when his ship, the Glenearn, was requisitioned by the Admiralty as an auxiliary cruiser.
Awarded MBE for services at the evacuation of Crete. Transferred to Prince Baudouin, in
which he carried American Rangers to France on D-Day, and took part in the landings in the
south of France. Transferred to Pacific on the Glenearn, where he met his death (April
1945), following a fire on board, by being caught in an explosion when he went down to shut
off the petrol tanks. Buried at Lae, New Guinea

"On 26/8/44, Sergeant Colvan and his party were ordered to do an important bridge
reconnaissance near Cagli (Italy). The demolition was thought to be mined, and Sergeant
Colvan went forward himself for the preliminary inspection. During this he stepped on a Schu
mine resulting in a leg being blown off. His courage and cheerfulness whilst awaiting
removal to hospital showed the finest example to his men" (citation). Discharged 31/5/45.

of the camp. Sent to Far East just before the collapse of Japan. Has since served in Malaya
and Burma. Mentioned in Despatches for work with B.L.A. in France, and received O.B.E.,
for work in Belsen.

which attacked two small enemy vessels in August, 1945. In spite of intense and accurate

level.....Both vessels were set on fire. The Sunderland was hit by the enemy's bullets and

Bordeaux. Launched in five "cockles" from submarine Tuna to entrance to Gironde estuary,
7/12/42. Sailed 50 miles to Bordeaux, attached "limpet" mines to enemy ships, destroyed
three certainly, and probably five. One officer and one marine returned safely. Lieut.
McKinnon is known to have been captured, and is buried at Banegux Cemetery, near Paris

Awarded M.C. for conspicuous service in Burma. The citation states " On 16/3/45 Lieut.
Urquhart was in command of a platoon of a company whose task was the capture of the
village of Mithwedaik…. The supporting tanks were held up by a road block covered by anti-
tank guns...Under heavy fire Lieut. Urquhart led his men across the open, closed with the
enemy, and over-ran the anti-tank guns. The village was by now in flames and the heat was
exploding mines and booby traps, but Lieut. Urquhart again pressed on, and succeeded in
clearing the village, capturing two 75mm. guns and killing many Japanese.
