Recruiting Now 2016 Football Education Programme for girls aged 16 - 18

Welcome to the edsvacademy

Here we offer a chance for girls aged 16-19 years old the chance to marry their studies with football development. When looking at these types of programmes, the key considerations for anyone interested needs to be ‘what are my academic options?’ and ‘what will my football development be?’ Since forming in 2014, we have managed to attain outstanding statistics to answer both of these questions factually. Academically, 100% of our students have left us with the relevant qualifications for their chosen career path, whilst on the pitch we have had three players represent the England National Side.

What we are looking for is those of you who are serious about your development as both a student and an athlete. We only recruit a maximum of 15 girls each year, so whilst acceptance on to our programme will mean you receive plenty of benefits, it also comes with a high expectation to push yourself to be better.

Within this brochure you’ll gain an insight to what we offer. If you like what you see and what I’ve stated above sounds like you then we’ll look forward to receiving your application. If it isn’t then we take this opportunity to wish you luck with your future endeavours.

Best Regards,

Chris Watters, Academy Director

Football Info

Richard Lee – Goal Keeper for Brentford FC, Director of GK IconClub History: Watford, Blackburn, Brentford

“Being a professional goalkeeper for the last 12 years has certainly helped open my eyes to progression and participation levels in grass roots football throughout the country. I can genuinely say that EDSV Academy, based at Oaklands College Smallford, has beaten off competition to secure a very much “pro” experience on their scholarship programme. This is seen throughout the level of care, detail, coaching and genuine opportunity the programme process on a monthly and yearly basis.”

Testimonials

Lucy Loomes – Ex- Elite & current London Bee/England u19 InternationalClub

“I loved my time with the EDSV Academy! I transferred to Oaklands for the second year of my academic course and the whole experience I had was amazing.

The coaching staff helped me develop as a player and they were very supportive of my commitments once I began with London Bees. I benefitted from the masterclasses they provided with ex-professional strikers, as well as the strength & conditioning they provided me.

I am now studying for a degree at Herts University, which again was made possible with the support of EDSV staff.”

Julia Robathan– Bedfordshire Female Football Officer

“As part of my job role I am responsible for creating better opportunities for young females in the Bedfordshire area. Despite them being based in a neighbouring county, I have worked closely with the EDSV Academy and I’ve recommended a number of the players within our County squad, all of whom I know are thoroughly enjoying their time working with the coaching staff.

I am more than happy to endorse the work they do and I believe that this is an excellent option for girls within this age range who are looking to progress”.

Chloe Arthur – Hibernian Ladies & Scotland Senior International

“When I visited the academy I was really impressed with the level of detail provided to the players.

I’ve been fortunate enough to represent my country and the professionalism I get when with Scotland is no different to what these players get. Sessions are well planned and there is a clear identity from the coaches of what they are trying to achieve.”

Fran Kirby - Chelsea Ladies FC & England Ladies

“I recently did a Q&A session with the Academy girls and I have to say I was really impressed. From talking to the girls it was clear to see that they all thoroughly enjoy the courses and the training they received and I must say, I actually found that what they were offered is extremely similar to what you’d get in a professional set up.

It was really nice to meet such a driven group of girls and I look forward to visiting again in the future..”

Oaklands College have enjoyed many successes within Women’s football. There are currently 32 ex-Oaklands students that are playing within the FAWSL that started their journey’s here. Most notably Jordan Nobbs – Arsenal Ladies & England Vice-Captain.

Since EDSV Ladies was formed in 2014, we have enjoyed:

- Lucy Loomes (Signed a contract with London Bees & England u19 call up)- Beth Lumsden (Selected for the 2016 ECFA England College National Team)- Megan Gordon ((Selected for the 2016 ECFA England College National Team)

FAQs

Are there fees involved with the academy? There are fees, yes. These are currently under review so we cannot state an exact amount just yet. these will be made clear at your trial.

Am I allowed to play for my current clubs and be a part of the edsvacademy? Our only request is that you make yourselves available for our midweek college fixtures, nothing else. If you wish to continue playing for your current teams then we have no issues with this.

Can I be a part of the edsvacademy but stay at my current school? No. You will need to be looking to study at one of our centres to be a part of this programme.

Am I guaranteed games if I join?We guarantee an extensive training programme where our best student athletes play, we don’t guarantee games. Team selections are based on both academic and football performance.

What competition is there for places in the teams? We have a maximum of twenty-four girls within the academy. We then aim to recruit on a rough ratio of 2/3 players to each position.

What leagues would I play in?We compete in three leagues. Our 1st & 2nd XI’s participate within the Association of College’s League. We then run a side in the Herts County School Association League for players that may be returning from injury or aren’t featuring in our first two teams.
