Volume II/29 „Molecular Constants Mostly from Microwave, Molecular Beam, and Sub-Doppler Laser Spectroscopy“ is planned to appear as a series A, B, C and D1, D2, D3 for the diamagnetic, and E for the paramagnetic linear and polyatomic species, respectively. Like in the preceding volumes II/24 and II/19, which have appeared in the years around 1999 and 1992, respectively, the diamagnetic substances are arranged in the manner suggested by Hill („Hill‘s system“, 1900), meaning an almost strict alphabetical order. The ionic species are included in the alphabetical arrangement of the neutral ones in each table. The information is grouped differently in comparison with the previous volumes. All relevant properties of a molecule and the corresponding parameters can be found concentrated under its sum formula in volume II/29. This diminishes the need of turning pages because rotational and related constants, dipole moments, barriers to internal rotation, hyperfine coupling parameters, or Zeeman data were hitherto listed in different tables. The present subvolume II/29B contains data for linear molecules.

The first edition of this book was concentrated on turbomachinery flow physics, design, off-design and nonlinear dynamics performance. As I mentioned in the preface to the first edition, in dealing with three-dimensional turbulent flows through a turbomachinery component, for the reasons I outlined, I refrained from presenting a multitude of existing turbulence models. In the meantime, only a few of those models have survived exhibiting the standard working tools implemented in almost all computational tools dealing with turbomachinery flow simulations. Experienced turbomachinery aerodynamicist knowledgeable of the underlying physics of the models in existing commercial codes is able to appropriately interpret the results. Without this knowledge, however, the user of commercial codes may tend to uncritically accept computational results as infallible. This issue has been addressed in the current second edition. While maintaining the unifying character of the book structure in this second revised and extended edition all chapters have undergone a rigorous update and enhancement. Accounting for the need of the turbomachinery community, three chapters have been added, that deal with computationally relevant aspects of turbomachinery design such as boundary layer transition, turbulence and boundary layer. With this second edition, the readers have a solid source of information for designing state-of-the art turbomachinery components and systems at hand.

This is the first book of robotics presenting solutions of coupled, decoupled, uncoupled, fully-isotropic and maximally regular translational parallel robotic manipulators systematically generated by using the structural synthesis approach proposed in Part 1. Non-redundant/redundant, overconstrained/isostatic solutions with simple/complex limbs actuated by linear/rotary actuators with/without idle mobilities are proposed. Cardiovascular vortex formation is first analyzed in physiological, healthy conditions in the heart chambers and in the large arterial vessels. The analysis is initially presented with an intuitive appeal grounded on the physical phenomena and a focus on its clinical significance.In the proceeding chapters, the knowledge gained from either clinical or basic science literature will be discussed. The corresponding mathematical elements will finally be presented to ensure the adequate diligence. The proceeding chapters ensue to the analysis of pathological conditions, when the reader may have developed the ability to recognize normal from abnormal vortex formation phenomenon. Pathological vortex formation represents vortices that develop at sites where normally laminar flow should exist, e.g. stenosis and aneurisms. This analysis naturally leads to the interaction of vortices due to the surgical procedures with respect to prediction of changes in vortex formation. The existing techniques, from medical imaging to numerical simulations, to explore vortex flows in the cardiovascular systems will also be described. The presentations are accompanied by the mathematical definitions can that be understandable for reader without the advanced mathematical background, while an interested reader with more advanced knowledge in mathematics can be referred to references for further quantitative analyses. The book pursues the objective to transfer the fundamental vortex formation phenomena with application to the cardiovascular system to the reader. This book will be a valuable support for physicians in the evaluation of vortex influence on diagnosis and therapeutic choices. At the same time, the book will provide the rigorous information for research scientists, either from medicine and mechanics, working on the cardiovascular circulation incurring with the physics of vortex dynamics.

Recently the CXCR4/CXCL12-axis has been recognized as one of the pivotal adhesion pathways by which hematopoietic stem cells are retained in the bone marrow. CXCR4 antagonists with different chemical specification are being developed. Pharmacology research guides the way to the rational development effective antagonists. One antagonist, plerixafor, is clinically approved now for stem cell mobilization of lymphoma and myeloma patients. This allows patients to receive potentially life-saving treatment which could not have been administered otherwise. Through early clinical studies it was recognized that CXCR4 antagonists also mobilize malignant hematopoetic cells, i.e. leukemia cells. In preclinical studies a sensitization of mobilized leukemic cells to standard cytotoxic chemotherapy could be shown. Clinical studies are under way. CXCR4 antagonists are an exciting new class of compounds which are also employed for the mobilization of angiogenic cells or for the treatment of solid tumors.
