“Many people will walk in and walk out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints in
your heart”
With lots and lots expectations and sadness of not having our friends on the same campus, we
all started off on our trip to France for the summer program. We were 72 in all in which 21 students
were from EEE. The flight from Chennai to Mumbai and from Mumbai to Paris was fun as we were
seated with our friends. It was from the Paris Charles De Gaulle airport did our real experience start.
The students going to Paris, Lille and Nantes campus departed from the airport while we were left
there as we had to catch our next flight to Toulouse. To Toulouse, we were 18 students with 6 of us
from EEE with Mrs. Josephine who was our staff in-charge. It was a moment when thousands and
thousands of thoughts and questions filled our minds. I, personally, was very excited to reach
Toulouse to meet Adelaide, the French girl whom I hosted during my 3rd semester. The life in
Toulouse was something that will always remain fresh in our memory lane. Sleepovers, group
cooking, making new friends who became an integral part of our lives, gossips, the games made our
stay in the ICAM hostel a wonderful one. The college was equally fun. Having French classes in the
morning, I still remember us running along the pavement to reach the classes on time. Ms. Catherine
and Ms. Yang were our French tutors and they made our classes the best by involving us in various
activities. One of it was making a typical French food - ‘The oeuf mimosa’.

In the afternoon, we had the project hours during which we were guided by the staff and the students
of ICAM. Our project was to make an “M & M Sorting Machines” that sorts the M & M chocolates
according to its color and places them in different glasses. For this project, we learned a new
software ‘Catia’ that is used to design the parts. The designed parts were realized using a 3D printer
and the control system of the device was programmed using an Arduino. Thus, this project helped us
gain knowledge in multiple disciplines. Plus, it was fun to watch our projects working.
The other fun parts of the trip were the weekends. We had a weekend to stay with a French
family and I got to stay with Adelaide and her family for two days and I would say that those two
days were the best days that I have spent in France. Another one was the autonomous weekend
wherein we students in groups were asked to go on our own with one or two French students to
someplace. This weekend was even more interesting. The other weekend we had a visit to Lourdes.
The two best days that we enjoyed the most were the days of the Indian show and the Indian
lunch. For the Indian show, we practiced several cultural events that included dances, songs and a
mime on Patriotism. We worked a lot for these practicing every evening till almost 12 at night and
thanks to our hard work, everyone was very much impressed by our performances and congratulated
us. Indian lunch was something that brought out the best in us. None of us knew that we could cook
so good before that eventful day. Everyone one of us made individual cooking and presented almost
15 dishes varying from Briyani to Gobi fry to Custard and Rasamalai. The French staff and students
liked our cooking so well that most of them came for a round 2 and we were on cloud nine because
of this. On the final day, we had a farewell were every Indian student dressed in a traditional outfit
with girls adorning themselves in sarees and boys in dhothis.

The saddest part was us leaving to Paris from Toulouse, the place which became a home to us.
Though a part of us was happy that we are going to visit the City of love, Paris, we were still sad as
we would never get back the moments were we played hide and seek, roamed freely, woke up each
other in the mornings, cooked together, sang songs and danced in groups, celebrated our birthdays
together and the memories would go on endlessly. Moreover, we all would miss Ajay anna, who has
become a brother for every one of us. With tears, we left Toulouse.
Reaching Paris our spirits were lifted once again. We went sightseeing to Eiffel tower and
Louvre museum, which still remains a dream for many. Though we had a few of our friends back in
Paris we were with our new friends from Toulouse as we have bonded as a family and this bond is
something that is special to every one of us. Having spent two days in Paris every one of us from all
the four campuses met in the Paris CDG airport to depart to India.
The summer program in France was an eyeopener to every one of us. Most of us had been
away from the parents for the first time. Whenever one felt homesick the others were there to make
them feel at home and bring the smile back on our faces. Though this program helped us to learn
many multidisciplinary skills technically, it mostly made us look at life from a different perspective.
I personally would thank the college for giving me such an opportunity as this program molded me
in many ways and I got the friends who are always there for me and would never ditch me in any
situation. Moreover, this program helped me in sharpening my skills with the technical aspects too.

Nantes 2017
It’s a great pleasure in sharing the memories of Nantes. We were a group of 18 students from all
departments in which (Aiswariya, Devadass, Nirmala and Joshni) from the EEE department,
accompanied by Ms.Anitha from IT department. It was a great experience for us. Firstly, we reached
Paris at 8 am and waited for a long time for the train meanwhile we got know about the students
from other departments. After the lousy journey we reached Nantes at 9pm. We took rest that night,
as it was a weekend, we went to church the next day, to start our program with a prayer. In the
following days, we had French classes and project classes. We designed the blades for the wind
turbine using 3D printer and determined the wind speed using Bluetooth module connected to
Arduino. The French classes were very interesting as our French teacher made us to play games and
we were excited because the rule was to play in French. We played games like the treasure hunt,
cluedo (an investigation game), Pictionary. Secondly, visits to Centre of the city was fascinating and
we were guided by Mr.Ronnon and Madame Genevieve who were very friendly and persuaded us in
all our works. Moreover, for the French family weekend, (Nirmala and Joshni) we went to same
family.

They were very affectionate to us and they took us to the beach and we spent a whole day out. On
Sunday, they took us to their friend’s house, and it was really a quality time, for us to know about the
French culture. All of the family members were kind and awesome.
Furthermore, the Indian dinner cooked by us, delighted the French people. For the Indian show, all
the 18 of us danced together and amused the French people. Desy Arwin Stephen, who is our senior
from mechanical background accompanied us for the whole month as he was doing his masters at
that time. Calvin, who is our senior from the same department came to see us and spent few days
with us and cheered us. Finally, Fête de la musique, which is a music festival in the whole country,
we enjoyed the music by dancing on the road. We also went for adventurous sports which includes
zip line travel and Tarzan jumps from tree to tree. Lastly, we went to Paris and visited the Eiffel
tower, Sacred heart church. We found some Indian shops where we had Biriyani after a long time.
After the exhausting day, we shared our wonderful memories of the whole program and then went to
Paris airport,(CDG) and took our flights.
