His experience and understanding of city and state politics will res-onate and enlighten the expert audience. Kenneth I. Moch, Managing Partner, Salutramed Group Moch will offer a regional and national perspective and discuss the current and future biotechnology climate. He will share best practices and advice for Georgia to become a biotechnology capital using his broad expertise building, managing, and financing private and public life sciences companies from start-up through commercialization, and creation of five companies which have pioneered novel technologies. What is the purpose? ACTSI (Atlanta Clinical & Translational Science Institute), led by Emory University with partners Morehouse School of Medicine and Georgia Institute of Technology, and Georgia Bio, the state’s life sciences industry association, organize this conference annually. Keynote Speaker Pablo Legorreta, Royalty Pharma, Founder & CEORoyalty Pharma recently bought drug rights on Vertex Pharmaceuticals’ cystic fibrosis treatments from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in a deal believed to be the largest financial return ever made by any charitable organization working to find cures for medical disease. The proceeds will lead to further CF research.

What is the purpose? The Atlanta Clinical & Translational Science In-stitute (ACTSI), led by Emory University with partners Morehouse School of Medicine and Georgia Institute of Technology, and Georgia Bio, the state’s life sciences industry association, organizes this conference annually to provide critical information on how academia and industry can work together to translate science into discovery and engage communities in clinical research efforts and outcomes. The event provides a collaborative environment for university investigators and industry executives using a program filled with subject-matter experts describing current models and innovative trends shaping the future of translational science.

What will be discussed? The 6th Annual Academic & Industry Intersec-tion Conference will profile successful public-private-partnerships as well as examine how to navigate the commercialization process, followed by an expert panel featuring stories of successful academic/industry partnerships and first-hand stories of commercializing new technologies and startup creation. The conference will close with a fast-paced Shark Tank featuring faculty, student, and industry innovators presenting their technologies to investors and successful bioscience entrepreneurs and executives.
