ket prices are static or even shrinking, and per-

sonnel costs are rising, automation technology

ply tasks. At this point encoTRive fills the gap

between fieldbus and drive technology:

It is a compact device containing motor, con-

verter, fieldbus communication, position clo-

sed-loop controller and an absolute measuring

system as well as optional I/Os and optional

brake.

Functions

Mechanic adjustment

Characteristics of the driven mechanics can be set within the encoTRive. In doing so, linear axes as

well as rotary axes are supported. From this point on, records can be programmed in respective

units such as degree, revolutions, mm, µm or neutral, as increments.

Absolute positioning

The desired target position will be approached by using the determined speed, the acceleration

ramp and the braking ramp. destination

Incremental positioning

Positioning starts at the current position, moving in the desired direction by the determined

distance. Speed and acceleration ramp and braking ramp are also taken into consideration.way

Number of revolution (rmp) / speed

Positioning starts with selected rpm / speed at the current position. The internal positions of the

limit switches are also kept under surveillance. The drive stops by given a command or reaching the

range limit.

Power reduction

Maximum motor power can be limited by software. This can be used for limiting the delivered

torque. At the same time it reduces the maximum acceleration and therefore the dynamic of the

system.

Limit switch

The encoTRive internally generates limit switch signals in order to stay within the permissible

range.

The absolute measuring system offers (with correct parameterizing and referencing) similar safety

to incremental positioning systems with commercial limit switches. Increased safety is a result of the

already verified positioning records, so that data which would overstep the range limit is rejected

right from the start.

Referencing

When installing or taking into operation the measurement system has to be referenced just once

to the zero point of the machine. This can be done over the fieldbus or the optionally supported

handheld terminal. After one-time referencing, the measuring system also operates in a dead-

voltage state, so that further referencing is not necessary even after power failure and moving the

motor axis in a not energized state.

Parameterizing over fieldbus

Especially, when the enocTRive has been already installed, a basic paramaterizing over a serial

interface is difficult or even not possible.

Over acyclical services, e.g. those of Profibus, the drive can be parameterized and diagnosed

during the cyclical fieldbus operation, while the machine / plant is running. Therefore, all drives

supplied by the fieldbus can be addressed by a centralized Class � master.

Firmware upgrade

In order to expand the functions of existing drives, the firmware can be loaded over the integrated

interface. This is especially profitable for serial producers using the optional I/O. Depending on the

fieldbus, firmware exchange is also possible via the bus.

Integration support

Due to the implementation of DSP �0�, encoTRive with CAN interface can be integrated without

drive specific software.

encoTRive supports the free PZD configuration for Profibus drives which ensures that only relevant

parameters are integrated in the process image and therefore special function blocks are unnecessa-

ry. For test and initial start-up you get a software tool all parameters of encoTRive can be adjusted

individually.
