SARA ABALAN Sara Abalan studied at Paier College of Art and The New York Studio School. Early in her profession as an art director and illustrator, she worked on the original Cook's Magazine as art director and cover illustrator. Light, color, gesture and spatial relationships are many of the formal characteristics of Abalan's abstraction. Her process of layering, mark-making and building of surfaces in her paintings and drawings is an intuitive attempt to chronicle the daily events, encounters and fleeting moments experienced while living in a dense urban environment.

"We move through space constantly taking things away and leaving things behind,
forever changing our surroundings. We evolve, create, destroy and re-create over and over again which gives us our patina. I think of art in the same way, hoping the process
will provide resonant elements of interest and beauty," Sara Abalan.
