A Word from Pastor Tom….. Let me begin by saying thank you to all those families that agreed to host people in their home for the My Hope America in home crusades. I look forward to seeing what the end results are going to be. I know that we have several families that opened doors of witnessing to their friends and neighbors. I know that our student ministry saw two individuals pray to receive Christ. That is a victory right there. I know that God has honored our efforts by bringing new people into our church by letter, by statement and by baptism in these two weeks following the My Hope emphasis. As I shared with you at the beginning of preparation for this, it was not about church growth but Kingdom growth. If we concentrated on Kingdom growth, then church growth would take care of itself. Secondly, I want to encourage you to make plans to be a part of our 20th Anniversary Celebration in 2014. It is hard to believe that it has been 20 years since Bay Area Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Carrollwood came together to form a whole new congregation called Carrollwood Baptist Church. We will hear from many of our people during these next six months and they will share their special memories about CBC. Then on the last weekend in May or the first weekend in June (To Be Determined), we will have a three day celebration inviting all of our former staff members and our former members to join us in “Celebrating 20 Years of Shining the Light of Jesus to our World.” The weekend will include a celebration service featuring those who have led our Student and Children’s ministries, a celebration service featuring those who have led our Education and Music Ministries and a Lord’s Day celebration of these past 20 years. We will have an anniversary meal or meals together, participate in our anniversary golf tournament and have plenty of time to fellowship and reminisce together. We are in the process right now of gathering all the addresses of former members and you can help by filling out a card on any that you may have that we don’t have. Check out the list in the Life Center. Finally, let me encourage you to be involved in all the Christmas events that are taking place at CBC during December. There will be special music presentations, class Christmas parties, Christmas Dinner and Christmas Party and our special Christmas Eve Candlelight Vespers. Let me also wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Wonderful 2014. Our past is glorious, our future is bright and our Lord is on His throne. What more could we ask for?

During the month of December we will be receiving recommendations from the church membership for men who would meet the qualifications and be willing to be ordained as a deacon. These are recommendations and not ballots for election. Those recommended will be invited to meet with our Deacon Nominating Committee for review and qualifying. At the conclusion, those who meet the qualifications and are willing to serve will be presented to the church for election and ordination. Qualifications for being ordained shall be those that are set forth in Scripture, specifically those found in 1 Timothy 3:8-13 and Acts 6:1-8. This includes being a member of CBC for a minimum of one year and being a faithful supporter of the church with regular attendance (time), involvement and leadership in CBC ministries (talent) and financial support of God’s work through His church (tithe). The Deacon Nominating Committee will meet with these men in January and then present nominations to the church for election in February. Also in the month of January all current ordained deacons will be given the opportunity to serve on the active Deacon Body for the next two years. Those who agree to serve and the newly ordained deacons will begin to serve in February. As a special note, our deacons are invited to serve on a continuous basis. We do not rotate them off of active service. The deacon body is not a board and does not do the business of the church. Their task is primarily service and this is carried out through the Deacon Family Ministry.
