Information: Our kiddos know the Christmas story backward and forward. They hear it at home, church, and in books. In
the past few years, we've done the basic Christmas activities and advent calendars. They can tell about Mary
and Joseph. They can explain that Jesus was born in a manger. They can even announce who visited the new
family.
As I am growing in my understanding of who Jesus is, I realize that it isn't enough to be able to regurgitate the
Christmas story. Or any story from the Bible. I don't want our children to simply know the facts.
I want them to know the Savior.
So in pondering what to do the month of December to help them understand a little more about the King who
came as a baby, I came up with an unconventional idea. I took what my kids love - Legos - and combined it
with who I desire them to fall in love with - Jesus. And in a way only the Holy Spirit could bring it together, I
present the Lego Christmas Activity Workbook.
Objective:
To daily focus on a characteristic of Jesus so that our children better understand who Jesus is and how He
desires to be a personal Savior to each one of us. Second, for our children to understand how remarkable it is
that Jesus chose to come as a baby to save us. Last, to create traditions that draw our family together. And
most importantly, the goal of every activity is to “impress” Christ on our children (Deuteronomy 6:7).
Supplies:
1. Duplo Legos to create a Christmas tree. The Christmas tree gives a visual picture of the characteristics of
Jesus and also serves as a countdown to Christmas day. Any sized block, mega-block, or Lego would work as
well. The final page of this Workbook contains several non-Lego and simplified ideas that users have shared
with me on Facebook.
2. This ABC Jesus Loves Me Lego Christmas Activity Workbook. Print the workbook or use online as a PDF.
3. The ABCJLM Christmas Worksheets. Available at the end of this workbook or each worksheet is linked in
the book to print individually online.
3. Dry Erase Marker to write on the Legos. Or use permanent markers to build the tree for many years to
come.
4. Supplies to do the daily activities. This workbook will explain what is needed for each activity. Fill free to
supplement with items already available in your home.

Instructions:
This workbook will explain exactly what to do each day beginning on December 1st. The activity will include
adding a Lego to create a Christmas tree. You will also discuss the character of Jesus, read the scripture, and
do an activity together. These activities range from coloring a worksheet to singing a Christmas song, baking
goodies to playing a game. All worksheets and ideas are explained in this printable. Each idea can easily be
exchanged for another one that better suits your family and traditions. As the age of your children increases,
so can the depth of activities and discussion.
I have purposely not included the scripture verses in the workbook as I feel it is very important for children to
see adults reading straight from the Bible. If the child is able, ask him or her to read some of the scriptures. I
also encourage you to read from multiple versions including those which are geared toward children.
Depending on the age of your child, some of these verses and concepts will be difficult to grasp. That is okay
and expected! Don’t assume understanding for each characteristic of Jesus. Remember that you are laying a
foundation of truth. The ideas under each Scripture are to help the adult better understand the verse and
characteristic of Jesus. These are not meant to be read to the child. Use the information to make it age
appropriate for your child.

Lego Christmas Tree There isn’t a day go by that our children don’t play with Legos. Using this love, I created a Lego Christmas tree to help
our kiddos learn about Jesus. As only the Holy Spirit could lead, the Christmas tree ended up with 25 pieces. Exactly
what was needed to add a Lego a day.
Using the diagram below, each day add the corresponding numbered Lego to the tree. The star will be the final Lego to
add. Use a yellow flower or yellow block for this addition. Fill free to add the brown base at any time. On the ABC
Jesus Loves Me Facebook Group, Elizabeth shared the idea of wrapping and/or hiding the block each day for the kids to
find it. Love this!
To create this tree you will need a minimum of 25 blocks (26 if you want to add the brown base). Because we have
several sets of Duplo Legos, I was able to create a green and red tree. Use what you have and make the tree whatever
colors you desire. Each block on the tables below represents one pair of “studs” on a Lego piece. The stud is the bump
at the top of the Lego to make it stick together. I used an eight stud Lego for block #1. This means that the Lego is made
up of two rows of four bumps each. (If you aren’t sure, ask your kids. They will know.)
Fill free to change the combination of Legos to use what you currently own. For example…use two 4 stud Lego pieces in
place of one 8 stud Lego piece. Or, use two thin Legos to create one regular sized Lego. You can see on the cover photo
of this workbook that I changed the combination from what is suggested in the table. (Notice the “Friend” and
“Shepherd” blocks.) Other sized Legos or regular blocks could also be used. You could even make this life-sized with
covered Kleenex boxes.
To add to the understanding of Jesus, I encourage you to write on the blocks with a dry erase or permanent
marker the characteristic of Jesus that you are focusing on and the number on the backside. Day 24 tops the
Christmas tree with the name of Jesus. A yellow block (or flower) completes the tree.

Day 1 – Jesus is Immanuel Scripture: Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23
The Old Testament foretold 700 years prior to Jesus' birth that He would be born. Showing the fulfillment of Scripture,
the verse is repeated in Matthew 1. Immanuel means “God with us.”
Activity: Begin the “"Happy Birthday, Jesus” Book by coloring the cover. Explain to the child that he
or she will be creating a book about Jesus this month. (page 19)
Choose the first Lego for the Christmas tree. With a dry erase marker, write the name “Immanuel”
on it.
Day 2 - Jesus is Counselor Scripture: Isaiah 9:6-7
Again this verse is foretelling the coming King. Jesus wants to provide us with personal counsel and help. We can come
to Jesus with any problem.
Activity: Pop popcorn and watch What's In The Bible? Why Do We Call it Christmas? or another holiday favorite.
Choose a second Lego and write the name “Counselor” on it. Set the first two Legos side by side.
Day 3 –Jesus is Mighty God Scripture: Isaiah 9:6-7
Mighty God means that Jesus has unlimited power.
Activity: Color “Journey to Bethlehem” for the “Happy Birthday Jesus” Book. Discuss how it seemed impossible for Mary to have a baby. It even seemed impossible for Mary to travel to Bethlehem with Joseph but we serve a Savior with unlimited power. (page 20) Choose a third Lego and write the name “Mighty God” on it. Set the first three Legos side by side. Optional: Sing “My God is so Big.” (Thank you to Jeanelle for sharing this idea.)
Day 4 - Jesus is Lord Scripture: Romans 10:9
Lord is “someone who has power, authority, or influence; a master or ruler.”
Activity: Sing "Away in a Manger." Discuss how in this song, even as a baby, Jesus is called Lord.
Away in a manger (rock baby in your arms)
No crib for a bed (shake head "no")

The little Lord Jesus (point up)
Laid down His sweet head (place hands beside head to "sleep")
The stars in the sky (flick fingers in the air)
Looked down where He lay (place hand on forehead and "look")
The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay (place hands beside head to "sleep")
Continue each day adding the next Lego and writing the characteristic of Jesus on it.
Day 5 – Jesus is the Son of God Scripture: Luke 1:35, John 1:34
In Luke, the angel is telling Mary that she will give birth to a son. In John, John the Baptist declares Jesus as God’s
Chosen One or the Son of God.
Activity: Read a Christmas book. We have complied a list of Christmas books which readers have shared with us and
those books which are our family favorites. Here are a few of our top choices:
The Sparkle Box: A Gift with the Power to Change Christmas by Jill Hardie
Snowmen at Night by Caralyn Buehner
The Tale of Three Trees by Angela Elwell Hunt
God Gave Us Christmas by Lisa Tawn Bergren
The Perfect Christmas Pageant (Everyday Zoo) by Joyce Meyer
Christmas Cookies: Bite-Size Holiday Lessons by Amy Krouse Rosenthal
The entire list of Christmas books can be seen at http://www.ouroutofsynclife.com/2013/11/a-countdown-to-christmas-
book-list.html
Day 6 – Jesus is Christ Scripture: Luke 2:11
Christ means “anointed” or “anointed one.” It is used interchangeably with “Messiah.” In the Bible time kings, high
priests, and some prophets were anointed. This was similar to crowning a king or inaugurating an official. (Wikipedia.org)
Activity: Create a play dough nativity scene. Use your imagination to form the figures to
demonstrate “…in a town of David a Savior has been born to you; who is Christ the Lord.” The
side image shows one possibility.
Day 7 – Jesus is Savior Scripture: Matthew 1:21
A savior is a person who saves. Discuss why we need to be saved and how Jesus’ birth was just the beginning of this
ABC Jesus Loves Me Lego Christmas Activity Workbook Page 11

salvation.
Activity: Salvation comes through the blood of Jesus. His blood on the wooden cross. Do a Christmas tree craft. Two
possible crafts are listed.
- Decorate
the Christmas Tree
Poster. Use craft
decorating supplies -
sequins, pompoms,
glitter, stickers, etc.
(page 21)
- Christmas Trees (Idea from Little Sprouts)
Using craft scissors, cut the craft sticks to
the size needed. Then glue them
together with a hot glue gun and
paint. Decorate and glue a piece of string
on the back of the ornament to hang.
Day 8 - Jesus is the Way Scripture: John 14:6-7
Jesus is saying that He is the only way for us (sinners) to approach God the Father in Heaven.
Activities: Color “Baby Jesus with the Animals” and add it to the “Happy Birthday Jesus”
book. By Jesus coming as a baby, we were provided a way to Heaven. (page 22)
Day 9 - Jesus is the Truth Scripture: John 14:6-7
Jesus is the true way to eternal life. He is the source of truth and what He says is fact. “To know the truth is also to
know the Way of God” (Biblehub.com).
Activity: Create a Christmas Star as a reminder of the star that shined brightly over the manger signifying Jesus was
there. Here are two possibilities.
• Macaroni Star - Place a few
macaroni noodles in a zip-top
plastic bag. Add couple of drops of
vinegar and 4-5 drops of food
coloring. Mix to distribute the
color. Dye more macaroni in
separate bags. Open the top of the bag and let
dry. Using the Star Template, place a thin layer of glue
on the paper. Add the colored macaroni to create a
colorful macaroni star. (page 23)
• Create a Christmas Star - Cut out
the stars on cardstock paper and
decorate. Cut on the dotted
lines. Slide the cut portion of one
star over the cut portion of the
other to make a 3D Star. Add a
string to hang. (page 24)

Day 10 - Jesus is the Life Scripture: John 14:6-7
Jesus is the source of eternal life which cannot be earned or purchased. Eternal life only comes by the death, burial, and
resurrection of Jesus.
Activities: To some Native American Indians, the handprint symbolized human life. Make a Handprint
Craft as a reminder the Jesus is the source of eternal life. Choose one of the handprint crafts from the
ABCJLM website. This Christmas tree image is one option. These crafts make wonderful Christmas
presents. See the options here - http://abcjesuslovesme.com/holiday-ideas/409-handprint-and-
footprint-calendar
Day 11 - Jesus is Peace Scripture: Isaiah 9:6-7; Philippians 4:6-7
Having peace is understanding that we don’t have to worry about anything; instead, as the verse says, we can pray
about it.
Activity: Sing “Silent Night” and discuss how a baby sleeps peacefully.
Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon virgin, mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.
Day 12 - Jesus is Love Scripture: John 14:21
For the best understanding of what love is, read I Corinthians 13:4-8.
Activity: Color “John 3:16 at Christmas” and add it to the “Happy Birthday Jesus” book.
Discuss what this verse means at Christmas time. (page 25)
Don’t forget to add the 12th Lego.
Day 13 - Jesus is Joy Scripture: John 15:11
Joy means rejoicing and gladness. It is not happiness due to our circumstances but it is constant state of gladness

because of Jesus living in our lives. It is confidence that God is Sovereign. Joy occurs when we choose to praise God no
matter what situation we face.
Activity: Make Cinnamon Heart Ornaments. Distribute these ornaments and discuss that
because of the joy Jesus gives us, we desire to give to others.
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon ground cloves
3 tablespoons white glue
2/3 cup applesauce (cinnamon applesauce works too)
1 cup of cinnamon
Directions: Combine ingredients in a bowl. Stir ingredients until they form a soft ball. If the dough is too dry, add more
applesauce. If the dough is too wet, add more cinnamon. Dust a flat surface with cinnamon. Roll out the dough with a
rolling pin or press with your fingers to approximately 1/4" thick. Rolling the dough too thin makes the ornaments
brittle. Thick ornaments take longer to dry. Use a cookie cutter to create your shapes. To make the letter shapes or
imprints (as pictured above), push a straw or cookie cutter approximately half way into the dough. Poke a straw through
the dough to create a hole for a string. Let the ornaments dry on a baking rack. Depending on thickness, this will take at
least 24 hours. For quicker results, place the ornaments in a dehydrator or a 150 degree oven (gently flipping every
hour) until done. When dry, string a ribbon through the hole for hanging. You can add other decorations with glitter
glue, sequins, buttons, etc. 1/3 of the recipe made the three ornaments pictures above.
Day 14 - Jesus is Hope Scripture: Romans 15:13
"We have lasting hope through the salvation we have in Christ ... Hope means that even when it looks like it's all over, it's
not all over yet. That's why the Bible says we can rejoice even in our tribulations. God is working in our hard times to
produce proven character and hope in us." -Dr. Tony Evans, Totally Saved
Activity: Sing “The First Noel.” Discuss how we have hope because the King of Israel was born on the first noel (the first
Christmas).
The First Noel, the Angels did say
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay
In fields where they lay keeping their sheep
On a cold winter's night that was so deep.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel
Born is the King of Israel!

Day 15 - Jesus is Light Scripture: John 8:12, John 12:46
We don’t have to walk through this life blindly for Jesus will light our way.
Activity: Put on pajamas, warm up some hot cocoa, and drive around looking at Christmas lights. Discuss how light can
be seen from a long distance away and how it illuminates all around it.
Day 16 - Jesus is a Servant Scripture: Mark 10:45, Philippians 2:7
Jesus came to serve others, not to be served.
Activities: Make some goodies to giveaway. (Tomorrow you will deliver these items.)
Chocolate Pretzel Bites is one idea but the Our Out-of-Sync Life blog contains several
other recipes.
Ingredients:
Pretzels - I used the twist pretzels but you would use the round or square ones as well.
Hershey Kisses - Any kisses (except for the almond filled) should work.
M&M - Regular or Peanut Butter
Directions:
On a cookie sheet, lay out several pretzels. Unwrap the kisses and place one in the center of each pretzel. (Unwrapping
candy is an excellent fine-motor activity for kids!) Carefully place the pan into a pre-heated 225 degree oven for four
minutes or until the kisses are soft enough to easily press down. Pull the pan out of the oven and immediately press an
M&M into the center of each kiss with the "M" showing on the top. Place the pan into the refrigerator for a few
minutes for the chocolate to set. Store in a tight container at room temperature.
When ready to package, place a few in a ziptop bag and add this poem to the goodie bag. Printables for this poem fill
the internet. Find and print your favorite here. (Out of respect for the author, be sure that you include the author's name
with the poem.)
M&M Christmas Story
As you hold these candies in your hand and turn them, you will see....
The M becomes a W, an E, and then a 3.
They tell the Christmas story it's one I'm sure you know.
It took place in a stable a long, long time ago.
The E is for the East where the star shone oh so bright.
The M is for the Manger where the baby Jesus slept that night.
The 3 is for the Wiseman bearing gifts, they say they came.

W is for Worship, Hallelujah
Praise to His name.
So as you eat these candies or share them with a friend,
Remember the meaning of Christmas, it's a love story that never ends
Merry Christmas
Written by Pam Ridenour
Day 17 - Jesus is Kind Scripture: Matthew 7:12
Jesus blessed and helped those around Him. We are reminded in this verse that we are to treat others as we would like
to be treated.
Activity: Deliver your goody bags to a neighbor. Discuss how you are showing kindness.
Day 18 - Jesus is Patient Scripture: 2 Peter 3:9
Jesus is patient with us, even when we make the same mistake over and over.
Activity: Play a game as a family and discuss patience on waiting your turn. One possible game is the Nativity Memory
Game.
Directions: Purchase or use a nativity set with individual pieces. Place the pieces on a table and have the children close
her eyes. Remove one of the pieces and have the child figure out which piece is missing. After the missing piece is
discovered, talk about its significance in the Nativity. For instance, if you take away a shepherd, explain to the child how
an angel appeared to the shepherds in the field to tell of Jesus' birth. (Reprinted by Permission)
Day 19 - Jesus is my Friend
Scripture: John 15:13-15
In the Bible, Jesus calls us His friend. He shows He is our friend because He laid down His life for us.
Activity: Color the “Shepherds Worship Jesus” and add it to the “Happy Birthday Jesus” book. (page
26)
Don’t forget to add the 19th Lego.
ABC Jesus Loves Me Lego Christmas Activity Workbook Page 16

Day 20 - Jesus is my Rock Scripture: Psalm 18:2
Jesus is my rock, protector, and my deliverer. Because of this, we can worship (adore) Him.
Activity: Sing "O Come All Ye Faithful."
O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye, to Bethlehem.
Come and behold Him, born the King of angels;
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.
Day 21 - Jesus is my Shepherd Scripture: John 10:1-16, Psalm 23
Jesus laid down His life for His sheep (us) and He protects us like a shepherd.
Activity: A candy cane is often compared to a shepherd’s staff. Paint the “Candy Cane” printable in a
red and white pattern and discuss the significance of the Candy Cane. For a hands-on activity, twist a
red and white pipecleaner and bend the top of a staff. Hang it on the Christmas tree. (page 27)
Day 22 - Jesus is my Teacher Scripture: John 3:2
God sent Jesus to the world to be our teacher.
Activity: Color the “Wise Men Worship Jesus” and add it to the “Happy Birthday Jesus” book. Even
though the wise men were very wise, they understood that they needed Jesus to teach them. (page
28)
Don’t forget to add the 22nd Lego.
Day 23 - Jesus is my Salvation Scripture: Acts 4:12
Salvation is found in no one else, expect in Jesus.

Activity: Make a "Happy Birthday Jesus" Cake for Jesus and discuss the symbolism. More cake
ideas available on the ABCJLM website.
Ingredients:
3 layered round cake - red, green, and chocolate layers
White frosting
Yellow frosting
Candles
To make the colored layers - mix a white cake according to the box/recipe directions. Divide the batter in half. Drop
several drops of green food coloring in one half, and red food coloring in the other half. Pour each into 8" round cake
pans and bake according to recipe directions. Also make an 8” round chocolate cake.
When cooled, stack the chocolate layer, red layer in the middle, ending with the green layer with white frosting in
between. Frost the entire cake with white frosting. Add yellow decorations and candles to the top.
Symbolism:
The chocolate layer reminds us that are heart is full of sin.
The red layer reminds us that Jesus shed His blood for our sins.
The white frosting reminds us that Jesus will forgive our sins and give us a clean heart.
The green layer reminds us to grow in Christ through praying, reading the Bible, and worshipping.
The yellow decorations remind us of heaven.
The candles remind us Jesus is the Light of the world.
Day 24 - Jesus Scripture: Luke 1:26-38, 2:1-20
Luke 1:31 “You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.”
Activity: Act out the Christmas Action Story using this script. (Author Unknown)
Read the following story pausing after reading the italicized words. Have the child do the following actions when the
specific words are spoken:
Angels - wave arms like angel wings.
Mary - place hands together and place under the chin as in praying
Joseph - show muscles
Baby & Jesus - hold arms and rock back and forth
People had been waiting for a very long time. As a matter of fact, people had been waiting since the first man and
woman had to leave God's special garden because they disobeyed. They were waiting for God to keep His promise to
send them a Savior.

One day an angel spoke to a girl named Mary and told her she was going to have a baby. Then the angel spoke to a man
named Joseph, who was going to be Mary's husband. The angel told Joseph that Mary's baby was special. He was God's
son, Jesus!
While Mary and Joseph were waiting for Jesus to be born, they had to go on a long trip. The ruler of the land had made
a law that people had to go to their hometowns and write their names in a special book so that leaders could count how
many people there were. So Mary and Joseph had to travel to Bethlehem to be counted. They had to walk all the way!
Finally, they arrived in Bethlehem. Mary was ready to have her baby. But Bethlehem was so crowded that they couldn't
find a place to stay! Everywhere they went they were told, "There is no room!" Finally, a kind innkeeper said they could
stay in his stable. And just in time, too! That night Jesus was born! Mary wrapped the baby with pieces of cloth and laid
him in a manger to sleep. All of the angels joined in and said, "Glory to God! Peace on earth to those who love God!"
Day 25 - Jesus is King Scripture: Matthew 2:2
The wise men followed the star to worship Jesus the King.
Activity: Be Wise Men – Print and cut out the star printable. Without the child watching, hide
the stars around the room. Tell the child that he or she is to be like the Wise Men and find the
star that led them to Baby Jesus. Help the child dress the part with a robe and a towel around
his or her head (use a belt, safety pin, or robe to hold the towel on). (page 29)
Add the final yellow Lego to complete the Christmas tree.

Cut out the stars on cardstock paper and decorate.
Cut on the dotted lines. Slide the cut portion of one star over the cut
portion of the other to make a 3D Star. Add a string to hang.
Discuss that stars reminded Abraham to be patient and wait on God to
fulfill His promises.

Look at the Candy Cane,
what do you see?
Stripes that are red
like the blood shed for me.
White is for my Savior
Who's sinless and pure!
"J" is for Jesus My Lord,
that's for sure!
Turn it around
and a staff you will see
Jesus my shepherd
was born for Me!

Non-Lego and Simplified Ideas from Others:
1. Jamie shared the idea of using felt instead of Legos to create the Christmas tree. Ribbon created boxes and
individual felt pieces made the blocks. Thanks for sharing, Jamie!
2. Are you overwhelmed with 25 daily Advent activities? Gennah simplified the Lego Christmas Activity to be
done twice a week instead of daily. She shares, "This is how I am doing the Lego activity. 8 "layers", covering a new
one every Sunday and Wednesday night, with a few days of activities and discussion in between. I used clear tape
around each layer and wrote with a paint marker. [Simplifying allows for] more review." ...and less stress!
This would also be perfect for those who meant to begin but time has gotten away or from a church group. Simple
choose any 8 characteristics of Christ to cover.

3. Beth shared the idea of creating a manger and adding paper "hay" each day with the characteristic of Jesus
written on each piece. On the last day add the baby. This is similar to the Baby Bed for Jesus activity.
4. Love the simplicity of a poster board and rectangles with the characteristics of Jesus written on them. Each
day add the next block. Thank you to Erin for sharing this.
