Who we are? C4 Photo safaris is Africa’s oldest and largest specialist photo safari company. We plan many scheduled and bespoke photo safaris each year. Each of these safaris is hand crafted to suit the exact requirements of our clients and we pride ourselves on our thorough communication and personal touch that we bring to every safari.

We are a photographic safari company run by wildlife photographers for photographers. All our photogra-phers have vast experience of the ecosystems they travel to. When travelling with C4 Photo Safaris you are guided by a professional wildlife photographer who knows the movements of the animals, the state of the ecosystem and where the best sightings are likely to be. It gives us great pride to use specific pho-tographers who can share the local knowledge and experience of the beautiful areas you travel to. We currently operate in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Ethiopia, Madagascar, Svalbard, Brazil, Antarctica and Japan and pride ourselves on providing a specialised, personal service to all our clients. The fact that many of our clients prefer small and customised tours, of whom 70% are repeat guests, gives an indication of the service we provide.

One of our major goals is to be the clear leader in the specialised photographic safari industry. We do this by constantly producing new concepts, ideas and destinations in the industry. Not content with only running photo safaris, we conceptualised what wildlife photographers would want in Africa.

In a first for southern Africa, C4 Photo Safaris has an exclusive photographic concession on Masha-tu Game reserve in Botswana. We have an array of specifically built photo hides that range from a seasonal bee-eater hide to underground elephant hides or reflection hides for birds.

Our first hide, the Matebole underground was built in 2011 and was an immediate success. Wildlife photographers travel from around the world to ex-perience the unique perspectives from it. Greg du Toit took the overall winning image of the BBC Veo-lia wildlife photographer of the year 2013 from the hide.

Photography luminaries Art Wolfe and Frans Lant-ing are amongst many other celebrated wildlife photographers to have photographed from it. The reason for the hide’s success is each one has been conceptualised and built by C4’s experienced and award winning wildlife photographers that do not compromise on your photography needs. This translates into one of the most special photo experi-ences a wildlife photographer can have.

We have added to the hides by now also building a very specialised Photo vehicle. Its design and con-cept stem from wanting to give clients unparalleled access to the excellent wildlife of Mashatu and allow them to photograph uninhibited and unconstrained.

Our many thousands of hours on safari vehicles have been the best research and combined with our photographic experience we have produced a specialist photo vehicle that is simply the ultimate experience in photographing from a vehicle.

The vehicle is a totally customised design, equipped with sliding gimble heads allowing for comfortable, quick and well supported photography in a 270 de-gree radius for each photographer. Bean bag arch-es allow you even faster access to get the initial shot. Cushioned, dust and waterproof bag storage compartments allow for fast access to your lenses and other photographic equipment. The vehicle comes with your specialised photographic guide and a Mashatu field ranger. There are two rows of seats in the back of the vehicle, one row for each photographer.
