The scheme also received an award from Harpenden Society for enhancing the local environment THE HYTHE, EGHAM DOWNSIZER HOUSING COMPLETES ON SITE The Hythe is a Hanover Housing development of 30 high specification apartments and two chalet bungalows exclusively for the over 55’s built to HAPPI guidelines with a mixed tenure. The building is designed over three floors with triangular balconies creating a striking feature and providing generous outdoor amenity space. The proposal incorporates a number of sustainable features including PV panels on the roof and maximises day light and natural air flow in the apartments through the dual aspect arrangement. Built using a design and build contract with Feltham Construction the challenging site is located in a flood risk zone. The whole building is raised to combat this. Residents are now moving into the building and Archadia looks forward to the official opening. “This excellent development provides 24 hour care tailored to the needs of the residents.” Harpenden Town Mayor Brian Ellis ARCHADIA PRESENTS AT RIBA SEMINARS Archadia’s specialist knowledge in inclusive housing for an aging population led to an invitation to present a number of case studies and reflections at events organised by the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects). Mark Slater and Jean Hanna delivered presentations in Crawley and Reading to local RIBA chapters. ‘MULTIgENERATINAL HOMES’ - HOUSINg LIN CASE STUDY PUBLISHEDArchadia were invited to submit a case study to the Housing Learning and Improvement Network (LIN) for publication. The study focused on the way in which the design fostered a sense of community using open deck access and communal gardens. The case study can be found on our website.

ARCHADIA PRESENTS RESEARCH AT INTERNATIONAL DEMENTIA CONFERENCE In November Archadia presented their research into Dementia Friendly Environments in Extra Care Housing at the International Dementia Conference and Care show at the NEC Birmingham. The research was part of an exhibition curated by the Dementia Centre at Stirling University exploring innovative practice and ideas for dementia. The research involved undertaking post occupancy evaluations and consulting with resident focus groups in completed schemes which was a valuable experience for the practice. CASTLEMAINE COURT WINS BEST DESIgNED HOUSINg DEvELOPMENT 2015Archadia are proud to announce that Castlemaine Court has won Best Designed Housing Development in the Inside Housing awards. The scheme beat a number of high profile developments and was praised for its collaboration with the local community
