High Tunnel Technique
Benefits from year-round production include
year-round income, retention of old customers,
gain in new customers, and higher prices at times
of the year when other local growers (who have
only unprotected field crops) find difficult to
produce. In summers for off season vegetables
cultivation high quality indeterminate seed is
easily available in markets.

Seed and its Importance
For tunnel cultivation, F1 hybrid seed bred fortunnel use is used, because they have the ability toresist multiple diseases. These hybrid seeds cost
more than the ordinary seeds. The ordinary seed isproduced from the crop itself whereas hybrid seedis produced through a special process. For every
crop, new hybrid seed needs to be purchased /sown. The crop yield achieved from hybrid seeds is3 to 4 times more than to the ordinary seeds and isalso less prone to diseases.

OT Analysis
Opportunities1. Hybrid seeds that provide higher yield can lead to lower
unit cost.
2. Off-season cultivation of high value vegetables will fetchbetter price and provides continuous supply.
3. Higher returns can be obtained by producing the rightcrops, at the right times and of better quality.
4. Expanding the horizon by purchasing more land andincreasing yield.
5. Export markets exist like the Middle East, Far East.6. Partnering with hotels, restaurants for supply etc
7. Training and guidance offered by NARC (Nationalagricultural research centre), Islamabad for promotion of
tunnel farming.
