you Can the Change World 2012 ANNUAL REPORT A Vibrant Community powered by You and the Community Foundation Dear Friends In 2012, you told us you wanted more for your community: greater impact for those in need, more vibrancy, increased arts & culture, more opportunity, and more fun! The Community Foundation turned 15 years old in 2012, and like any good teenager, the Foundation wants more, too: more impact in the lives of those in need, more community relevance, more information for people who want to give in meaningful ways, andmore fun. What’s this focus on fun? In 2012, the Foundation led a commu- nity visioning process and asked thousands of people “What matters most to you about living here?” People told us they like being in the parks and on the Greenway, they like getting out and meeting others, they like the clean air, the size of the town, the sports, the arts, and even the weather. They also told us about things they don’t like so well and offered their ideas for change. One thing is clear: we all want lives that are enjoyable. Safety, warmth, connection, food, schools, and meaningful work are important to everyone. With you, the Community Foundation works hard to make this a fun place to live, a place where basic needs are met, human kindness is evident, and everyone has a shot. With your support, the Community Foundation has been— Giving to the Community $892,886 in Grants & Allocations supported the work of area nonprofits in 2012. Because of your gifts, charities worked passionately on important causes, including the plight of home- less families and hungry children, the availability of medical care for low-income people, opportunities to keep young people in our community, the promise of our arts, theater, and music scene, and many more. Saving for the Future The Foundation’s Endowment and Funds grew to over $6.6 million and provide the community with a future of support to meet the region’s ever-changing needs. Breaking New Ground Choice Health & Fitness opened in 2012 to rave reviews. The Foundation is pleased to have secured several million dollars in private funds for this center which has been whole-heartedly embraced by the community. Leading Initiatives NV360 Community Visioning project brought people, nonprofits, businesses, and civic leaders together to discuss our present and future. In 2012, the Foundation led this visioning process, presented the NV360 results, and started implementation with the new NV360 Action Team. EngageTheForks.com, the online community engagement platform, was launched by the Founda- tion and the City of Grand Forks. In 2012, EngageTheForks.com hosted energetic conversations on housing needs, community visioning, and use and development of our parks. The Foundation’s programs and services are in high demand, and thanks to you, we have the capacity to respond. Please review this annual report for a snapshot of the health and reach of the Community Foundation. Here’s to more fun in your life and in the life of our community! A Vibrant Community…powered by You and the Community FoundationDear Friends In 2012, you told us you wanted more for your community: greater impact for those in need, more vibrancy, increased arts & culture, more opportunity, and … more fun!

The Community Foundation turned 15 years old in 2012, and like any good teenager, the Foundation wants more, too: more impact in the lives of those in need, more community relevance, more information for people who want to give in meaningful ways, and…more fun.

What’s this focus on fun? In 2012, the Foundation led a commu-nity visioning process and asked thousands of people “What matters most to you about living here?” People told us they like being in the parks and on the Greenway, they like getting out and meeting others, they like the clean air, the size of the town, the sports, the arts, and even the weather.
