Post-Doc/Research position in 3D Audio and audio streams demixing

    Place:TELECOM ParisTech (ENST), Paris, France

    Duration: 1 yearStart:Any date from January 6

    th, 2014

    Salary:according to background and experience

*Position description*The position is supported by the European project FP7-REVERIE

    1and the national project ANR-Edison3D

    2.

The role of the PostDoc/researcher will consist in conducting forefront research in spatial Audioand directlyparticipate to the projects by building a flexible and interactive realtime 3D audio spatializer for binauralreproduction (headphones) and by proposing new schemes for seemless spatial audio format conversion. One of

the foreseen research directions would be to combine physical approaches with perceptual approaches in a unifiedscheme where the low frequency content is physically modeled (this shall in particular represent the early part ofthe reverberant field, e.g. the direct path and early echoes) and the high frequency content is perceptuallymodeled. One of the main challenges of this hybrid approach is to reach a homogeneous perception of thereverberant field and a seemless transition between the two paradigms. Another foreseen research directionconcerns the design of novel schemes for audio format conversion. Potential strategies would allow for

reencoding/remapping of an audio scene into an alternative format (stereo to object/HOA/multichannel) or relyon novel source separation paradigms for extracting main sources and expand background to 3D(background/foreground splitting). This second strategy could rely on an audio objects based representation andon user-guided audio source separation approaches.

    *TELECOM ParisTech*

TELECOM ParisTech is the leading graduate School of Institut TELECOM with more than 160 researchprofessors, 20 associated CNRS researchers and over 250 Engineering degrees, 50 PhD and 150 specialisedmasters (post graduates) awarded per year. The Audio, Acoustics and Waves research group (AAO) headed byProf. Gal Richard gathers 6 permanent staffs, 3 postDocs and over 12 PhD students. In audio signal processing, the group has developed a strong expertise in audio signal processing (source separation, indexing, Audio3Dcompression, dereverberation/denoising....). 1The ultimate goal of REVERIE is to provide the means for building a mixed reality space in which real and virtual worlds

engage and seamlessly interact in realtime, generating compelling and highly realistic immersive environments

The ANR-Edison 3D project aims at increasing knowledge and proposing technical tools that will help actors in the audio-industry to be as independent as possible from the various upcoming formats or methods.
