Dear Colleagues,
Diversity looms large in our world right now. Even in just one day, our tolerance for diversity is tested many times. Our consciousness struggles to accept or reject the ideals and principles of individuals and communities that surround us. Successful strategies for dealing with the chaos, strife, and adversity diversity stirs up can help us to combat the fear and uncertainty we face. When we dig in our heels and get stubborn and righteous, we need to ask ourselves if that is really making a positive difference. Or would everything be resolved anyway if we just waited it all out- went with the fl ow? How can we tell when to hold fast and when to let go? Sometimes just the sheer number of decisions we must make each day, large and small, can be exhausting. How can we think outside the box, fi nd clarity, direction? Self-care can fortify us and protect us from stress: massage, bodywork, meditation, exercise, and rest. Solitude can calm down the overworked conscience. Turn off the news, Facebook, emails, just for a weekend. Make your very own retreat- its free!
Beauty is a balm that can lift you to another level of consciousness, and bring perspective to situations you may face. Take time to drink in nature, or to visit an art museum. Time spent in a greenhouse fi lled with orchids can do a lot for the soul. Fabric stores will take you on a rich visual and kinesthetic journey. Take time to look at your home or offi ce with fresh eyes and enjoy again the many small treasures you forgot you already have. Hug a pet. Hug a child. Hug a tree. Let the warmth in – no words or worries or decisions. These little breaks can give us back our stamina, and lighten us up. And if we can come to our practices a bit lighter, our clients can lighten up, too. And all across the world maybe we can all breathe more freely in those moments of peace. To get there we have to remember how that feels- peace- so don’t begrudge yourself or others those softer moments when they come.
