Foundation, presented a collection of pictures and reminiscences on Germany at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Wiesbaden. Showing photos of German history and culture as well as her own personal experiences as Consul General, she shared her views of

Germany with an audience of over 180 guests. Ms. Powell emphasized that it was not possible for her to capture the essence of “her” Germany in a few stereotypical statements and stressed the diversity and breadth of German society. Germany was quaint and romantic, but also open-minded and modern. It offered idyllic castles and vineyards along the Rhine, a bustling international airport and high-tech laboratories. Germans had a deep sense of history and a long, impressive intellectual tradition, but also a great sense of humor, not only during “Fastnacht” season. She also reflected on Germany’s remarkable development from an enemy of the United States to a reliable friend and ally assuming ever more much-appreciated responsibilities in different parts of the world. | Speech
