v ABSTRACT The study sought to determine the spiritual nursing care rendered by the staff nurses at St. John Hospital,a private secondary hospital located at Panganiban Drive, Naga City, was the setting of the study. It determined their level of awareness, extent of practice and thesignificant correlation between the staff nurses’ level of awareness and extent of practice of spiritual nursing care. The respondents of the study were 48 staff nurses of St. John Hospital assigned at the 1 st , 2 nd , 3 rd and, 4 th floor wards, Emergency Room (ER), Out-Patient Department (OPD), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Operating Room (OR), Delivery Room (DR) and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The study used the mixed method where a survey-questionnaire answered by all the 48 respondents and 15 others randomly-chosen for interview. The survey questionnaire measured the level of awareness and extent of practice of spiritual nursing care. Included were specific activities that described the extent of practice of spiritual nursing care which the staff nurses needed to identify. Furthermore, an interview was made, recorded and transcribed to substantiate the results of the study. Weighted Mean was used to determine the level of awareness and extent of practice of spiritual nursing care by the staff nurses at St. John Hospital. Moreover, Pearson Moment Correlation Method was used to determine the significant correlation between the two variables. The study derived the following conclusions: a. St. John Hospital Staff Nurses’ level of awareness regarding spiritual nursing care ranged from “high” to “very high.” b. St. John Hospital Staff Nurses’ extent of practice of spiritual nursing care ranged from “average” to “very high”

ABSTRACT

a. Staff nurses at St. John Hospital (SJH) are very much aware of the importance of rendering spiritual nursing care to patients.

b. Staff nurses at SJH provide spiritual nursing care by allowing their patients to pray and practice their own beliefs.

c. Staff nurses collaborate with the chaplain for the anointing of the sick, and respect the beliefs of their patients.

d. Staff nurses at SJH considered their religious affiliations and traditions as guides in performing their nursing functions.

e. Spiritual nursing care helped improve the condition of the patients and aided in their recovery.

f. Therapeutic touch is helpful to patients with spiritual needs for it supports, comforts and calms the patients.
