Ancillary Task 1

First of all, selected the picture I wanted and placed it in Picasa Photo Editor, where I would edit all of the pictures I used for this project.

Ancillary Task 2

Secondly, I placed a black rectangle at the bottom of the advert, so that any writing that needs to be on my this advert can be seen clearer against the dark background.

Ancillary Task 3

Next, I added the front cover of the album at the bottom left hand corner of the advert, on top of the black rectangle.

Ancillary Task 4

I then added a white border around the front cover, as the background to it is black, and therefore it is hard to differentiate the cover and the background without the white border.

Ancillary Task 5

Next, I added the artist name in clear and bold letters across the middle of the image. I gave the text a burgundy outline in order to help it stand out against the background, as the white was not easy to see against it.

Ancillary Task 6

Just below that, I added the album title, slightly overlapping the bottom of the artist name. I gave this a different colour outline, so that the name of the artist is the first thing that is seen on this advert.

Ancillary Task 7

I then added the by-line at the top of the advert. I put it in black for two reasons; so that it stands out clear from the background but also so that it does not draw too much attention away from the image and the main text.

Ancillary Task 8

After this, I added the text at the bottom which states the singles that are on this album, along with the release date. I gave the release date the same outline as the artist name so it also draws attention as the main attractions on this advert.

Ancillary Task 9

Next I added the artist website right at the bottom of the advert, with the colour scheme following the title of the album’s colours. I also shifted the singles to the left, in order to make room for more information for the audience.

Ancillary Task 10

I then added the stores and places that the album is available from. I didn’t put any outline around this text, in order to differentiate it from the other text on the advert.

Ancillary Task 11

Finally, I changed the font colouring inside the release date from black to white, in order to make it stand out even more to the audience.

Evaluation Question 2

‘How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?’

Evaluation Answer

The use of ancillary texts makes my magazine advert very effective, as it provides in detail my reasoning for choosing certain colours, pictures and styles on it. It helps whoever read it to know the purpose for each and every thing that is presented to them on magazine advert, and therefore they can then realise what the functions are.

For example, I wanted the main function of my magazine advert to be its ability to get those viewing it become familiar with the artist name and release date for his album, so I changed the font colour and size for both the artist name and release date on the magazine advert. Though this is easily recognised by anyone who sees it, they can further understand why I did this through reading my ancillary tasks, which explain this as I did it.

It is also good because it shows the order in which I did placed pictures and added text, so they can see the relevance and importance of each factor on the magazine advert. This makes the overall product very effective.
