He hasalsobeen the spokesperson of the Indian National Congress.Currently,AbhishekManuSinghviisrepresentingRajasthan in the upper of Indian Parliament known asRajyaSabha.In 1999,AbhishekManu Singhviwasawarded by the Global Leader ofTomorrowAward.

BJP also accusedotherCongress leaders for generating black money in the country.Following this case, Sonia Gandhi,president oftheIndian National Congress party, had been asked to clarify this issue.Income Tax Settlement CommissionimposedAbhishekManuSinghviwitha penalty of about Rs.57crorefor the period offinancialyears 2010-2011 and 2012-2013.Following this levy,Singhvifiled aplea forexemption from prosecutionof the charges,but his petitionwas also rejected.

According to local news,Income Tax Settlement Commissiondepartment monitored huge expenses underAbhishekManuSinghvisheadduring the financial year 2010-2011. When he was asked for the records,hefailed to produce any vouchers forthe aforementionedperiod of time. He claimed to have lost all of the recordsas termites attacked the office of his subordinate where the recordhad been placed.Likewise,in the financial year, 2012-2013,Singhvispent money more than Rs 75croreon books, stationery, printing and other things. This time, however, he produced most of thevouchers,but therecords related to triflingamountcould not beconfirmedby the taxdepartment.

In Feb 2012,SambitPatra,BJP spokespersonreported thatAbhishekManuSinghvispentRs 5croreon the purchase of laptops which he gave to his legalassistants.Singhviis assistedin his workby fourteen advocates and professionals. According toPatra,AbhishekSinghvihad to purchase 1250 laptops, each ofRs 40, 000 to account for the amount he had claimed to have spent.Further,he said thatSinghvispentabout Rs 36croreonthepurchase of solar panels forthecompanyhe owned,whereas the seller of the solar panels agreed in front of IT authoritiesthatRs 10crorehad been repaid tothe sons ofAbhishekSinghviasa loan.

Keeping in mind the above facts and statements,it becomes controversial whether the claims ofAbhishekManuSinghviarecorrectornot.However, most of the commissions statements contradict the claims ofSinghvi.Additionally, the presence of certain loopholes inSinghvi'sclaimsmay serve as the proof thatAbhishekManuSinghvihas set out these claims to exempt from the taxes.
