Differences Between United States and Cambodia
In the world, some countries are using the democratic system to lead their nations while
the rest are using communist system. Specifically, Cambodia and United States are using the
same system, which is the democratic system. Theoretically, Cambodia and the United States
should have many major similar qualities, but in fact, Cambodia and the United States have a lot
of major dissimilarities, noticeably in 21st century. And the dissimilarities between them are; gun
control, economics, the educational system, and the government.
First of all, gun control law is the permission that allows people to use guns legally. In
the United States, guns are sold legally to those who need to use them on various purposes.
Many U.S citizens think that gun control should be legitimate, because they believe that they can
use the guns to protect themselves from any situations. Unlike Cambodia, Cambodian citizens
are not allowed to use guns unless they are policemen, or policewomen, or members of
government. This is due to the fact that Cambodian people believe that there will be more
criminals if gun control is made legal.
Besides guns control, Cambodia and United States also have different economic
conditions. United States is known as the largest economic country in the world. United States is
a capitalist country where economics are based on the market economy system with least
regulations. Also, the economic modules are formulated by actual economists who are highly
educated. It is different from the Cambodian economy, because its economy is very low compare
to other countries in the world, especially the United States. Also, Cambodian economic modules
are not properly formulated by economists; for those economists didn’t get a proper education
and weren’t recruited legally by the royal government of Cambodia.

Beyond of guns control and economic situations, educational system is also critically
considered as a significant difference between the United States and Cambodia. Specifically, the
United States is scientifically considered as a great place for education because of its academic
excellence. In the USA, educational staff and teachers get higher pay and the corruption in
education is almost non-existence. In contrast, the education in Cambodia is leveled as very low
compared to the United States and other countries in the world. Additionally, if you work in
educational services in Cambodia, you will get lower pay. Corruption in the educational system
in Cambodia is often committed, and thus the education becomes even worse and worse.
In addition to these dissimilarities, the government of the United States and Cambodia are
also different from each other. The government of the USA is a legal government, because their
federal governments were created by election democratically. On the other hand, the Cambodian
government is currently an illegal government according to article 76 of the constitutional law of
Cambodia1, because the current national assembly of Cambodia consists of only 68 members
while the constitutional law of Cambodia requires at least 120 members working in the national
assembly to be able to run a legal government and pass laws and regulations.
Cambodia and the United States of America have many differences; however, these two
countries use democratic approaches to run their governments. Noticeably, the guns control, the
educational systems, economic performances and government in the United States are very
different from Cambodia. Different leaders and different governments in different countries will
lead to different results for their nations. It may result positively or negatively for their people.
1 Constitutional Law of Cambodia, article 76: i. The assembly consists of at least 120 members.
ii. The deputies shall be elected by a free, universal, equal, direct and secret ballot. The deputies may be re-elected iii. Khmer citizens able to stand for election shall be the Khmer citizens of either sex who have the right to vote, at least
25 years of age, and who have Khmer nationalities at birth iv. Preparation for the election, procedure and electoral process shall be determined by an Electoral Law.
