QUALIFICATIONS

01. Post of Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic)

1. Should possess a Doctorate and be a Professor of a recognized University.

2. Should possess a minimum of 12 years of teaching experience, at University level.

3. Experience in Administration at Higher Educational Institution is compulsory.

4. Knowledge on the developments in Higher Education is essential.

5. Age Limit: 55 to 60 yrs (Except those who are on sabbatical leave)

02. Post of Librarian

1. (i) A First or a Second Class (Upper Division) in a Special Degree; or

(ii) A Second Class (Lower Division) in a Special Degree or a First or a Second Class

(Upper Division) in a General Degree; or

(iii) A pass in a Degree Examination and a Postgraduate Degree of at least 02 academic

years duration in the field of Library and Information Sciences with a research component by way of

thesis/dissertation;

AND

2. A Master’s Degree in Library & Information Science obtained after a full-time course of

study of at least two academic years duration (or an equivalent part- time course of study) with a

research component by way of thesis/dissertation or a Doctoral Degree

AND

3. Publications in the field of Library and Information Sciences

AND

4. At least fifteen (15) years’ experience after obtaining a first degree or at least ten (10)

years after obtaining the qualification at (2) above in one or both of the following :

(i) experience in Librarianship in a recognized Library

(ii) research in Library and Information Sciences

AND

5. At least the minimum marks laid in the Marking Scheme for the post of Librarian

Note :

(a) No credit will be given under (2) above to a postgraduate degree recognized under (1) (iii)

above.

(b) Applicants should submit their application along with the self evaluation according to the

Circular.

03. Post of Professor (All Faculties)

1. Qualifications to be Senior Lecturer Grade II, in the relevant subject.

AND

2. Fifteen (15) years’ after obtaining the qualifications for Lecturer (Probationary) as laid

down in Commission Circular No.721.

AND

3. At least the minimum marks laid in the Marking Scheme for Professorship.

04. Post of Associate Professor (All Faculties)

1. The minimum academic qualifications required for a post of Senior Lecturer (by

open advertisement) in the relevant field of study in post 4 or 6 of Commission Circular No.

721,

AND

2. At least the minimum marks laid in the Marking Scheme for Associate

Professorship.

05. Post of Senior Lecturer Grade I /II

1. Candidates should possess the academic qualifications required for Lecturer

(Probationary) [Non-(Medical/Dental)] as stipulated in the post No:02 of the UGC Circular 721.

AND

2. (i). A Doctoral Degree in the relevant field.

OR

For Faculty of Engineering and Computing

(ii). (a) A Masters Degree in the relevant field with full time research of at least 24

months duration.

For other Faculties

(ii). (b) A Masters Degree in the relevant field obtained after a full-time course of

study of at least 24 months duration (or an equivalent part-time course of study) with a research

component by way of thesis/dissertation.

or

(ii). (c) A full time Masters Degree in the relevant field of a minimum of 18 months

duration with at least 60 credits* of which not less than 15 credits* of research by way of

thesis/dissertation.

[*one credit considered per course unit/module should be in accordance with

the Sri Lanka Qualifications Framework (SLQF)]

OR

(iii). Such professional qualifications and experience as may be approved by the

Board of Management upon the recommendation of the selection committee of the General Sir John

Kotalawela Defence University.

AND

3. (a) For Senior Lecturer Gr. I - At least twelve (12) years of experience [of which not

less than six (06) years’ experience should have been after obtaining the qualifications stipulated in 2

above]

(b) For Senior Lecturer Gr. II - At least six (06) years of experience

in one or more of the following:

(i). Teaching at University level

(ii). Professional experience

(iii). Research in a recognized Institution

(iv). Postgraduate Studies

06. Post of Lecturer (Unconfirmed) - for all Faculties

1. Candidates shall possess the academic qualifications required for Lecturer

(Probationary) [Non-(Medical/ Dental)] as per Category (1) or (2) of Post No. 02 of Commission Circular

No. 721 as amended.

AND

2. A Master’s Degree (as specified in para 3 of commission circular 08/2016) or Doctoral

Degree, in the relevant field (but, less than 06 years of experience as specified in the scheme of

Recruitment for Senior Lecturer Grade II, by open advertisement, given in Post No. 06 of Commission

circular No. 721 as amended).

07. Post of Lecturer (Probationary) – for all Faculties

i. A Degree with specialization in the relevant subject with First or Second Class (Upper

Division) Honours.

OR

ii. A Degree with specialization in the relevant subject with Second Class (Lower Division)

Honours

OR

iii. (a) A degree with specialization in the relevant subject-without Honours or any other

degree with at least Second Class Honours, and (b) A Postgraduate Degree of at least 02 academic

years duration in the relevant subject with a research component by way of thesis/dissertation;

OR

iv. Such academic or professional qualifications or professional experience as may be

approved by the Board of Management upon the recommendation of the selection committee of the

General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University.

08. Post of Instructor Grade II – Faculty of Engineering

1. A first or second class in the BSc Engineering Degree in the relevant field from a

recognized University.

OR

2. (a). A pass in the BSc Engineering Degree in the relevant field from a recognized

University.

AND

(b). One (01) year experience in the relevant field.

OR

3. Any other Degree.

AND

A Postgraduate Diploma in the relevant field from a recognized University.

AND

One (01) year experience in the relevant field.

09. Post of Instructor Grade II – Faculty of Computing

1. A first or second class in the BSc Special Degree in the relevant field from a recognized

University.

OR

2. (a). A pass in the BSc Special Degree in the relevant field from a recognized

University.

OR

A first or second class in the BSc General degree with the relevant field as a

subject component from a recognized University.

AND

(b). One (01) year experience in the relevant field.

OR

3. (a). A pass in the BSc General Degree with the relevant filed as a subject

component from a recognized University.

OR

A first of second class in the BSc General Degree (where the relevant field is not

a subject component) from a recognized University.

AND

(b). Two (02) years’ experience in the relevant field.

OR

4. (a). A pass in the BSc General Degree (where the relevant field is not a subject

component) from a recognized University.

AND

(b) . Three (03) years’ experience in the relevant field.

5. Any other Degree.

AND

A Postgraduate Diploma in the relevant field from a recognized University.

AND

One (01) year experience in the relevant field.

10. Post of University Medical Officer

i. MBBS Degree from a recognized University.

ii. At least 03 years’ experience as a Medical Practitioner.

11. Post of Bursar

1. (a) Should possess the Membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of

Sri Lanka (CASL) or its equivalent;

AND

(b) Should possess at least six (06) years of experience in Accounting and / or

Auditing in an executive capacity after acquiring the qualifications at 1(a) above.

OR

2. A holder of the post of Deputy Accountant / Deputy Bursar / Deputy Internal Auditor in

the UGC or Higher Educational Institution / Institute with the following;

• Confirmed in that post with three (03) years of satisfactory service in that post

of which one (01) year should be after acquiring the qualifications at 1(a) above.

OR

3. A holder of the post of Senior Assistant Accountant / Senior Assistant Bursar/ Senior

Assistant Internal Auditor in the UGC or Higher Educational Institution / Institute with all of the

following;

• Confirmed in that post with ten (10) years of experience in accounting and / or

auditing in an executive capacity;

• At least eight (08) years of satisfactory service of above ten (10) years should

be in the post of Senior Assistant Accountant / Senior Assistant Bursar / Senior Assistant Internal

Auditor in the University system;

• Three (03) years of above eight (08) years of experience should be after

acquiring the qualification at 1(a) above.

OR


the UGC / Higher Educational Institution / Institute with all of the following;

• Confirmed in that post;

• Possess Intermediate qualification of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of

Sri Lanka (CASL) or its equivalent;

• Possess a Masters’ Degree in Accountancy / Finance / Management* from a

recognized University / HEI;

• Twelve (12) years of experience in accounting and / or auditing or above in an

executive capacity after successfully completion of the intermediate qualification of the CASL or its

equivalent;

• Ten (10) years of above experience should be in the post of Senior Assistant

Accountant / Senior Assistant Bursar / Senior Assistant Internal Auditor or above in the University

System.

OR



• Confirmed in the post with three (03) years of satisfactory service in that post;

• Possess a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University/HEI;

• Possess Intermediate qualification of the Institute of Charted Accountants of

Sri Lanka (CASL) or its equivalent

Or

Higher National Diploma in Accountancy (HNDA) conducted by the Sri Lanka

Institute of Advanced Technological Education (SLIATE) or its predecessor;

• Fourteen (14) years of experience in accounting and / or auditing in an

executive capacity after obtaining the Intermediate qualification / HNDA stated above;

• At least five (05) years of such experience should be in the post of Deputy

Accountant / Deputy Bursar / Deputy Internal Auditor and / or in the post of Senior Assistant

Accountant / Senior Assistant Bursar / Senior Assistant Internal Auditor in the University System

carrying the salary scale denoted by salary code U-EX 2 (I).

OR



• Confirmed in that post;

• Possess a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University / HEI

Or

the Intermediate qualification of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri

Lanka (CASL) or its equivalent;

Or

Higher National Diploma in Accountancy (HNDA) conducted by the Sri Lanka

Institute of Advanced Technological Education (SLIATE) or its predecessor;

• Not less than eighteen (18) years of experience in accounting and / or auditing

in the University System;

• Three (03) years of above experience should be in the post of Deputy

Accountant / Deputy Bursar / Deputy Internal Auditor in the University System.

OR

7. A holder of the post of Accountant Grade II of the Sri Lanka Accountants’ Service with

the following;

• Should possess the membership of the Institute of Charted Accountants of Sri

Lanka (CASL) or its equivalent;

Or

Master’s Degree in Accountancy / Finance / Management* from a recognized

University / HEI.

Note : ‘Accounting and / or Auditing’ experience means, experience gained in

an executive capacity in Accounting and/or Auditing in a State or Reputed Private Sector Organization.

* Term ‘Management’ means a Degree in Management / Public Administration /

Business Administration with major component in Accounting and Finance.

General Conditions

01. Should be a citizen of Sri Lanka.

02. Selections will be done in accordance with the recruitment and promotion procedures

approved in relation to each post by the University Grants Commission and based on the results of

interviews.

03. Selections will be done by the Board of Management of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence

University only within the approved number of vacancies for each post/grade.

04. Only the applicants who meet the required qualifications will be summoned for the interviews.

05. The University reserves the right to short list candidates for the interview.

06. Applicants are strictly advised to apply in the format which can be downloaded from the KDU

website. Late, incomplete or applications which do not comply with the prescribed format will be

rejected.

07. The Applicant should send the applications downloaded from the website (www.kdu.ac.lk) with

copies of relevant certificates by registered post to reach The Registrar, General Sir John Kotelawala

Defence University, Ratmalana on or before 31/ 08/ 2020.

08. For the post of Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Bursar and Librarian will be provided with

an official Vehicle/ Vehicle allowance with Fuel allowance and other applicable allowances.

09. Salaries are according to the latest UGC circulars. In addition to salary other allowances

approved by UGC will be paid.

10. Candidates are required to make a presentation (in English) before the Selection Committee in

order to prove their teaching ability.(for teaching staff only)
