Part 1: Inspring People
Abraham Lincoln, as president of the USA, not only
changed the history of the states, but also had an
influence on the history of the Western World.
Although he had only approximately twelve months
of schooling and no degree or diploma, he had very
good leadership qualities. He inspired not only his
people but left a significant legacy. He did not limit
himself in achieving his dreams.

Lincoln went on to become America’s 16th President. Although a civil war broke out in the beginning of Lincoln’s term, he continued his fight against slavery. As a president he showed kindness and compassion to all citizens, including slaves. In 1863 the Emancipation Proclamation paved the way for the 13th Amendment and abolishment of slavery.
When Lincoln came under fire for standing up for the slaves he would use a unique style of leadership – he told stories that explained his actions. Abraham Lincoln was President until 1865 when he was assassinated by John Wilkes Botha as part of a political statement against Lincoln’s compassion for slaves.
The civil war later became a vital point in American history, as following the victory of the Union in the war and the Emancipation Proclamation the Union held the right to seize any property owned by citizens rebelling against the anti-slavery laws.

The greatest lesson that can be learnt from
Abraham Lincoln is that he achieved greatness
in two fields – Law and Politics – regardless of
his formal education. He did not let his lack of
qualifications dictate his future. Lincoln also
put vast amounts of time, effort and emotion
into working towards the greater good of
others, changing American history. He will
forever be remembered as a role model for
future generations; honoured for perseverance
and phenomenal leadership.

After Abraham Lincoln moved to Illinois, he first
took on practical jobs: such as being a store man,
surveyor and a postmaster. Although these
were practical jobs; they were all leadership
roles. From this time Lincoln’s leadership
qualities started shining through. When he was
rejected by a law school, Lincoln decided to
study law in his spare time. He then went on to
become an incredibly successful attorney. He
showed perseverance in obtaining his status as a
lawyer.

Abraham Lincoln was born in a log cabin in
Kentucky, USA to two poverty stricken
parents – Nancy and Thomas. When he was
11 years old he lost his mother and, just one
year later, his father remarried. Lincoln and
his father clashed constantly as Lincoln
wanted to spend his days reading and
educating himself, whilst his father wanted
him to tend fields, as Thomas enjoyed doing.
