New Research ProgramThe Center for Disruptive Musculoskeletal Innovations (CDMI)
• Received planning grant to establish an NSF Industry/University Collaborative Research Center (I/UCRC).• The Center for Disruptive Musculoskeletal Innovations (CDMI) will bridge three academic sites (UCSF, UCB, U Toledo) and focus on innovations that both reduce cost and improve quality in musculoskeletal care.• The CDMI will support graduate student research via a $450k annual budget contributed by industry partners.

Orthopaedic Institute• New programs at the Orthopaedic Institute include Skeletal
Health and Bay Area Concussion and Brain Injury Clinics.
• Expansion to 5000 SF on the 4th floor of the Orthopaedic Institute with (8) clinic exam rooms, (2) diagnostic radiology rooms and a DxA room.
• Patient visits continue to rise by 21% in total for 2011 and 2012.
Orthopaedic Trauma InstituteGrants• 16 Sponsored Grants, $1,033,206• 22 Foundation Grants, $402,6727th Annual Trauma Course• 460 Attendees• 42 States represented• 8 Countries representedSurgical Training Facility• 577 sponsored industry courses, over 8,200 surgeon/industry attendees since inception in

Playsafe Program: • Provide services to 20 High Schools / (approx.) 20,000 students• Since 2006:
•4700+ Athlete injuries evaluated by PlaySafe ATC Staff•21700+ Athletes received treatment or care by PlaySafe ATC Staff•2100+ Athletes received a sports physical screening from PlaySafe MDs.•Able to provide ImPACT Concussion testing to HS athletes.
Runsafe Program: • More than 1400 runners in database• Centers at UCSF, Stanford and California Sports and Harvard• Start-up company “SPORTZPEAK” delivering “sports wellness” to runners • Dr. Luke at Dreamforce during UCSF Unusual Thinkers Track
Marathon Support: UCSF Sports Medicine leads large volunteer medical teams for 7 Bay Area races including the San Francisco Marathon, the Rock and Roll ½ Marathon (San Francisco andSan Jose) and Escape from Alcatraz.
