JUNE/JULY 2021 A Word from Pastor Bryson… I am going to recommend a wonderful Book to you; the bestselling Book of all time by a very wide margin. There have been more copies printed than there are people alive today. There are poems, history, wars, floods, miracles, laws and a guide to live by. This Book contains the greatest love story of all time, the account of how much God loves you. And of course I am talking about the Bible. Being followers of Jesus puts a strong call on our lives. We are called to be Disciples of our Lord Jesus. Being a Disciple calls us to lead disciplined lives. These disciplines include: being present in the life of the Church, to engaging in an active prayer life, sharing our gifts and talents to build the Kingdom. All baptized followers of Jesus need to share our faith and be invitational inviting our neighbors to Church. We all need to be disciplined in reading and studying our Bibles. We should read our Bibles daily. Most all of us read. We read newspapers and magazines. We read novels and pamphlets. Some of us read facebook, Instagram, blogs and all kinds of internet “stuff”. I read these things also. How many of us include reading the Bible in our reading list? If you do not know where to start, I offer suggestions. Begin by reading one Psalm per day and by reading at least one chapter of the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John). Mark is the shortest. My favorite is Luke. After reading a Gospel then read Acts (Luke and Acts are a two volume set). After reading a Gospel and Acts read Genesis then Exodus. Then start incorporating Paul’s letters and more of the OT. There are also recommendations for reading the Bible in a year which are easily found. If you get stuck or become confused give me a call or email ([email protected]). Don’t be distressed if you are confused, the Bible is sometimes confusing for even the best scholars. A Study Bible helps and there are many options. My favorite is The Harper Collins Study Bible, New Revised Standard Version. Read the introductions for each of the books as you begin a new book. Rev. Terry Pfeiffer uses an Oxford Study Bible, have him show it to you to see what the condition of your Bible should look like. I challenge each of us to read our Bibles daily. Make reading and studying the Word of God a daily part of your life. I believe reading the Bible is an essential part of the call of Christians.

A Word from Pastor Bryson…

I am going to recommend a wonderful Book to you; the bestselling Book of all time by a very wide margin.

There have been more copies printed than there are people alive today. There are poems, history, wars,

floods, miracles, laws and a guide to live by. This Book contains the greatest love story of all time, the

account of how much God loves you. And of course I am talking about the Bible.

Being followers of Jesus puts a strong call on our lives. We are called to be Disciples of our Lord Jesus. Being

a Disciple calls us to lead disciplined lives. These disciplines include: being present in the life of the Church, to

engaging in an active prayer life, sharing our gifts and talents to build the Kingdom. All baptized followers of

Jesus need to share our faith and be invitational inviting our neighbors to Church.

We all need to be disciplined in reading and studying our Bibles. We should read our Bibles daily.

Most all of us read. We read newspapers and magazines. We read novels and pamphlets. Some of us read

facebook, Instagram, blogs and all kinds of internet “stuff”. I read these things also. How many of us include

reading the Bible in our reading list?

If you do not know where to start, I offer suggestions. Begin by reading one Psalm per day and by reading

at least one chapter of the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John). Mark is the shortest. My favorite is

Luke. After reading a Gospel then read Acts (Luke and Acts are a two volume set). After reading a Gospel

and Acts read Genesis then Exodus. Then start incorporating Paul’s letters and more of the OT. There are

also recommendations for reading the Bible in a year which are easily found.

If you get stuck or become confused give me a call or email ([email protected]). Don’t be distressed if

you are confused, the Bible is sometimes confusing for even the best scholars. A Study Bible helps and there

are many options. My favorite is The Harper Collins Study Bible, New Revised Standard Version. Read the

introductions for each of the books as you begin a new book. Rev. Terry Pfeiffer uses an Oxford Study Bible,

have him show it to you to see what the condition of your Bible should look like.

I challenge each of us to read our Bibles daily. Make reading and studying the Word of God a daily part of

your life. I believe reading the Bible is an essential part of the call of Christians.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

The Prayer Shawl Ministry is celebrating our 7th

Anniversary. On June 17, 2014, our first shawl was

given. Since that time 518 shawls have been given or

mailed to church members and their family and friends.

Over 50 women have knitted, crocheted, woven or

sewn shawls for those who grieve, those that are ill

and for those who celebrate baptism and weddings and

members that reach their 90th birthday. Many people

have prayed over each shawl.

We added prayer squares and prayer hearts to our

ministry. We give these to those members who have a

shawl but need to know we are still thinking of them.

We also have beautiful bags that have been decorated

by men, women and children for each shawl. A prayer is

added to each bag.

The Missions Committee would like to thank the many

of you who have helped make this ministry a success. A

special thanks to Cindy Keener who has kept all these

records.

We would welcome any new members. We can always

use more prayers, ideas, shawls, hearts and squares. If

you have questions contact Margey Pfeiffer or Cindy

Keener.

Epworth Children's Home

One of the big newer initiatives of Epworth is placing

children in Foster Homes. Epworth is training and

certifying Foster Families. Currently Epworth has

in Columbia, Greenville and Charleston. The team

from Charleston is now screening and certifying

families in Beaufort. There is an urgent need for

placements in the Beaufort area. Epworth is asking if

the membership of CSUMC would place signs in their

yards to help get the word out. Signs are available in

the Fellowship Hall. If anyone is interested in finding

out more about becoming a Foster Family, please call

the Charleston office at 843-670-4733.

news, engaging readers, providing a forum for dialogue and sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is independent but

receives funding from the South Carolina Conference of the UMC and other sources, including subscriptions, ads and

donations. It also operates a successful Christian book publishing arm.
