Eid al-Fitr At Edmonton County School we recognise the celebration of religious occasions and the importance of Eid al-Fitr in the Muslim calendar. For this reason we allow our Muslim students ONE day of authorised absence to celebrate this important occasion. Please ensure you notify the school in advance if your child will be absent. If a student takes more than one days leave, this will be recorded as unauthorised absence. Thank you for your co-operation

Year 3 This week in Year 3 we have been enjoying learning about the skeleton and labelling our body with the scientific names for our bones. We have been learning about the make up of our bodies, in particular the important role our muscles and bones play. We found out about the three types of skeletons, endoskeletons, exoskeletons and hydrostatic skeletons. We also conducted an experiment about which muscles we need to use for a variety of exercises, such as push ups, sit ups and squats. Needless to say, Year 3 really understand the importance of being healthy and in shape after this week!! Here are some of the facts that the children have enjoyed learning; 'Did you know that the cranium protects your brain!' Tyra 'Humans have endoskeletons, which means they are inside our body' Demi 'My favourite bone is the phalanges, it sounds funny, you can find them in your fingers and in your feet' Melisa

District Athletics This week Year 3 were the first children to represent Edmonton County

Primary School at the District Athletics event in Lea Valley Athletics Track.

The children enjoyed the afternoon competing in a variety of races including

hurdles and a relay. The children were a credit to our school and showed all

the schools in Enfield that Edmonton County Primary School is a school

where we are a family by cheering each other on and giving each other tips

before their big race.

We are already looking forward to going back next year when we will be about to take both Year 3 and Year 4!

Well Done to Amar, Amma, Sahana, Amira, Evrim, Mohamed, Kaiden and Zach for doing such a great job!

Celebrating success in the Sixth Form

Year 12

Examinations

Sixth Form students have been revising and working hard to complete their Level 3

examinations.

To help them prepare, teaching staff have provided extra intensive revision sessions

which students really appreciated, coupled with moral support from the Sixth Form

Team. We gave all students an Exam Buster Bag containing writing essentials and

goodies to keep them going during examinations. In addition, every morning exam

breakfasts were available in the Sixth Form Office from 8.00am – 8.30am. Healthy

food was available: fruit, yoghurts and energy bars to sustain them through the exams.

All students are now eagerly awaiting their results.

Transition Day

On 20th June students attended Transition Day where we introduced them to plans for studying and preparation for

their UCAS applications in Year 13. After a welcome assembly students attended three sessions designed to give them

a brief introduction to UCAS.

Which University/Heap Guide – students looked at possible careers and

studied the entry requirements and facilities offered at each institution.

ULAS – (Universal Leavers Application Service) a new on-line tool used

by students and staff to help them prepare their UCAS statements.

UCAS Session – covering and introduction to the UCAS process and career pathways.

All students received a helpful UCAS booklet with the new UCAS tariff, tips and suggestions for

completing their UCAS statement and the important timeline for completing various stages of the process.

Volunteering

Numerous students are in the throes of completing portfolios and timesheets for the volunteering they have

undertaken this year. Certificates from YAVE (Youth Action Volunteering Enfield) will be awarded at the end of term.

The volunteering they have completed will set them apart from other applicants on their chosen HE courses.

PACE Day

On 1st July our year 12 students will enjoy a PACE Day (Personal Action Changes Everything). This day is designed to

help students add interest to their personal statements. Students will have the chance to visit a University Open Day,

there are numerous at Cambridge and London Universities, or they may choose to visit a gallery, museum or other

institution relevant to their career path or interests. For instance, those wanting to study law can go to a Magistrates

Court, those interested in finance could visit the Bank of England’s exhibitions at Threadneedle Street. We have

produced a booklet full of interesting places around London that students can visit. We look forward to reading their

accounts of the day and seeing their photographs.

Bridging Day

Also on 1st July, we are holding our Sixth Form Bridging Event at Cambridge Campus. From 8am until 3pm students

who have applied to join our Sixth Form will come into school and sample taster lessons for their chosen subjects.

Year 13 Leavers Assembly Year 13 had their leavers’ assembly on Wednesday 25th May. They have worked hard this year to give themselves the very best opportunity of achieving their target and challenge grades. Students received special ‘characteristic’ awards and were reminded of the wonderful year they have had. Students also received a postcard wishing them the best of luck with their future endeavours. Firm and insurances choices for University have now been made and our students eagerly await their results on the 18th August!

Performance Success This Week!

On Sunday 19th June 2016, GCSE Year 9 students Yarah

Abdelhamed (vocals), Roshaan Duddus-Whynes (vocals),

Stefan Mileusnich (bass guitar), Robert Oprean

(keyboard), Callum Perkins (bass guitar), Gedvile Vicyte

(keyboard), Daniela Viljeva (keyboard) and Melinda

Yaman (vocals) performed at the North London Teach

First Opening Ceremony. As a class, they chose the highly

appropriate song ‘Hall of Fame’ by The Script which

perfectly sums up Teach First’s aims with its lyrics – ‘Be

students, be teachers, be leaders’.

Through weeks of preparation and rehearsals, the class

successfully arranged their performance and learnt their

parts to put on a fantastic performance in front of 250

trainee teachers. The performance was an excellent

success; the students were professional, well-rehearsed

and even had the audience clapping along! This was their

first public performance and we are immensely proud of

them for the effort and commitment they showed by

attending a weekend event to represent their school. It

was an excellent showcase of their progress this year.

Another fantastic achievement by our students this week

was Edmonton County’s Glee Club final performance at

Piccadilly Theatre on Monday. The students (Amber

Nathan, Lilani Peters, Isabelle Depooter, Azra Sonuch,

Celina Mahon, Melissa Mahon, Hiraane Dos Santos and

Markayla Bailey) have been working hard with Miss

Marshall and Pineapple Arts throughout the year,

preparing for the final competition held this week. They

performed on the West End stage in front of students,

tutors and guests, receiving the award for ‘Most

Improved’ since the preliminary performances in May.

The students were confident, enthusiastic and, most

importantly, had an amazing time. They were impeccably

behaved and we were very proud to have these students

represent our school. It was a fantastic opportunity for

the students to perform in front of guest judges

(including Bernie Lappage, Mayor of Enfield) in a West

End theatre.

Here’s to many more performances!

Year 10 Achievement! Haringey Police and Community Boxing Club Youth Day trip

Year 10 students from Bury and Cambridge campus were invited to attend a reward

trip to Alexandra Palace on 16th June 2016 in recognition of their positive progress in

eight of their subjects during the year. Here they had the opportunity to meet and

discuss opportunities available academically, culturally, socially and career wise, in a

safe environment with organisations from the private, public and voluntary sector. It

was a really informative day where students learnt about what elements of public

service they could get involved in.

Students had the opportunity to take

part in a range of activities and speak to

organisations such as:

Metropolitan Police Service

Duke of Edinburgh

London Ambulance Service

Haringey Boxing Club

National Citizen Service

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club

Royal Air Force Air Cadets
