In 1931, MBA helped sponsor legislation that established a retirement program for state employees. In addition, MBA became the first designated organization to offer group life insurance to employees of the state. Minnesota Benefit Association has broadened its scope over the years. Now, in addition to state employees, membership includes county, municipal, township and school district employees and elected officials. About Minnesota Benefit Association Eligible employees Class I Township Officer Class II Full-Time Employee (scheduled for 20 hours per week or 1,000 hours annually) Group term life insurance A township enrolls all of its officers and has the option of including employees who work for the township at least 20 hours per week. All officers and employees must be covered by the same plan. The township pays the premium and all officers are required to participate. Group dental and vision insurance Each township officer and employee has the option to participate. At least two officers or employees must participate to enroll in the group program. The township will be billed for all participating offers and/or employees; however, the township can request reimbursement from the officer or employee for the annual premiums. Identity theft and legal protection program A township officer and employee has the option to participate. The individual policyholders will be billed monthly via credit card, and not through your township payroll. The MaxCare network gives you over 7,000 access points in Minnesota and discounts of 5-50% on dental services. Additionally, when you utilize a MaxCare dental provider, your out-of-pocket costs may be lower because they have agreed to a negotiated fee for services. You are responsible for any coinsurance and the required deductible. It is important to note that if you receive care from a non-MaxCare provider, your out-of-pocket charges will be based on the Reasonable and Customary charges.
