ABOUT THE UNIT
1(P) Indep coy NCC Unit was originally raised as 55 Rifle
Company and affiliated to 17 Madras Bn NCC in the year of 1963.
The Unit was re-organized as 1(P) Indep Coy NCC on 14 June
1964.
Again The Unit was re-organized as 1(P) Bn NCC with a
strength of 8 Officers and 1600 Cadets in August 1964.
The Unit was re-organized as 1(P) Indep Coy NCC,
Puducherry in April 1968. The present organization and strength
of the Unit is as Under:-

1. INTRODUCTION: -
Bommaiyarpalayam Village is located in
Villupuram (Coastal District of Tamil Nadu) on the eastern coast, Bay
of Bengal, 142 KMs south of the State Capital. It lies between
Northern Latitude 11.986423 degrees and 79.8466643 degrees Eastern
Longitude.
Viluppuram District was earlier a part of
Cuddalore District. It was then bifurcated from Cuddalore and
became a separate district on 30th September 1993. The Cholas were
the early rulers. Among these rulers, Karikala Chola was the most
famous and powerful. Viluppuram District lies between 11 38' 25" N
and 12 20' 44" S: 78 15' 00" W and 79 42' 55" E with an area of
7222.03 Hec. It was carved out from the South Arcot District on
30.09.1993 and was rechristened as Viluppuram District
Vilupuram District is situated in the North eastern part of Tamil Nadu having a total area of 7222 Sq.Km. and with a total population of 3.16 lakhs. It is a backward district and the main occupation is agriculture. It is covered on four sides by other Districts namely Tiruvanamalai, Kanchipuram, Vellore Cuddalore and Salem Distrcts. A part of Vanur Taluk and Tindivanam Taluk are exposed to the Bay of Bengal. The District Head quarters is Viluppuram . The length of seashore in Tindivanam Taluk is 42 KM, and that of Vanur Taluk is 25 Km.
As it is, in the coastal belt of Villupuram District, the fishing industry is flourishing because of potential fish market. Allied activities such as catamaran and boat building industries, dry fish marketing and Fish exports are flourishing in this area. Most of the fishermen are illiterates and the Arivoli lyakkam has turned something fruitful.

In accordance with DDG(TN,P & AN) Group Commander
directives vide NCC Headquarters letter 1004/CDA/2011/Trg dated
2.5.2011, a small village Bommaiyarpalayam in Villupuram District
was adopted for undertaking welfare measures to improve the quality
of life of village population residing in this adopted village. The
adopted village Bommaiyarpalayam is approximately 8KMs far away
from the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Kalapet (Puducherry).
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya has got NCC Junior Division with 100
cadets.

Bommaiyarpalayam is mostly humid and hot. It relies on the monsoon

ANTI- TOBACCO CAMPAIGN

As a prelude to the Anti Tobacco Day being observed on 31 May 2011, about 125 cadets from 1(P) Indep coy Unit of NCC Puducherry, took out a rally today at Bommaiyarpalayam Vanur Taluk Villupuram District TamilNadu. Addressing the gathering prior to flag off of the rally, Cdr Deviner Singh, Commanding Officer of the 1(P) Indep coy Unit, said that all living beings have the right to live in a healthy environment and it is our duty to educate everybody to refrain from smoking and using tobacco. He emphasized that as cadets of National Cadet Corps we should take pledge that we would not use tobacco and prevent others from using it too. The cadets first took an anti tobacco pledge and then took out the rally shouting slogans to raise awareness against the usage of tobacco. Cadets also attended a seminar on Cancer Awareness and its prevention and also ill effects of smoking and other uses of tobacco were explained to them. 65 Cadets of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Kalapet (Puducherry) remaining cadets from other neighboring schools of Bommaiyarpalayam participated in one day camp being conducted by 1(P) Indep coy NCC and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Kalapet (Puducherry) at Bommaiyarpalayam Village. The cadets are being trained in many aspects that would help them groom into a better citizen of this country and join the Defence Forces. They were also given given a talk about Health & Hygiene, and other Service Subjects.

ENVIRONMENT AWARENESS PROGRAM ANTI PLASTIC

Members of National Cadet Corps of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya took out an "anti-plastic and save environment awareness" cycle rally from Kalapet (Puducherry) to Bommaiyarpalayam Vanur Taluk Villupuram Dist. TamilNadu on Friday, 03/06/2011.
Around 60 Cadets took part in the rally, which was flagged off by Shri A.Vinayathan Principal, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Kalapet (Puducherry)
During the rally, the cadets could create an awareness among the public of saving the environment by planting more saplings, establishing rainwater harvesting structures and removal of garbage. TSimilarly, a rally emphasising the need to follow road rules and preventing accidents was taken out by Cadets, members of traders' associations, autorickshaws and lorry drivers.
Carrying banners and placards, Cadets from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Kalapet (Puducherry) participated in the rally, which began from Vinayaka Temple, Bommaiyarpalayam and culminated at Bommaiyarpalayam kuppam.

Tree Plantation :- (16 July 2011)
60 NCC Cadets under the 1(P) Indep coy NCC Unit, took part in a tree plantation drive at Bommaiyarpalayam Village today. All 60 NCC Cadets from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Kalapet (Puducherry) participated in the event and planted 200 saplings of various medicinal and fruit bearing plants in the Village.
This is a part of the NCC activities in the region to promote green and clean environment.
