
grade 1-4 participated in this competition with great enthusiasm and full spirit. They showed their respect and love for the
nation and reminded us of the supreme sacrifice of our freedom fighters who will ever shine in our hearts. The students
exhibited amazing artwork and paintings.
Victory Day Celebration: The triumphant ‘Victory Day’ was celebrated in full swing on 15
th December, 2016, at the auditorium of Junior School.
Our Honourable Principal, Harsh Wal and Vice Principal, Madhu Wal, hoisted the national flag and DPS flag in presence
of grade 3&4 students. The talented students of Grades 1-4 delivered a wonderful presentation. The occasion was
graciously attended by the Head of Junior School, Ms. Sumona Karim, the Head of Primary Section, Ms. Juliet G Gomes
and all the teachers of Primary Section. Following the auspicious recitation and translation of Surah Fatiha, many
magnificent patriotic songs and dance performances were put together by the students of primary section. Everyone was
moved by the heart melting patriotic presentations. While concluding, the whole auditorium sang the National Anthem in
a joint chorus that filled the room.
Inter-House Long Distance Race: On Saturday, 17
thof December, 2016, DPS STS Junior School organised an Inter-House Long Distance Race of 1.5 km at
the Senior School Campus. The participants were the students of Grades- 1-4 and the event was gracefully attended by all
the teachers of Pre-Primary and Primary Section, the Head of Primary Section, Ms. Juliet Gomes and the Head of Junior
School, Ms. Sumona Karim. The chief guests of the event were the Honourable Principal, Mr.Harsh Wal, Vice Principal,
Ms.Madhu Wal and the CEO of STS Group, who handed over medals to all the winners.
Grade-4 Movie Time: On the last day before the winter break, Thursday, 22
nd of December, 2016, the children of grade-4 watched a fantastic
animation movie ‘Kubo and the two strings’ in the main hall of the Junior School campus. It was a brilliant movie about a
one-eyed boy, Kubo and his adventurous journey. The students had a great time on the last day before winter break. The
movie was a part of the Fun Week.
Junior Boys’ Inter House Cricket Tournament: The Junior Boys’ Inter House Cricket Tournament was held on the 11
th and 12
th of January, 2017 in the Junior school
campus. Students of Grade 3 and 4 participated in the tournament. They were divided among 4 Houses – Ruby, Topaz,
Sapphire and Emerald. From grade-3 house Ruby stood unshaken as the champion and from grade-4 house Topaz stole
the championship and won the match.
Winter Cultural Programme: The 'Winter Cultural Programme' of DPS STS School for Grade 1 and 2 took place on Wednesday 25th January, 2017 in
the Junior School Auditorium. Children sang beautiful chorus songs and performed a stunning group dance. The teachers,
Head of Primary and Head of Junior School were present there and enjoyed the programme. The programme has been an
enjoyable event for Grade 1 and 2 children and all the teachers.
Pre Primary: Winter Cultural Show:
The Pre Primary section of DPS STS School organised a ‘Winter Cultural Show’ on 21st of December, 2016 at the
auditorium of the Senior campus. Parents of the students were invited to watch their performances. The show started with
action songs performed by the students of Nursery. All four sections of Playgroup participated in the PomPom act as the
showstoppers. The second segment of the show was presented by the children of KG and PreKG. The programme began
with the recitation of the Surah. The children dressed as clowns to ease everyone with a comic relief in between each
event. The performers staged English songs, Bengali songs and dance pieces with great enthusiasm. Santa appeared at the
end of the show with bags of candies and to spread the Spirit of Christmas among the young buds.
Christmas and Winter Decoration: The PG students made a Christmas tree on the door of their classroom
and also decorated the soft board with the theme of winter.
Victory Day and Christmas Celebration: Victory day was celebrated on 15
th December by the students of KG
and Pre KG with sheer enthusiasm and passion. Teachers discussed the
history of our Liberation War and its influence in our life with the
students. The children of KG made colourful hats based on the victory
day theme.
The Pre KG children learned the facts about our Liberation War and
Victory Day through detailed discussion, stories and videos. They
made head gears with the flag of Bangladesh on it and also made a
paper replica of our Smriti Shoudho. The significance of Christmas was
explained for better understanding and the children decorated their
classroom and soft boards with colourful decorative items such as 3-D
Christmas trees, pictures etc.
Plantation: All the students of KG participated in an activity on plants with great enthusiasm and excitement. They went to the
outdoor area with mustard seeds and planted those by themselves, following the steps that they had been taught
beforehand. In addition, they also learned about the requirements for plants to grow. They observed the gradual
development of a plant and had a clear idea about plantation and their importance in our lives.
Special Achievements :
The students of Primary section participated in the ‘Sheikh Russel Memorial Chess Championship-2016’ and won
certificates from the Sheikh Russel Jatio Shishu Kishor Parishad.

from the Chief Guest, honourable State Minister of
Agriculture Matia Chowdhury, special guest Mr. Abdus
Sobhan Golap, Special Assistant to Prime Minister,
special guest Tarafder Md. Ruhul Amin, Chairman, Saif
Powertech Ltd. and the Vice President of Bangladesh
Chess Federation. Masudur Rahman Mallick, chess
teacher of DPS STS School and joint secretary of
Bangladesh Chess Federation was present there with the
students.278 students from all over Bangladesh
participated in the prestigious tournament.
Workshops :
Workshop for Teachers of Pre Primary Section:
A five day workshop was organised and conducted by the Coordinators of the grades KG, Pre KG, Nursery and
Playgroup, targeted towards the new teachers. It was a good platform to address some academic issues,
challenges, problems, doubts etc. The workshop helped the teachers to get a deeper understanding on subjects
and concepts. The presenters discussed some topics on English reading and writing, Mathematics,
Environmental Science, Bangla, along with some areas of lesson planning and motivational techniques. A
variety of approaches were applied, such as; presentations, interactive games, video screening, discussions, etc.
Teachers’ participation was ensured and the demonstration showcased five domains of child development and
the need of different learners.
Felicitations : Congratulations to Head of English Department, Primary Section, Ms.Nahid Tabassum and her husband, and
Admin Executive, Mr.Shakhawat Hossain and his wife on their wedding this month. We wish them a happy
married life.
