Administrator’s Message
Another academic year is coming to end. It is almost unbelievable how the time flies. As we wind down, and we look forward to the slower pace of the summer months, we take time to reflect on the past year. With the school‟s 50
th Anniversary, the successes of our many
athletic teams as well as our academic team of W5H, our liturgical celebrations, our Pay it Forward (Cool to be Kind) initiative, our Penny Drive, and the many other activities and events our school community took part in, it is truly evident that we at All Saints are striving to fulfill the Catholic Graduate Expectations on a daily basis.
On behalf of the Administration and the entire staff at All Saints, we wish you a restful, rejuvenating summer, and we look forward to another enriching year ahead!

Prayer For The End of The Year
As we come to the end of another school year,
and may now relax from our studies a little,
We pause to thank you, Dear Lord,
for all of Your guidance and support in our
work throughout this past year.
Please forgive us for any times that we may
have offended You by not using our talents and
gifts to serve You and ourselves best.
Watch over us as we begin to enjoy our
summer vacation.
Keep us safe from harm. We ask this of You, Jesus
Christ, our Lord and Saviour. Amen

Lost and Found Articles We would ask that you encourage your child to check the lost and found articles at school if they are missing articles of clothing. The pile of lost clothing in the lost and found has been increasing. If these articles are not claimed by the end of the school year, they will be donated to charity. You may also call the school and make an appointment to come and check the lost and found articles. Let‟s make this a priority!

Survey Regarding the Multi-
Year Strategic Plan
The Toronto Catholic District School Board approved its Multi-Year Strategic Plan 2012-2015 in last April. The Multi-Year Strategic Plan (MYSP) includes revised mission, vision and values statements as well as a clear focus on six key strategic directions. The MYSP is the result of a comprehensive and collaborative process. In order to assess how well the MYSP is being communicated and implemented, the entire TCDSB community, as well as representatives of our partner organizations in Catholic education, will be (are) invited to complete a brief electronic survey that will be available online from November 1st to November 17th. Trustees, employees, parents, guardians, clergy, TCDSB ratepayers and community members will all be (are all) encouraged to take a few minutes to complete and submit the survey and provide feedback on the initial impact of the Multi-Year Strategic Plan 2012-2015. Please note that the Multi-Year Strategic Plan 2012-2015, hyperlinked Strategic Actions and supporting documents can readily be found on the TCDSB website: http://www.tcdsb.org/Board/Pages/MultiYearStrategicPlan.aspx
Learning Advantage Program Get a head start on the next school year! This spring, our school will once again participate in the Learning Advantage program. There is one 192-page fully-coloured activity book per grade level from Junior Kindgergarten to Grade 7 in both English and French. All books are aligned with the Ontario curriculum expectations for each grade, and provide units on mathematics, science, health and English that are fully Canadian (with regard to money, measurement, social studies, spelling etc.). They have parent information pages, follow-up activities and family focus. The cost of each book is $20 including tax. This is a savings of $1.00-$4.00 from retail stores and online.
Please visit their website www.learningadvantagge.ca for further
information, and a tour of the books.
Give Your Child A
Safe Schools
Visitors to the School
Toronto Catholic District School
Board policy states that all visitors to
the school MUST report to the office. This is foremost to ensure the safety of all students. In an effort to promote
the independence of the students and to ensure the integrity of programs by minimizing interruptions during class time, we request that students arrive prepared for the school day with all the items they require (homework, lunch, physical education clothing, musical instruments etc.). If you would like to contact your child‟s teacher, you may do so through the school office. Please try to make after school arrangements before school.
Allergen Aware
Please take special note that we have children in our school who have very serious allergies to nut products. According to Sabrina‟s Law, we must make every effort to maintain a nut free environment in order to help keep these children safe. We ask that you not bring in or send in any food items to be shared with other students in the class. Please note that baked goods and treats are not permitted for birthday celebrations. Please consider other options that do not involve any food. We apologize for the inconvenience; however, we are certain you will agree that these measures are necessary in order to ensure the safety and welfare of our children.
Personal Property The school does not take any responsibility for the loss or theft of personal items brought onto the school premises by students. The school will therefore, not reimburse or replace lost or stolen articles, under any circumstances. This will include all articles of clothing (label items with a marker); personal school supplies such as fancy or expensive pens, markers, binders and pencil cases, etc.; simple or electronic toys; calculators, laptops, iPod‟s, CD‟s, etc. Please note that collector cards of any kind are not permitted, in addition to all cell phones and any other social media devices. These items will be immediately confiscated by staff and brought to the Principal‟s attention. We ask both parents and students for their full co-operation in this matter. (Please note that the Board‟s insurance policy does not cover property owned by staff or students).
Safe Arrival and Departure
We continue to remind you to contact the school before 8:30 a.m. if your child is going to be absent from school. If we are unable to take your call, you can leave a message on our answering machine. Please ensure that we have a current emergency number where you can be contacted. If you are picking up your child early, please send a note to your child‟s teacher. Please be sure to report to the office to sign them out. If you are returning before the end of the day, please
sign your child back in at the office. All students on
buses must ride the buses to and from school
every day.
Inclement Weather
On days when the weather is inclement, the students may be permitted to enter the building at 8:30 a.m. On such days, the recess periods may be indoors and those students who stay for lunch will be supervised in the building. Indoor recess is usually a result of severe weather conditions; cold weather alone does not warrant an early entry into the building or indoor recess periods. Those decisions will be made accordingly. We believe that children profit greatly from recess breaks as they get out into the fresh air and burn off some energy in play activities. This will make them more alert and ready to continue their studies when they come in. It is important for children, particularly the younger children in the primary grades, to come to school
dressed properly for the weather. A reminder to
everyone that students who are well enough to
be at school are well enough to go out for
recess. We do not have the personnel to supervise students who wish to stay in for recess due to illness. If they are too ill to go out for recess, then they should be home for the day. This will allow for quicker recovery and less teaching and learning time lost to illness.
Attendance, Punctuality and Preparation
The Education Act states that students must attend school regularly and punctually. Parents are to notify the school (416) 393-5290 of a child‟s absence. You may call anytime and leave a message on the answering machine. Students who arrive late for school must check in at the main
office to ensure safe arrival and to help in keeping accurate attendance profiles. Attendance referrals will be sent to the Social Worker and persistent tardiness may result in school detentions. Students are expected to arrive prior to the bell. All students are to arrive prepared to work and learn. Preparation includes the completion of daily assignments that are done to the best of the individual student‟s ability. Preparation also implies that the student devotes appropriate time to study in advance of test situations.
Families Not Returning To All Saints
September 2013
This is just a gentle reminder to all families that if there is anyone who will not be returning to All Saints Catholic School for September 2013, (excluding our Grade Eight graduates), it would be appreciated if you could confirm that information in writing as soon as possible.
Removal of Personal Belongings
Over the course of the month of June, students are asked to gradually remove personal belongings from the school. Please remind students not to leave the removal of any personal belongings to the last day of school. It is far more helpful to remove personal items at the time when they are no longer required at school. Thank you for your support in regards to this matter.
Looking Ahead to September 2013
Class Placements for September 2013: To reduce the class sizes in our province, the Ministry of Education has mandated that each class from JK to Grade 3 have no more than 20 students and that there is an average of approximately 25 students in each class over Grades 4-8. The current model has been created with the projected enrolment for the 2013-2014 academic year that is
within the Ministry‟s parameters. Please note that
with additional student registrations and other
fluctuations in enrolment, classes may need to
be reorganized in September 2013. Teachers have worked together to create heterogeneous class lists for September 2013 with consideration of learning styles, social groupings, behavioural needs, English as a second language, female/male balance, academic abilities and special education
delivery. As a final reminder please remember
that all classroom placements for your child are
tentative until September 30, 2013.
First Day Procedure for Tuesday, September 3, 2013
The first day of school for the 2012-2013 academic
year will be Tuesday, September 3, 2013. Students are asked to go directly to the school yard where large sheets of chart paper will be posted on the wall with the new class lists. We ask all the children to meet their teachers at their posted grade
levels at the bell time of 8:30 a.m.
Activity Fee
All Saints Catholic Elementary School has always endeavored to provide an excellent academic program within which many rich activities are woven to give our children a well-rounded educational experience. In order to provide such experiences, we require funds through fundraising. Over the last several years, our school has been quite active in organizing school fundraisers. Our Catholic School Advisory Council (CSAC) has been instrumental in coordinating these activities that support our children‟s education. We are fortunate to have an enthusiastic group of parent volunteers and community at All Saints. Without you, we would not be able to provide this to our children. This upcoming school year is no different. In September, the school in collaboration with CSAC will be
continuing a Student Activity Fee. The purpose of this student activity fee is to help off-set some of the expenses that the school incurs over the course of the year. CSAC has been very supportive and generous in providing these monies each year through several fundraisers. With this annual one-time fee, we will be able to reduce the number of fundraisers the CSAC organizes. The
Student Activity Fee will cover standard yearly
costs of Transportation for Class Trips, Extra
Curricular Transportation Support, Scientists in
the School (1 per class), Divisional
Presentations, Sacrament Enhancement, SK
and Grade 8 Graduation Enhancements/Awards,
Physical Education Equipment, Excursion
Support, Circle Of Friends Support, Special
Education Program Support, Instrumental Music
Support, Teacher Classroom Funds and
Curriculum Supplements, Library Support and
School Equipment Support.
Details of the student activity fee are as follows:
Parents/Guardians with 1 child - $40 total;
Parents/Guardians with 2 children - $60 total;
Parents/Guardians with 3 children or more - $80
total Please note, CSAC initiatives are separate from Student Council fundraising activities & Social Justice Initiatives and some specific class trips/activities may require a request for additional funds. In September, we will be sending another notice to our parent community with further details on payment, due date and logistics. We would like to thank you in advance for your support.
Appropriate Dress
A brief note of thanks to all the
students, and parents who are fully respecting and enjoying the Appropriate Dress Code at All Saints Catholic School. The majority of our students are proud to be affiliated with All Saints and wear their appropriate colours proudly every day. We would like to send out a gentle reminder to everyone around our appropriate dress code to ensure that everyone, including all of our new students are aware of the expectations of all students attending All Saints Catholic Elementary School. For the rest of the school year and into next year, we will be focussing on ensuring compliance with the appropriate dress code.
Parking A reminder that the school parking lot is for
staff only. Please do not use it for parking as we do not have enough spots for staff.
Our students have been instructed not to enter the parking lot for safety reasons. Father Glaba has graciously volunteered the use of the church parking lot for our parents. Please observe and respect the “in” and “out” flow in the church parking lot. There is
absolutely NO PARKING in the handicapped spaces at the front of the school. The fine is substantial and we need to have those spaces clear for their appropriate use by those that need them. A reminder to all that Renault is strictly a “Drop Off Kiss and Ride”, and there is absolutely no parking permitted within the sign boundaries. Everyone is encouraged to use the PSP in
the school parking lot. Police and Parking
Enforcement have assured us that Renault will be
closely monitored for proper use.
Medication
Principals, teachers and support staff of the TCDSB are not permitted to administer any type of prescription medication during the school day, unless we have written, authorization signed by you
the parent, and the prescribing physician. The forms to dispense any medication must be updated
on a regular basis and are available from the school principal. Please be advised that staff in TCDSB schools will not dispense non-prescription medications to students. Students who need “puffers” should have one at school and at home. All medications will be stored in the main office. Please notify the school if your child suffers from any type of allergy.
Curriculum
Report Card
Report cards will be sent home on Monday, June 24th.
Kindergarten Educational Week
Activity: SNUGGLE UP AND READ All Junior & Senior Kindergarten students attended this special event on Monday,
May 1st, 2013. All parents and guardians were welcome to join their children at the respective classrooms at the latter part of the morning. For the afternoon students, parents and guardians were welcome to join the children at 2:30 pm.
Library News
As we approach the end of the school year, we would like to ask for your cooperation in returning library books and book bags to the library by Wednesday, June 12th. Please also remember to return book bags, as they may be re-labelled and
re-used again next year. Thank you kindly!
Volunteer Tea
On the afternoon of May 14th, All Saints opened their doors and warmly welcomed our volunteers into the
gymnasium. It was a time for our school and our students to thank the many family and community members who graciously extended a helping hand to assist with the needs of the classroom or school by sharing their talents and their time. It would be very difficult to do what we do, and bring about the best in our students without the assistance of our volunteers. The saying goes, „it takes a village to raise a child‟. Our volunteers create the village and sustain it, to promote the growth of our students. Thank you for your time and your commitment to Catholic Education, through your support here at All Saints. We are very grateful to you all.
All Saints Art Club .
The third session started on Wednesday, May 1st and continued until May 29th. The students were challenged to create a canvas painting that reflects the creative process. They were working in a studio-like environment, using sketchbooks, boards, and easels, to sketch and paint Still Life compositions. Their final work exhibited their creativity and the knowledge of the elements and principles of design.
W5H Tournament
This year All Saints was proud to sponsor an intermediate W5H team.
W5H is a trivia competition for the TCSDB.The team is made up of grade 7 and 8 students with a good base of general knowledge. The team competed in the divisional tournament at Father Serra and placed second. They not only demonstrated good general knowledge but also great sportsman like behaviour. Congratulations to Lui Gagliardi, Matthew D‟Addario, Bekure Mekbib, Callum Asselstine, Rebecca Martyn, Salvatore Luciano and Katya Payukova.
Special Olympics On May 28th, All Saints participated in the TCDSB Special Olympic Tournament at Varsity Stadium. This event is always an inspirational and fun event for all involved, athletes, coaches and spectators. Congratulations to Kinga Randzio, Lexan Perez-Borroto and Alberto and Gustavo Cuesta for their medal worthy finishes and for showing us all what success truly is.
Pay It Forward
All Saints Catholic Elementary School continues to work through the Pay It Forward, C2BK (cool to be kind) initiative. All Saints embraced this program as a 50th Anniversary Project. Since then, students have been learning to act with kindness. These acts promoting kindness are beautiful examples of how our students live out the Catholic Graduate Expectations. We continue to encourage each student to commit personally to DO kind acts over the summer holiday.
Eco School
The Eco Schools committee worked diligently in preparing the school for
Earth Hour. The students prepared announcements to educate the student population about earth hour. Our school participated in Earth Hour from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday March 22nd. Earth Hour is a global event organized by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature, also known as World Wildlife Fund) and is held on the last Saturday of March annually, asking households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change. Furthermore the Eco School team launched a new green bin program at All Saints school which mirrors the green bin program which students are using at home. The new program is in full swing and we are educating our staff and students to put waste in its place, either in the green bin, recycling, or garbage.
Thank you for all your help.

EQAO Testing
Our Grade 3 and 6 students are participating in
the Education Quality and Accountability
Office’s (EQAO’s) Assessment of Reading,
Writing and Mathematics from May 27nd to June
5th 2013. The assessment is administered province-wide and is developed by Ontario teachers and assessment experts to reflect curriculum expectations. We thank all of our grade three and six teachers for their efforts in supporting our students during this testing period.
CAT– 4 Testing
Our Grades 2, 5 and 7 students participated in
CAT- 4 testing from May 27th to June 5th 2013. The results of this testing will not be used for report card purposes. The data provides individual student,
school and system indicators of academic performance which can help in the planning of a good teaching program for students by identifying areas of strength and weakness. Individual students‟ and this school‟s results will be available in the Fall of the year 2013. We thank all of our grade two, five and seven teachers for their efforts in supporting our students during this testing period.
Trip to Youth University at Brock
University
The grade seven‟s attended a Natural Science camp at Brock University. They left on May 6th and returned on May 8th. The trip was a wonderful learning experience, they lived in dormitory style accommodation and ate at the university cafeteria. A good learning experience for later years. In addition, they were exposed to many interesting science activities. In many activities, the students had fun dissecting owl pellets, investigating solar power using smores and building a rigid structure to test the strength of an egg shell. The students were engaged in fun and stimulating activities. They left with memories of an amazing campfire, an entertaining dance and a fantanstic time overall.
Grade Eight Overnight Excursion to
Ottawa We wish our Grade 8 students and their
teachers well as they head off to Ottawa for their overnight excursion. The students and their teachers will be departing on June 12th and will be returning on June 14th. Thanks to all of our teachers for taking personal time to accompany our Grade 8 students on this memorable trip.
First Reconciliation and First
Communion
He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them."
On Monday May 6th and Sunday May 26th, 2013, the Grade 2 students received the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion, respectively. Preparation for these two sacraments began in January 2013 and culminated with a memorable Eucharistic celebration where students actively participated in receiving the Body of Christ and feasted at the Table of the Lord. Celebrating the
First Eucharist allowed the students entry for the first time, into the full celebration of the Eucharist. They are sent forth, filled with the Holy Spirit, to continue to share in this holy meal. On behalf of both the All Saints School and Christian communities, we congratulate the Grade 2 students and pray they continue to stay close to God. "Jesus sent us the Holy Spirit to bring us closer together in the family of the Church."
Jump Rope for Heart
On May 17th, 2013 all the students at All Saints took part in the Jump Rope for Heart event. That's a lot of skipping! We were also successful in raising $8825.00 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Congratulations All Saints for your healthy participation and overwhelming charity.
Keep on skipping!
Confirmation Our Grade eight students received the sacrament of Confirmation on Thursday, May 30th. They made an adult decision to be fully integrated into the Catholic Church Community. May the Holy Spirit guide them in their
lives. We would like to thank: Father Glaba, our teachers and the volunteers from the church for preparing the students and organizing this special event. We would especially like to thank Mr. Bressan, Mr. Takacs, Mr. Goles, Mrs. Nobre-Peres, and Mrs. Stellato for their assistance in preparing the students for this very important sacrament. Thank you to Ms. Torres and the choir for their angelic voices.
Grade Eight Graduation
On June 19th, our Grade eight students will bid their last formal
farewell to All Saints School. We will bid our final farewell to the graduates in our “Clap Out”. Our graduates will walk through the school to the respectful applause of the rest of the school lined up outside their classrooms. We look forward to this very emotional time for all! Staff and students will participate in day-long activities after this farewell. A formal graduation lunch will be held at Julius Banquet Hall followed by a dance. Later that evening we will convene at All Saints Church with the parents to celebrate Mass with Father Andrezej Glaba and members of the
Parish Team. The Graduation Mass will be followed by our Annual Awards Presentations and refreshments.

Cardinal Thomas Collins Releases Pastoral Plan for the Archdiocese of Toronto
Spiritual roadmap will chart course for Canada’s largest Catholic community
The Catholic Archdiocese of Toronto, under the spiritual leadership of Cardinal Thomas Collins, released its
pastoral plan earlier this year, providing a spiritual roadmap that will help chart the course for 225 parishes
and 1.8 million Catholics throughout the Greater Toronto Area for years to come. The product of extensive
consultation over the last several years, the Archdiocese of Toronto‟s Pastoral Plan identifies five key
priorities for Canada‟s largest diocese: Parish Life, Vocations, Catholic Outreach, Evangelization and St.
Michael‟s Cathedral as sign of the church‟s mission. The vision also recognizes restoration and
redevelopment opportunities for the Cathedral Block, in the heart of downtown Toronto.
An online webpage, www.archtoronto.org/pastoral, has been created to include: translations of the summary
version in 30 languages; the full plan in seven languages; as well as helpful resources to assist the Catholic
community in additional reflection, prayer and implementation of the plan.

TCDSB Celebrates Children’s mental health Awareness Week.
May 5-11, 2013:
Did You Know: 1 in 5 children and youth suffer from a mental health concern? Children and youth can experience mental health concerns that range from mild to serious. For instance,
some students may have a little anxiety when they are facing a test, while others may be very anxious about
the same test. When an issue lasts for more than a few weeks, and interferes with the student‟s daily life, then
it becomes a concern that requires further help. Depression and anxiety are the most common mental health
concerns for children and youth.

5 tips to promote mental health in your child or youth •Be positive role models. Children and youth need to see us express our feelings, talk over a problem with
our partner, or see things from someone else‟s point of view, Teach children how to reach out to others when
they need help and support.
•Promote a healthy lifestyle. Give healthy food, make sure children and youth get enough sleep and
exercise.
•Ask children and youth how their day went. Let them know when they‟ve done something well (like
trying hard, being patient or kind, or getting better at something). Focus on the effort, not always the result. If
something is bothering or stressing them, ask if they need help to solve the problem.
•Ask children and youth how they’re feeling about things. Some children and youth may not know how
to express themselves. Help them with language to „name‟ and express feelings (“OH, that must have been
frustrating to have to wait so long…”)
•Always take children’s and youth ‘s concerns and worries seriously. Children and youth may believe
that their feelings don‟t matter if we dismiss their feelings.
