    ABE Diploma at B&B Accepted for Entry to UWI!The University of theWest Indies has decidedthat persons who com-plete the ABE Level IVDiploma at B&B qualiffor entry to their man-agement degree.This means that stu-dents who complete theABE course at B&B canqualify for entry intoUWI within one yearafter leaving 5th Form .This decision comple-ments earlier ones togrant entry to UWI forholders of Diploma LevV and the accreditation by the UCJ of Diploma

    The ABE Level IV Diplo-ma in Business Manage-ment is a post-CXC quali-fication in business that isset at the same stand-ard as the CAPE or A

    Level exams. Studentsmust have three CXC sub- jects to enter this pro-gramme. It comprisesfour courses andlasts for 9 months

    Level IV, then on to aUWI, HWU or UTechdegree. This means thatthe time-span to get a de-gree may be as little asfour years for personswith 3 CXCs. This com-pares to the traditionalroute in Jamaica of CXCto CAPE to UTech/UWI,

    The ABE Level V Diplomasin Business Administrationand Tourism and HospitalityManagement have receivedaccreditation from the Uni-versity Council of Jamaica.This means that holders of the ABE Diploma Level Vreceive exemptions fromselected degree courses atover 60 universities world-wide, including the Heriot-Watt University Manage-ment Degree Programmeavailable at B&B.

    Level V graduates will be

    HWU Degree OptionsAvailable at B&B

    B&B offers several HWUdegree options such as the BAin Management & Psycholo-gy; Travel & Tourism; Ac-counting; Business & Finance.

    Each degree option comprisestwelve modules in three stag-es. Each module lasts for fivemonths and starts in July or January each year. ABE Di-

    ploma Level IV holders quali-fy to enter into Stage I of theHWU programme and wouldtake three years to completethe degree.

    Specially designed interac-tive and text based coursematerials have been devel-oped. The textbook

    course materials provideinformation on:

    Expected learning out-comes;

    Subjects to be studied;and

    Self-test questions, prac-tice and tutorial ques-tions with solutions.

    The course texts containall of the required contenttogether with self-assessment exercises. The

    course texts have beendesigned to provide a pro-gressive learning experi-ence through sequentialmodules which build uponthe information andknowledge learnt in previ-ous modules of thecourse. The materials as-sume a zero-baseknowledge of the subject.

    There is no formal re-quirement for additionalreading; however, someof the courses do contain a

    reading list, which may beuseful to students wishingto deepen their under-standing of the subject.The course texts form thecore resource for studentsand the teaching pro-gramme should be builtaround the course contentas provided in the texts.

    Students have access to theABE website providingonline learning resourcesdeveloped by ABE. Theseinclude past examinationpapers and solutions, ex-am tips, student guides,

    As at February 1 2013, thereare two cost options for theABE Diploma Level IV

    Option 1: All-inclusive payonce fee of $25,000.00 perterm for two years (3 termsin a year). Persons choosingthis option would completethe programme in two years.Please note that the fee for the second year is not guaranteed and may beincreased at the end of the first year.

    Option II: All-inclusive pay

    once fee of $50,000.00 perterm for one year(3 terms p/year).

    Persons choosing this optionwould complete the pro-gramme in one year.

    The fee to B&B is payable in

    three equal instalments thatare due at the start of eachterm, the terms being Sep-Dec; Jan-Mar; & April-Jun.

    Students will be charged apenalty fee of 5% per monthfor late payments and willnot be entered as examina-tion candidates if they fail topay the required fees by thestipulated deadlines.

    Conditions of Enrolment The offering of courses will require B&B to enter into commitments for future expenses for the period of the programm

    at satisfying possible student needs. Registration for such courses followed by attendance at or participation in classes wfore be taken as an implicit agreement of the student to remain in the programme for the duration of the period so as to the Institute to meet these commitments entered into on their behalf, and will be interpreted as the provision of an instruto the Institution to establish these commitments.

    Cancellation of Courses The withdrawal of the student from the programme will jeopardize the ability of the Institution to meet these commitmein so doing negatively affect its relationship with other students. As such, withdrawal will only be allowed upon the provthe Programme Coordinator of a satisfactory explanation of the reason for withdrawal, and the acceptance of such. Vericases of financial difficulty, family/personal problems, health issues, work-related difficulties, and poor academic perfowill be accepted as valid reasons for withdrawal. Other cases will be subject to deliberation before acceptance. Once thedrawal is accepted, the withdrawal procedure will then follow the established guidelines of the Awarding Body offeringqualification (if applicable). The student will have the right to present his/her case to the Awarding Body for a binding

    nation to be made in the event that B&B refuses to accept the reasons for withdrawal. Students are hereby advised that tregistration for courses and the subsequent attendance at or participation in classes will give B&B Institute the right to hcourse by any means necessary for expenses suffered, up to the amount of the commitment that was made based on the standing that they would remain in the course. This right may be waived based on the joint agreement of the Programmdinator and Executive Director/Principal of B&B. The right will also be waived if withdrawal is made before tuition beg

    Refunds Students who withdraw from a programme before instruction begins will be refunded the full amount of all sums paid toInstitution, with the exception of the applicable registration fee. Refunds for students who withdraw from a programmstudy after instruction begins and up to one month after the start of the programme are subject to the joint agreement of Programme Coordinator and the Executive Director/Principal of B&B Institute. If the refund is granted, a portion of feewill be withheld to cover expenses suffered up to the date of withdrawal. The same policy of partial refund upon joint ment of the validity of the same and acceptance of such will be applicable to students who register for a course but do ntend/participate in classes. Refunds will not be given for requests for withdrawals made more than one month after tuitio begun.

    Availability of Courses The Institute reserves the right to postpone or cancel any of its advertised courses for reasons such as the unavailability turer/tutor or a lack of sufficient student numbers. In this event, B&B Institute of Business will refund all fees already pwards the withdrawn course.
