Academia needs MCTs… Zeshan Sattar, Head of Curriculum Development, Agilisys Arch, UK To teach the MTA!

description

The explosion of the use of the MTA exams has exploded within academic settings. Yet, a lot of the institutions delivering the MTA are either just teaching to the exam or are being delivered by educators with a lack of experience of current industry trends. This is a ripe market where a MCT could add value. Sure, it won’t make the big bucks, but if you are between contracts it’s a great way to give back to the educational community and shape young minds! Find out why the MTA holds so much value within UK academia and how you can use the tools and resources available within the Microsoft IT Academy subscription to help educational institutions get more value from their programmes. This was delivered at the MCT Summit Europe 2013.

The Challenge

Lack of new entrants and skills shortage IT is expected to be one of the

fastest growing careers with over 550,000 new entrants over the next five years are required to fill IT job roles in the UK.

A projected one million more IT professionals are needed globally in the next few years.

Faculty skills shortage

UK ICT classes were being taught by non-specialist up until September 2012

Specialist ICT Teachers’ skills were found to be: Non-existent Lacked industrial experience Out of date “Rusty”

MTA Classes Cancelled

Lack of Apprenticeship trainers capable of delivering the MTA

New Trainers with lack of industrial background taking up the work No “war stories”

Consequently training just focusses on the textbook

If a Trainer not available the entry level class is cancelled

OpportunityIn the UK, the MTA certifications are a cornerstone of IT Apprenticeships…
