Large disabled bathroom with sit down shower but no bath. The room itself is large, with a double bed and a single bed. It is on the groundfloor, so suitable for elderly, and very close to the Conservatory, so again, convenient for a disabled person to get from the Conservatory to adisabled friendly loo. However this room will be close to any noise if you have your evening 'do' in the Conservatory.

Room AB12 is on the ground floor. It is a disabled room with showeren-suite, that you can sit down in - or, use the shower curtain to makeit a stand-up shower.

There is a third bed (not shown in pictures) which is squeezed into acorner - making the room useable as either a twin for two, or as atriple.

The single bed is suitable for children or a younger person as it canonly be accessed from the bottom end of the bed.

AB12 is quite a small room, and unfortunately the bathroom internalwalls were put in the wrong place, making the bathroom too largerelative to the space in the bedroom.

Shower doors also need to be kept closed to prevent slips throughwater going on the rest of the bathroom's tiled floor.

This is a family room that can sleep six - two in the double bedroom,two in the twin room, and two in the lounge room if the sofa bed ismade up.

This room is on the ground floor, close to the Conservatory.

The windows of the room face on to the road outside the castle,however the room is quiet at night as there is no traffic on the road atnight times. Also the walls are about three feet thick, hence no noise!

AB16 has a large master bedroom facing the front court yard, ashower en-suite in the middle, and at the back, a lounge with sofa bedthat can be converted into a small twin or double.

So this room sleeps up top four.

Some nice old victorian furniture in this room, especially in thebedroom. The master bedroom's bed is also quite wide.

AB18, 19, and 20 are BASIC double non en-suite rooms which share abasic bathroom with bath, shower and loo at the end of the corridor.These rooms are in need of refurbishment and not to the standard ofour en-suites, but are adequate for overflow accommodation or for afamily to share the rooms.

AB18 is nearest to the bathroom, and by closing the corridor door canbecome en-suite if there is no one in AB19 and 20.

Alternatively a family of 4 - 6 could take AB18, 19 and 20, and sharethe bathroom between the three rooms as a semi-ensuite for thefamily.

These 3 rooms are off an independent corridor accessed via a fire doorso are separate and self-contained.


No TV and No Telephone. Exception is AB18 & 19 each have a TV / DVD player with no TV reception, on which DVDs at least can be played.Either bring own DVD's or ask at Reception where we have a boxful of DVDs to choose from.

The bedroom itself is quite small and snug. The key feature in thisroom is the unusually extravagant bathroom!

The Gatehouse comprises four individual rooms including a lean-toannexe.

There is a master bedroom (bottom two pictures), a separate smalldouble room on the ground floor (shown middle row right - below), areasonably large lounge which can be made up into additional bedspace (shown middle row left) and a little annexe room with a verylow sloped ceiling which is a fun area but suitable for children only.

Capacity is 6 adults and two children - 8 in all.

It has the benefit of overlooking the main castle courtyard, having a view similar to AB27 of the clock tower and main castle.

It is also close to the Gatehouse should you wish to house guests in this room near to any guests in the gatehouse.

AB28 benefits from a large bathroom with a roll topped feature bath. It lacks a stand up shower, so this room is ideal for those who like along soak in the bath.

The loo has a lovely view over the courtyard and surrounding mountain scenery, though it's advisable to keep the curtains closed when takingyour comfort break. The bedroom has a sizeable wardrobe.

The Bridal Suite was once the chapel, and the bathroom was thevestry. One coloured glass window remains, and there are views fromthe bathoom (partially obscured by the Conservatory roof) of theCountry Park and mountains surrounding the castle.

The Bathroom is a bit of an extravagance, with gold clawed iron bathtub, a mozaic tiled golden shower, and character fittings and antiquefurniture.

AB31 was our first family room, originally intended for the owner's use. As the owner was not fussed about the bathroom, this room has avery small bathroom - it is a shower en-suite only. It is however a character room.

The accommodation area is large, on two levels, the upper loft level accessed via a narrow staircase.

On the loft level there is a double bed one end and twin beds at the opposite end. Lower level has a nice lounge area (sleeps two extra onsofa bed if required) with full Sky TV. However there is no full height wardrobe due to ceiling height limitations in the loft part (use hooks ondoors or the half height wardrobe!)


Old tyle large'ish TV with separate DVD player within Chinese style TVcabinet, independent SKY TV system, with movies package but notwith the sports channels. No phone.

Large Double Bedroom with interesting antique wardrobe, partial views over country park (obscured by conservatory roof) and basicbathroom en-suite with white bath.

The main benefit of this unmodernised room is its large size plus you have loads of space for folded clothes in the many drawers andcupboards of the large multi-drawered antique wardrobe cum chest. However the wardrobe section is not full height for clothes so youcannot hang long coats and dresses in it.

Theatre Ground Left (TGL) is behind thetheatre, with a glass door leading out on to thetheatre gardens and terrace.

There is a double bed and two lounge chairs ina sitting area in the bay window, making thisroom reasonably large.

Notice the glass windows in the internalpicture, then view the external shot of thecastle (left), where you can see the glasswindows on the right of the building.

(Top left pic = room before shower en-suitewent in, top right = room after en-suiteinstalled).

The main advantage of this area is the largeexpanse of garden area outside, which is littleused by other hotel guests.

If you have dogs, it is a convenient room to letdogs straight out on to the grass.This is a niceroom to have in the summer as you can stepstraight out of the room into the garden. Oftenyou can close the gates (during the week) andhave the garden all to yourself!

Also it is quiet, being well away from anyfunction room noise at a wedding and awayfrom the front courtyard where guests mightgather outside for a smoke and a chat.

There is a small shower en-suite, the showerbeing rather a fancy affair with lots ofmassaging jets. You will need to read the

This is one of a pair of en-suites at the back ofthe theatre. Extensive works to damp-proofthe walls and floor have been completed in thisroom, including redirecting surface waterdrains so this room is now snug and dry.

There is still continuing work in this area asslow refurbishment of rooms above and thecorridor takes place - the work generally beingdone only when this area is unoccupied.

Theatre Ground Right (TGR) is behind thetheatre, with a glass door leading out on to thetheatre gardens and terrace.

There is a double bed and a single bed,making this room useable as either a triple oras a twin as well as a standard double.

This is a small room, suitable for a one nightstay for a wedding and as somewhere to sleepafter a late event, but not recommended forlonger stays or holidaying B&B. It is currentlyoverdue for a complete refurb as part of theongoing renovation work on this end of thebuilding.

If you are looking for a room overlooking thegarden, TGL (Theatre Ground Left) is largerand more suitable.

TGL and TGR are nice rooms to have in thesummer as you can step straight out of theroom into the garden. TGR is a quiet room,being well away from any function room noiseand away from the front courtyard whereguests might gather outside for a smoke and achat.

So if you fancy an early night while attendingan event, you will be away from party noisehere.

There is a small shower en-suite, the showerbeing rather a fancy affair with lots ofmassaging jets. You will need to read theinstructions to see how to use it!

If you have dogs, this is a convenient room tolet the dogs out on to the grass.
