Reviews of Andrew’s booksYour grooves are amazing! i feel like it is really inspriring. My favourites so far are track 1,2 and 4... im on the second riff so far andthey are so good!! thank you for making the book E.H. Great Britain Ultra Smooth Jazz Grooves for Eb

I am a private instructor of piano and guitar in Fishers, IN and I absolutely love everything that you've put on the market so far. Iespecially like and use your 100 ultimate blues and jazz licks as well as the piano bass lines book. I think you're doing a great job andI hope you will remember me because I also use Scott 'the piano guy' Houston's approach and have more or less integrated hisbeginning methods with your licks in my everyday teaching approach.C.H.100 Ultimate Blues Riffs for Piano/Keyboards

"The blues book really helped. There are riffs that I have heard for several years, but most of the time if you try to learn them off atape or CD, the musician is playing so fast you can't catch everything. Your book shows how all that is done. I can pratice at slowerspeeds and then work up to full tempo. It has helped me play fuller sounding chords. As I have implemented the riffs in my playing, Iget a lot of compliments on my playing."T.S. 100 Ultimate Blues Riffs for Piano/Keyboards

I am finding this book/cd combo invaluable. Although a bit challenging, it makes learning to play the blues accessible and the riffsprovide a great short-term goal, which keeps me progressing. It is exactly what I have been looking for and is as good as privatestudy because of the CD. Yay, Andrew Gordon. Thanks!M.L.NY 100 Ultimate Blues Riffs for Piano/Keyboards

The 60 Funkiest Keyboard Riffs Known To Mankind book contains some of the great secrets of the Funk world! No longer do youhave to stare at the TV trying to see what masters such as Herbie Hancock or Chick Corea are playing. It's all here. By integrating thetricks in this book to your solos you can dramatically transform the sounds of mere pentatonic blandness into exotic 20th centuryharmony, and leave yourself amazed by the results. I tried for years to get the authentic sounds and discover the scales myself, to noavail. This book has transformed my playing and given me new directions to take my Keyboard playing. Buy this book...you won't bedisappointed!Ed Feast, Nottingham England

Hi, I have purchased your " 100 ultimate riff " book which I must say is one of the best books I have ever come across period! as ithas enabled me to achieve that Jazzy sound that I have been searching for the last 7 years. Even the Jazz tutor that I have had in thepast have not been able to show me what your book has shown me.... Just like yourself I have learned to play and improvise over theBlues but when it came to improvise over songs like "Misty" and " Someone to watch over me " I was completely lost for Notes toplay that would sound good & Jazzy . I had nearly given up hope in even trying to be a Jazz piano player for the last 7 years but Manythanks to you and your wonderful book I can see the light at the end of the tunnel! I would just like to say that I am very verysatisfied with your book and I think in is worth its weight in gold...Many Many Thanks Have A Nice Day Rgrds. Danny Manini LondonEngland 100 Ultimate Jazz Riffs for Piano/Keyboards

I enjoy much the Chord progressions you chose and the scale relations that were picked I am well versed in this area and I feel youcovered it nicely. Would have liked a little more funk and latin but I have additional books of yours that handle that. I find yourbooks are useful for my own creative juices by starting with one of your grooves and then I toy with it until I have recreatedsomething new from it. Your music has an uncanny ability to reinvent itself easily. There is another book of yours on different stylesthat I will be purchasing in the near future. D.H. 100 Ultimate Jazz Riffs.I received the book and immediately sat down in my studio and began working on the first few examples. Being a sax player in latinbands here in New Orleans I know this book will increase my knowledge of the music tremendously. These are authentic Latin pianoparts and books covering Latin music just don't exist...until now! Once I work thru this book I will be buying others you offer. Thanks,E.G. Ultimate Latin Riffs for Piano/Keyboards

This guy knows what he's doing. I've studied jazz piano privately on and off for years, but recently have delved deeper into self-studying. I've always loved Latin jazz but never tried it for myself, except for some standard Bossa and Samba tunes ala Jobim. Carlos

Campus really shows his expertise in the way he presents the material. It ranges from easy to advanced riffs and chord movements -and some of the voicing are very hip. Good luck fellow musicians! B.M.Clifton NJ Ultimate Latin Riffs for Piano/KeyboardsGREAT BOOK! IT HAS ENHANCED MY PLAYING BY 50% IN APPROX. 4 WEEKS TIME. THANKS SO MUCH...K.D. Pensacola FL CountryRiffs for Piano/Keyboards

My teacher bought this book for himself. I thought it was so good I also bought a copy. Gives 100 sample Jazz riffs in Swing, Funk,Latin, Ballad, Waltz. Plays the riff once with sax then repeats with just the backing so you can play. Makes you use unfamiliar phrasesrather than rely on your favourite runs. Like the author, I found blues solos (relatively) easy but was totally lost when it came tosoloing on even the simplest 'standards'. Found the riffs quite interesting, technically a challenge and the chord progressioninformation useful. Some books can be cheesy and boring - not this one. And of course it will improve your sight reading. DerekAbbots Langley UK 100 Ultimate Jazz Riffs for Eb Sax

this is a great book for learning basic to complex jazz rhythmes! When used with the cd it is easy to break down any awkward partsand practise until you get your finges around them. I would recommend this book to any brass player wishing to give jazz or blues ago! 100 Ultimate Blues Riffs for Brass instruments.

I am a professional musician from Sacramento, CA. I have worked for many oldies acts, such as Chubby Checker, Sha Na Na andPeter Noone of Herman's Hermits. I just wanted to let you know that I have purchased several of you keyboard instructional booksand have found them to be very useful in my work and they have taken my playing to a new level. Keep up the good work. G.G.Sacramento CA

I am really enjoying your “Outta Sight, Funk and R&B Riffs For Piano/Keyboards”.I am now at the beginning (I will work tomorrow on the track #9), but I already feel that my funk playing improves day after day. N.A.Casablanca Morocco

Congratulations and Bravissimo! I LOVE this new Boogie Woogie and The Blues CD! Lucky me that you took the time and effort totranscribe this muisc. It is SO REFRESHING! You have so imaginatively integrated traditional blues sounds in a new and innovativeway. I myself have been in what I call a "riff rut". Studying this book is going to open my mind immensely. I am really excited aboutpracticing these tunes. THANK YOU so much for producing this and being willing to share it with others. I love the discography at theend of the book. I will pursue obtaining these CD's as well. All the greats that you cite would be so proud of your accomplishment. Rock on! D.F. Florida

Mr. Gordon, THANK-YOU! I successfully received all of the attachments and look forward to learning! I have a piano teacher in townbut I seem to have a mind block regarding what to do with my left hand no matter what he tries to show me--he wants me toimprovise, to "play what sounds good", but I have no idea where to start, I needed notes on paper to give me ideas! So thank-youfor writing this book, I can already tell it will be a huge help! T.A. Beaverton OR

I'm using the books for teaching at Southampton Solent university, I have already a hard copy of the 12 bar blue bible which i pickedup in a shop here and it has been invaluable for teaching pupils riffs and improvisation techniques - they are all popular musicperformance students and i have found that giving them an exercise from your books in class every other week gives them astructured routine of learning as many just play by ear so having to read the music is invaluable - the guide tracks help so muchaswell with the more complicated rhythmic pieces. I have found your book to be of a perfect standard and the riffs all sound great, there are so many books where the music is geared for younger children, ie microjazz etc and just doesn't cover older pupils with

The book, Utimate Latin Riffs is a great contribution to the music arts and industry. I greatly appreciate this resource. Thank you forbringing this book and the supplemental CD and MIDI media to the market. D.K. OR

I recently purchased your book, 12 Bar Blues Bible from World Of Music in Nowra NSW. I love the book and your playing andinterpretations. M.H. NSW Australia

This is a fabulous book, it does what it says, the riffs are so various you can get a great insight into the different styles covered. Thisis perfect for anyone who has an interest in developing their blues skills. (About me, classically trained, Music academy background)Andrew's instructions and tips are comprehensive and you can choose your favourites and concentrate on them, or have a go at thelot ! Well worth it, make your own mind up, I think this is a true gift and very generous of Andrew to share his love of music in thisway.A.H. London U.K.

Flute practice was getting dull and becoming a chore. In addition to scales, etudes, etc. that must be done, I wanted some "dessert."My favourite music is Blues, and after some searching I found "100..Riffs." It was exactly what I needed to reignite my interest. As abeginner/intermediate level player, the book has riffs I can play right off and some I have to work on. I am very pleased with thisbook.

Your books/downloads are ideal and works really well with our music curriculum and we will highly suggest all our students to checkyour work out. A.B.London Centre of Contemporary Music

Hi Andrew, The recent book download (contemporary licks) is fantastic, there is certainly a lot of very useful information there, awhile ago ( I think it was last year ) I bought the outta sight funk book, that is also fantastic, although I play concert piano I actuallyfound the funk keyboard grooves extremely challenging to play accurately), but it just had the audio tracks on the disc, the midifileswould have been ideal, I like altering midi files tempos etc and then adding different tweaks and hearing the results.Just to say I think your products are the best of the best, there is no waffle, just the relevant information

"I took my bass amp to a repairman in Burbank last week and in the middle of all these amplifiers was a piano. On top of his pianowas two books -the Hanon excercises and one of your books Andrew! He told me that though he was a guitarist, he really enjoyedlearning piano and commended your book very highly. He was incredulous when I told him that not only did I know you, I also hadan opportunity to sit in with you. He said to tell you he's getting a lot of enjoyment from your book. (He played some of theexamples and sounded great!)"

The ultimate blues organ riffs in this book and audio CD make for enjoyable home study on my hammond organ setup. It is clear, gets the point across, and is an entertaining way to learn how to play better.

Country Riffs for Piano/Keyboards is everything I expected it to be. I would recommend this book to anyone needing help withplaying country music by ear. It gave me more confidence.

Hi Andrew,Your publications are wonderful. This is my fourth one!, They provide a nice push in the right the direction for me. I've used some ofthese ideas in public and the response I received was incredible. V.C. N.J.

Gordon</a>Album reviewsMake no mistake about it... when you check out this new disc, you're going to hear Jazz with a capital "J." L.A.-basedkeyboardist/guitarist Andrew D. Gordon and sax man Frank Villafranca, calling themselves The Super Groovers, have put together anexceedingly cool collection of original contemporary jazz tunes, expertly embellished with elements of blues, funk, and Latingrooves. SUPERGROOVIN' draws from their vast experience as performers and authors. In fact, they've published a whole series ofinstructional guides with titles ranging from "60 of the Funkiest Keyboard Riffs Known to Mankind" to "100 Ultimate Blues Riffs forSaxophone" to "Rhythm Guitar Workout," available through their A.D.G. Productions. So, the question is, do they eat their owncooking? Absolutely! They feast on it, as a matter of fact. This album is filled with a compelling retro vibe that'll remind you at timesof Booker T and the MG's (check out the bluesy "To Our Loved Ones") and at other times has more of a fusion feel, like somethingfrom the Crusaders or Herbie Hancock songbooks. In addition to the lead-off track, "Super Groover," with its lively, festive Latinpulse, I especially dig the fast-paced "Seaside Adventures in Hollypool" and the Latin-flavored "To the T." SUPERGROOVIN' from TheSuper Groovers is a fun, festive musical romp offering a whole lot to like! ~SCOTT O'BRIEN

The Super Groovers, Our Featured Artist for the Month of January 2009. I have had the privilege of airing several tracks from the CDSupergroovin'. The track Super Groover first aired during the Tank Davis "Smooth Roun' Midnite" broadcast, and has been one ofthe most requested tunes along with Groovin With In Crowd (one of my personal favorites) and the very melodic Past Present AndFuture Expressway. Super Groovers -- is that a great name for a jazz unit, or what? Whoever these fellows are, their eponymous track is melodic, energetic, hook-laden and has a summer-y vibe ... Carol Archer Radio & Records Magazine

The duo was given encouragement to record ‘Supergroovin’ by a reviewer of one of their educational books and the project isperfectly characterized by the title track. Shimmering with retro vibes and driven along by Gordon’s funky keyboards this fizzy sliceof rhythm and groove is beautifully balanced by Villafranca’s velvety sax. ‘Past Present And Future Expressway’ is another groovingtune but one that takes a mid route diversion into something a little experimental while with ‘It Will Come Back To You’ Villafrancaand Gordon find themselves firmly in mellow smooth jazz territory. ‘Seaside Adventures In Hollypool’ is jazzy with urgent brass and‘Spiritual Seeker’, although equally brass driven, has a distinctly ‘swing meets funk’ feel to it.

However the album is not all about high octane energy and the Super Groovers prove this with the tranquil yet bluesy ‘To Our LovedOnes’. It’s a terrific feel good number that benefits from Villafranca’s excellent sax and there is more of the same on ‘To The T’. ThisSmooth Jazz Therapy favorite opens up in relaxed style but still finds a place for some funky sax while just as good is ‘Groovin WithThe Crowd’. Despite starting out introspectively it quickly gets on a Latin roll and mixes in more top notch sax along the way. DenisPoole www.smoothjazztherapy.com

The Super Groovers - Supergroovin’ 3/3 [Performance/Sound; 5/5 max] O's Notes: There are only two musicians on this recording.Frank Villafranca plays all saxophones and vocals with Andrew D. Gordon handling the rest; keys, p, g, b, drum programming andcomputer sequencing. All of the music was written, arranged and produced by the duo as well. They open with the title track andimmediately set the mood to energetic R&B-laced jazz. This is followed up by "It Will Come Back To You", a mid tempo romancerfeaturing Frank on sax. They mix things up with syncopated funk, R&B and even some blues on "To Our Loved Ones". As we flippedthrough the liner notes, we noticed that Gordon and Villafranca have also published many contemporary music educational books. With Supergroovin', they practice what they preach! -- D. You seem to have the slick production of smooth jazz but there is a certain hipness and rhythm to your music that makes it a cutabove the rest. Sorta of LA "60 's groove meets Steely Dan... very cool. Stephen Rourke Singapore 365 radio

This is an aptly named Recording it is certainly Super and it also Grooves to an exceptionally high level. This is quite simply a terrificC.D.the mixture works very well and the Compositions and Arrangements vary the Tempo with a fair degree of skill while retainingsound harmonies from first to last. Played 4 tracks on my Jazz Programme tonight and will be playing the rest in the forthcoming weeks and in the future. After severallistenings in peace and quiet and accompanied by a small !! Malt Whisky to set the mood I cannot remember the last time when Ienjoyed a recording so much. Without being patronising, this is a superb recording, terrific variation on themes and tempos it leavesthe listener eagerly wondering what the next track will bring. Musicianship of the highest quality, bright, innovative, it all moves alongat a brisk pace, the arrangements are well defined and thought out and a variety of moods is well encapsulated. I can find no faultwith this recording and enormous credit is due to the multiple musical talents of Messrs Gordon and Villafranca, and they deserveevery success with this recording. John Reid Keith Radio Scotland

I first became acquainted with sax man Frank Villafranca and keyboard / guitar player Andrew D Gordon back in 2007 when, as TheSuper Groovers, they released their aptly named debut CD ‘Supergroovin’. At the time I described it as being “a tight collection ofeight expansive tracks” and now The Super Groovers are back with the equally eclectic ‘Mainline Connection’.The Super Grooversmake an early statement of their smooth jazz credentials with the easy grooving ‘You’re The One In My Life’ yet, truth to tell, fromthe afro beat of ‘Safari, I Can See’ to the reggae groove of ‘Right Track Wrong Train To Jamaica’, the album rapidly develops into

something of a musical world tour. A further sunshine filled stop-over takes in the laid back confines of ‘Villefranche Sur Mer’ whilein similar vein is the mellifluous title cut where the interplay between Gordon and Villafranca is at its finest.Elsewhere ‘Can Of BlissIsland’ proves to be an edgy piece of rhythmic funk and although the evocative ‘Walking The Lonely Streets’ is a song that has beenused as background music on numerous television episodes, ‘A Cry For Peace’ serves as both a study in reflective blues and a socialcommentary on the wrongs of war.Memorable moments include the terrific ‘Keep The Past Alive’ where smatterings of HammondB3 from Gordon really add to the pleasure. Its right up there with the best that ‘Mainline Connection’ has to offer but in terms ofpersonal favorites, and despite its chilled beginning, ‘Destinasian is a tune that quickly gets on an appealing mid tempo roll andstays there.Dennis Poole www.smoothjazztherapy.com

When I first sat down to listen to The Super Groovers, I thought of arriving at an outdoor concert at a huge venue packed with jazzfans. As I park my car and head for the entrance, I hear this band blaring out some tight and oh-so-funky tune accentuated by apowerful horn arrangement. As it turns out on this smokin’ album, Mainline Connection, the horns are actually overdubbed and onebadass cat, Frank Villafranca, is responsible for all of the cool sax and flute action and arrangements. No matter. The vibe is exactlywhat it is…dead on and just right for the scenario I just painted. This CD has it all — funk, reggae, Latin & Brazilian influences, catchy hooks, melody, sass, class, and a load of talent on everyinstrument. What’s really impressive is that we’re only talking about two guys and a whole lot of mixing, arranging, and production. It’s truly one of those “You’ve gotta hear this” scenarios. How they escaped my radar I will never know, but am I ever pleased that Iwas treated to such a rich introduction as this latest groove displays. The album begins with the rousing “You’re the Only One In My Life” and never stops to take a breath as it dances through up-tempoand mid-tempo jams alike with equal doses of passion. This is high energy coupled with an apparent knack for feeling what works forthe contemporary jazz aficionado. Another very satisfying and well-done CD all around. This is an easy add to your collection andnot one you want to miss. – Ronald Jackson thesmoothjazzride.com

The Super Groovers set a high standard for themselves when they released their first CD, Supergroovin’. It would be hard to expect asecond Album to be on par. But with the release of their CD Mainline connection, the bar has been raised even higher. It is aneclectic instrumental mix of funk, jazz, Latin, reggae and blues. There are 10 tunes on the album which does not have a mediocretrack. The melodies are memorable and the grooves irresistible. My favourite is the title track which would come under the smoothjazz category and there are some nice phrasing from sax and piano. Walking The Lonely Streets is a poignant piece with the flutemaking the statement. Later the piano augments the mood. Part of it is given a reggae treatment. This tune was written by AndrewD. Gordon who plays keyboards, guitar, bass and drum programming on the album. He collaborates on the other tracks with sax andflute player Frank Villafranca. A Can Of Bliss has a knockout keyboard solo and Keeping The Past Alive begins with nice interplaybetween sax and organ. Safari I Can See is set to an African beat complete with steel drum cameo. Right Track Wrong Train ToJamaica has a compelling reggae beat and the organ solo is worth listening to again and again. It is a tribute to The Super Groovers’musical ability that they can wander into so many genres and yet remain faithful to their unique sound. The Super Groovers - Mainline Connection 3/3 (Performance/Sound. 5 max on each) O's Notes: The Super Groovers are FrankVillafranca (sax) and Andrew D. Gordon (keyboards, g, b, programming). They have a cool Caribbean vibe mixed with a touch of oldschool rhythms that is relaxing. The duo handle most of the melodies on sax and piano, a fine example of 1+1 = more than 2! -- D.Oscar Groomes O's Place Jazz Magazine http://www.OsPlaceJazz.com

Boogie Woogie & The Blues solo piano album reviews

Review by Vincent ZumelWith this album, piano player and teacher Andrew D. Gordon aims to do his particular tribute to the great names of blues andboogie-woogie like Pete Johnson, Albert Ammons, Meade Lux Lewis or Jimmy Yancey, in whose work he has always found hisinspiration. For more than forty years he has been listening this kind of music and now he has written nine songs to be included inthe cd. His passion for blues comes from 1968, when Andrew first heard Nicky Hopkins playing "Blues DeLuxe", along with Jeff Beckon guitar and Rod Stewart on vocals. Andrew D. Gordon was born in England and in 1979 he moved to California to follow hismusical career. He teaches piano at the Shepherd University School Of Music in Los Angeles and he also gives Internet online lessonsthrough Skype and a webcam. Enjoy blues and boogie-woogie along these nine songs this great master has recorded for you in thisintimist album. VERY GOOD.

Review by BmanI recently received a cd of piano boogie and blues by Andrew D. Gordon called Boogie-Woogie and the Blues. This is a straight uppiano cd with 9 original tracks. The cd opens with the title track and is a stark contrast to the overproduced recordings that Isometimes receive. Just a man and his piano. Raggedy Blues is an uptempo take blend of Boogie and Ragtime. It's actually a prettyinteresting take on the fusion of the two. Boogie In the Sunshine is a straight ahead boogie and one that you will likely find enjoyableif you like boogie piano. I like the piano syncopation that Andrew gets going in the track. Boogie With Nicky is moves along prettyquickly and may be a nod to Gordon's appreciation for piano great Nicky Hopkins. Come On You Blues ventures on the boogie trainin to a jazz genre. I like the change and it is quite sophisticated. Holly and Ben's Boogie is a cool 12 bar blues with pianoimprovisation. H.R. Blues is a slow grinding blues and possibly my favorite. Junk Mail Blues takes on the New Orleans feel anddelivers the gumbo. Korean Barbecue Blues has that old style boogie feel and is a good conclusion to the cd.If you like acapella piano and you like boogie-woogie...this may be your ticket!
