Message from theChairman

Banking is very much a service profession … it is all about people, relationships, trust, responsible business and sustainable growth. This is the essence of our forward-thinking Corporate Sustainability Initiative, launched in March 2013, as part of steady efforts to “lead by example”. Sustained leadership in today’s competitive banking industry is based on a holistic vision of the future … a vision that strikes a sound balance between the legitimate goal of increased profitability and financial health, as well as serving broader socio-economic and environmental interests. As such, business goals are inseparable from the well-being of society and the environment in which we operate; the backbone of any durable success.

That said, I am aware of the encouraging efforts of the newly established Sustainability Development Department and the positive momentum that continues to be generated in this promising field, particularly the growing engagement of our staff, our real wealth.

At the same time, I realize that an inclusive bank-wide commitment will gradually develop over time, based on penetrating analysis, best practices and lessons learnt, as well as global considerations. In the meantime, we need to build on our strengths and achievements … and they are many … and together, continue to grow our sustainability structures and collaborative action plans. Last but certainly not least, we should never lose sight of our characteristic “can-do-spirit” … as CIB advances into a true model of what can be!

Sustainability Pillars 2013

CIB FoundationWhat Did the Foundation Do?Over the past year the CIB Foundation has continued to support its existing programs including the 6/6 Eye Exam, Caravan volunteer project as well introduce new initiatives such as our blood donation campaigns.

Why?At the CIB Foundation we recognize the daily struggle Egyptians face in accessing quality affordable health care. Health institutions are overcrowded, underfunded and under-resourced. In an effort to bridge these gaps the CIB Foundation is committed to enhancing the quality of services provided to ensure the best possible care for our youngest citizens.

What Were the Results?

In 2013 alone the CIB Foundation provided over 4000 public elementary school children with free eye exams and care, supported over 450 children’s surgeries, collected roughly 800 blood bags from CIB employees, donated EGP 14 million to the Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation to exclusively sponsor the second Pediatric floor in the Aswan Heart Centre’s Outpatient Clinic and allocated EGP 10 million to renovate and upgrade the Abou El Reesh El Mounira Children’s Hospital’s Emergency Ward and Reception Area.

Assessment of Social and Environmental practices at CIBThe Sustainable Development Department coordinated and managed 22 meetings with 16 departments from all over the bank for an external consultant. This resulted in an assessment report and a gap analysis.

Why? To:• Consolidate the positive social and

environmental practices across CIB.

• Develop the sustainability framework (constitution document for sustainability) together with the sustainability road map (short-term and long-term sustainability milestones).

Awareness &Communication

The process of initiating a communication plan started in June 2013 to raise sustainability awareness and share “Green News”. This was implemented in October 2013 and will be an ongoing process.

LEEDWhat is LEED?Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) is a third-party certification program and an internationally-accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings.

Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED is intended to help building owners and operators find and implement ways to be environmentally responsible and resource-efficient.

Why? To:• Conserve energy and reduce water

consumption.• Save money & increase building value.• Improve indoor air quality and health.• Make better building material choices and

drive innovation.

What is CIB doing?In October 2013 a LEED Expert undertook an assessment. to turn the new Smart Village building into becoming LEED EBOM (Existing Buildings Operations and Maintenance) certified. follow up maintained.

Rooftop GardenIn June 2013 a rooftop garden was developed in our New Smart Village building where fresh & organic vegetables and fruits are grown for home use.

Why? To:√ Create a healthy, relaxing and aesthetically

welcoming environment where CIB staff can take breaks and host events.

√ Enhance the working environment of CIB staff by applying innovative environmental solutions which can be replicated.

√ Plant large areas using water-efficient technologies.

√ Promote CIB’s green image in line with the bank’s Going Green Initiative.

1. Herbs Peppermint, Lavender, Rosemary, Thyme, Marjoram, Oregano, Spearmint, Lemon, Grass, Ginger and Basil.

2. Fruits & VeggiesStrawberries, Lettuce, Rocket, Parsley and Celery.

3. Indigenous PlantsPapyrus and Desert Shrubs.

4. List of GreensRocket, Jew’s Mallow, Radish, Dill, Parsnips, Parsley, Celery and Taro.

Green WallA green living wall was established in the New Smart Village Building as a pilot branch to provide a green aesthetic touch inside the building.

Why? To:√ Improve the indoor air quality.

√ Provide employees and clients with a pleasant working environment.

√ Reduce the amount of energy used to maintain a inviting internal temperature in the building.

√ Promote CIB’s green image in line with the bank’s Going Green Initiative.

CIBians continue to provide creative ideas! A suggestion by Islam Marzouk, a green team member, was the PC sleep mode. Immediate implementation started in June 2013. All staff PCs enter a Sleep Mode after 5 minutes to save energy (previously every 30 minutes)

Sleep mode is taking your computer into the minimum power consumption mode and then back to work when pressing any key or mouse move.

Why? To:√ Reduce the computer kilowatts consumption by

25% to 40%.

√ Lower the depreciation for computers in the long-run.

√ Promote CIB’s green image in line with the bank’s Going Green Initiative.

An ongoing training strategy has been prepared to institutionalize sustainability training at CIB for three main types of training:

1. Training of Trainers (ToT) sessions28 employees received the Sustainability Awareness session in 2013. Two ToT sessions were conducted covering 20 instructors from various departments to conduct the awareness sessions to the rest of the staff.

2. Sustainability Staff Awareness SessionIn October 2013, 12 sessions were dilivered to 1046 CIB employees in different departments across the four Head Offices in Cairo: Strategic Relations, Operations, IT, Human Resource, Call Center, Corporate Services, Credit Admin, Corporate and Risk. Also Nine Awareness sessions were

conducted targeting the Delta and Alexandria region.

3. Social and Environmental TrainingTwo sessions covering 18 selected members from Business and Risk group attended a two day S&E brainstorming workshop in 2013 to:

• Ingrain Sustainability into the mindset of all CIB employees to become part of their everyday life and promote it within their internal and external communities.

• Prepare the selected Social and Environmental Management System (SEMS) team attendees who will play a pivotal role in 2014 through the development of SEMS.

In light of CIB’s endeavours to promote the knowledge of banking via solid educational

programs, the bank along with the American University in Cairo have agreed to design the CIB

Professorship Endowment, for the creation of the position of “Professorship in Banking”. Founding

this new senior position at AUC conforms with CIB’s strategy of social responsibility of developing talent in the banking field in Egypt. The initiative will concentrate on developing the undergraduate curriculum in business education in the field of retail banking, satisfying the need for skilled human capital in the job market.

Don’t forget to switch off the lights.

Switching off five lights in hallways and rooms in your house – when you don’t need them – can save around EGP 1000 a year. This prevents the release of approximately 400 kg of CO2 gas/year.

SavingWaterWith your contribution in saving water consumption we can contribute to maintaining and sustaining our precious natural resources with a rewarding rate of return on future generations.

CAR “POOL”If you live far away from work instead of driving alone to and from your office each day, start a car pooling initiative with your colleagues and share the responsibility. It will save you time, petrol and help the environment!

SAY NOto plastic or paper bags

The plastic bags you use but for a few minutes can last for as long as 15 to 1000 years in the environment. Don’t get a new plastic bag each time you go shopping. Get a re-useable cotton bag instead and say ‘no thanks’ to plastic or paper bags.

٢. يا ترى اشتغلت فى حته تانية قبل البنك؟قضيت تسع سنين فى البنك األهلى.

وانطباعاتك دى العمر رحلة من نستفيد عاوزين .٣وذكرياتك عنها. شايفها شاقة واال شّيقة؟

فى عملى خصوصا األحيان، أغلب فى وممتعة شيقة

أحب شغلى وأكثر، خالنى ده، ... كل المتبادل واالحترام وأتفانى فيه خالل األربعين سنة اللى فاتت ... أصل دايمًا األيام الحلوة بتمر بسرعة رهيبة ... غير ان البنك العظيم ده ليه فضل كبير عّلى. أنا فاكر مثال أول أرباحى، تعرفى حضرتك كانت كام؟ ما تعدتش ستة جنيه وقتها! دلوقتى، أنا الحمد لله نجحت فى بناء بيتى، وحجيت وعملت عمرة ... والفضل كله، بعد ربنا، للبنك. وده خالنى أحس باالنتماء للبنك وأتمنى له دايمًا كل نجاح وتقدم كمان وكمان يارب.

وعاصرت التاريخ" على بيقولوا "شاهد ما زى انت .٥مراحل مختلفة فى البنك ... احكى لنا يا عم أنور ...

بنك كان الجديد، البنك الشغل فى كنت خايف جدًا من بصرامة بيتعاملوا األجانب من أعضاؤه وكان مبتدئ شديدة مع العمال. أفتكر "الخواجة" اللى كان يدخل ويخرج بيكبر البنك إزاى شفت ولكن الوقت! طول "يزعبب" بصورة ملحوظة وإزاى كان عمالئه من الناس والشركات المميزين والمحترمين. البنك دلوقتى بيجرى ... ما شاء الله

على إدارة األستاذ هشام خالل ١٢ سنة ... حاجة تفرح ...

فى يوم تانى. الساعة بعقارب نرجع تعالى طيب، .٦حياة عم أنور فى أول درجات السلم كان شكله إيه؟

كنت بصور وأوزع الجوابات التعريفية للبنك بنفسى. فأبدأ رحلتى من مدينة نصر وانتهى فى حلوان كل يوم. أصلى كنت باشتغل فى البنك من أيام ما كان عدد الموظفين

لسه مش كبير زى النهارده ما شاء الله.

٧. بتوفق بين حياتك الشخصية والشغل إزاى؟"للصبح" بشتغل كنت شغلى بداية فى افتكر ما على وأحيانًا تضطرنى الظروف إنى أبيت فى البنك، لكن دايمًا

كنت فخور ومطمن للشغل فى المؤسسة دى.

٨. لو رجع بيك الزمن كنت حتكمل فى البنك؟ معظم اللى بيعمل فى البنك هنا ما يقدرش يتخلى عنه يسيبه اللى ... العظيم النيل نهر زى ده البنك بسهولة. بيبقى عايز دايمًا يرجعله تانى ... أتمنى أشوف البنك ده

دايمًا فى أحسن حال.

٩. يا ترى سمعت عن مبادرة "االستدامة" يا عم أنور؟داخلين إحنا لألسف طبعا سمعت، وبساهم فيها كمان.

النهضة سد عن بنسمع شوية وكل ميه، أزمة على والبنزين. الكهربا فى كبير عجز عندنا وكمان ومشاكله. مبادرة "االستدامة" كويسة جدًا علشان هاتساعد فى الحد من المشاكل دى وهنوفر مع بعض فى استخدام الطاقة وبالشكل الطبيعية، ونحافظ على مواردنا والورق والميه دايمًا والبنك والدنا. ومستقبل بنأمن مستقبلنا إحنا ده

بيضرب المثل األعلى.

١٠. عظيم ... تفتكر الكل ممكن يساعد إزاى؟أنا متعود أتمشى فى اإلدارة علشان أتأكد إن أجهزة التكييف أنا الفاضية. واألماكن المكاتب فى شغالة مش والنور ميزانية بيحمل الكهربا، فى خصوصًا الفاقد، إن عارف واحيانًا الكهربا باطفى وبالتالى جدًا كبيرة تكلفة البنك بابدلها بلمبات "نيون" أو إضاءة موفره للطاقة، وبحاول دايمًا أقلل من استخدام النور الزيادة بشكل عام. وباستمرار أنا بابذل جهد فى الكالم مع زمالئى على ضرورة التوفير فى االستهالك العام فى الكهربا والميه فى البنك. وكمان بيلتزم بمبادرة االستدامة اللى باشوفه من زمالئى مش لو قللنا من فاتورة انه افكره البنك، اللى بيحرص عليها مرتباتنا هاتزيد وبالتالى البنك ربحية هاتزيد مثال، الكهربا المبادرة على الحرص وبعدين سنة. كل أرباحنا ونسبة فاليه ما أى حاجة، الموظف االيجابية دى مش هايكلف نبقاش كلنا حريصين على االلتزام بيها من أجل المصلحة
