This chart reflects the results of three sections : A, B and C. According to the chart, theno. of students failed in both the exams is 20 in Section A and 15 in Section B and 17 inSection C. The no. of students failed in Half-yearly Examination in Section A is 12, SectionB is 13 and Section C is 13. The number of students who have passed in Half-yearlyexamination is very less, from Section A, just 2 students have passed, Section B just 3students and from Section C, 5 students have passed. The number of students who havepassed in both the exams is very high. From Section A, 40 students have passed, FromSection B, 44 have passed and from Section C, 45 students have passed.

2. Smoking–The Greatest Killer

Smoking is becoming a big problem in the society, specially among the youth. Althoughgovernment has made certain rules for no smoking zones and there are many placeswhere smoking is banned yet it engulfs so many people and becomes the cause of manydiseases. According to the survey done in a society, it was found that 20% feel that itshould be banned in places where there is a risk of fire. 30% people feel that it should beprohibited in public places. 43% feel that it should be banned completely. While 7% feelthat there should be no restriction.

1. Increasing Theft

Life of the people is becoming quite unsafe. Crime is on an increase, specially theft cases.According to the recent survey done in the Janakpuri area of Delhi, it was seen that thereis a steep rise in theft rate during last 10 to 12 years. In the year 2000, there were only 11cases reported which rose to 30 in the year 2004. The number remained almost the samefor two years, then again in 2008 it rose and by 2010 it reached to 45 cases. In 2012 the no.of cases was really shocking. There were around 70 such cases of minor and major thefts.The police should take some strict actions to stop this and make it a safe place to live in.

2. Increase in Road Accidents

With the increase in population, there is an increase in vehicles on roads and it has alsobecome a status symbol. The youngsters today drive their vehicles so rash that it gets outof control and they meet with an accident and many a times it is fatal. This rash drivingand avoiding traffic rules has become the major cause of these accidents. According to thechart, it can be seen that in last 8 years in Agra there has been a steep rise in the numberof accidents. In the year 2004, the number of accidents registered were 12 with minor risein next two years. Then the number rose to 25 by the year 2008. In the next 2 years thenumber of accidents registered were about 40 but the year 2012 saw a major rise and thenumber rose to 55. These are the cases which are registered, other than these cases theremust have been many smaller accident cases. The traffic police therefore must be morevigilant and citizens more careful while driving.

Drugs have become very common in our society. It is a social evil which makes the personhollow from inside.Drugs are of many kinds, but basically the harmful ones are the narcotic drugs. Persononce used to it cannot come out of the habit. He or she becomes addicted to it and itbecomes impossible for him to pass a day without taking the dose. The body becomes soaccustomed to it that without it the person feels lifeless. These drugs along with harmingthe health also harm the pocket because they are very expensive. People try to get it byhook or crook and if they don’t have money, they indulge into wrong activities like theftand selling off their own expensive things. Therefore, we should use machines judiciously. It should work as your slave not ourmaster.

India is famous for its rich culture but we areobsessed with the views that if we dress up like people in the west, eat their food andspeak like them we are modern; forgetting that our culture is being ruined.

Modernization means being open to the modern developments, techniques, achieving goodeducation, coming out of the superstitious beliefs and being liberal in our views. We shouldtry to make our life expand. Medical sciences should be enhanced and life should be livedhappily with contentment. If we have all this, we are modernized.

Wearing short dresses, enjoying Pizza and burgers but with no love and respect for eachother does not make us modern. Modernization and westernization are two different aspects.

In Firozabad many children can be seen working in glass factories. It is really pathetic tosee the children working there because the conditions there are miserable.

Many children below the age of 14 years can be seen working in glass factories in dingycells with hardly any light. The children when asked the reason replied that they had towork to support their families

They are unable to adjust their eyes in light and many young children were found to havelost their eyesight at a very small age.

These children belong to poor families. Due to poverty, instead of sending them to schoolit becomes a compulsion for the family to send them to work. It was a distressing sight tosee the children working in hazardous conditions.

A Blood Donation Camp was organised in St. Andrews School. The occasion was gracedwith the presence of the doctors of Samarpan Blood Bank and medical college. Dr. Bhatt,Principal of the Medical college inaugurated the camp and was the first one to donate theblood.

The management, the teachers and the students of class XII also donated their bloodwhereas the parents of many young students also showed their enthusiasm to be a part ofthis noble cause and donated their blood. The doctors could collect about 150 units of bloodof different groups. They themselves were surprised at such an unexpected and a wonderfulresponse.

Before winding up the camp i.e., leaving the school, the doctors addressed the teachersand the students to express their thanks and how this blood donated by everyone wouldhelp in saving the lives of many.

2. Taj Mahotsav at Agra—Rajan

Like every year this year too the Taj Mahotsav was held in Agra. It is a trade fair wherepeople from all over the country come to sell their goods. This is the best time for theartisans to show their craftsmanship.

The fair was inaugurated by Mr. Ajay Chauhan, D.M., Agra on 18th of February and endedon 27th of February.

There were more than 500 stalls in Taj festival, dealing in clothes, wood work, homemade spices and pickles etc. Other than this there were counters for edibles. There weremany attractions for children, different rides, car striking and other games. There wasfull provision of safety with enough police recruited everywhere in fair. There were manycultural events too. Artists of national and international fame came and performed on thestage. Overall the fair attracted a large number of people and did even a better businessthan the previous years.

Once a traveller was travelling on a horse back with a view to explore the city. Whileriding he came across a remote area and all of a sudden the sky was covered with darkclouds and it started raining heavily. He rushed but due to rain the horse couldn’t runfast. Finally he came across a cottage. Without hesitating he knocked at the door but hegot no response, although he could hear the sounds coming from inside. He knocked evenharder. Suddenly the door opened and he was pulled inside. He was shocked and when hebecame a bit normal he realised that the people sitting there were indulging in drugaddiction. He was surprised and soon he also started behaving as though he also neededdrugs. He bought them and hid them in his pocket acting as though he was under the spellof those narcotics. When everybody was totally lost, he slipped out of the room, climbedhis horse and ran away from there. He straight away went to the police station, informedthe police and with his efforts the police was able to raid the place. Addicted people weresent to the rehabilitation centre and next day it was in the news headlines.

2. United we Stand, Divided we Fall

There was a farmer. His name was Charan Das. He had four sons Ramesh, Deepak, Jagatand Ravi. They all kept on quarrelling with each other. Charan Das was very worried ashe was getting old. He thought that if his sons will not live unitedly. They will waste theentire wealth. He planned to teach them a lesson.

He called all four of his sons and gave them one stick each asking them to break. The boyswere surprised at this and could easily, break it. Then the farmer gave them each a pile offour sticks and asked them to break. No one could do it.

He told his sons that this shows that if they fight, they will be alone and easily cheated byothers but if they stay together they can never be cheated. Rather they will be strongerand do a good business.

All the sons realised their mistake and promised never to quarrel with each other but stayunited. This made him happy.

1. Hard Work Pays

There were two boys Baljeet and Kuldeep. They were best friends. Baljeet belonged to arich family and could afford to buy whatever he wanted to, but Kuldeep belonged to a poorfamily and sometimes he was even unable to pay his tuition fee. Baljeet would help him inthat. They both loved each other and were ready to help each other. There was only onemain difference that Baljeet was not good at studies. Kuldeep used to help him in studiesand always asked him to study hard as he himself was quite good.

They studied together till grade X and after that Baljeet’s parents sent him to Shimla forfurther studies. He completed his management course but with average marks whereasKuldeep stayed in the same city, completed his management course from there itself butwith flying colors. He got placement in Delhi in a big company as Senior Manager directly.When he joined the company and was introduced to his subordinates, he was surprised tosee Baljeet working as a Junior manager under him. He was happy and excited butcontrolled himself. Later they met each other, hugged and enjoyed.

In office they were serious and after that their friendship continued.

2. Dog, the Most Faithful Friend

There was a man named Raman. He worked as a manager in one of the insurance companies.He had a wife named Sapna a daughter and a son. They all lived a happy life in Lucknow.They also had a pet dog, whom they called Boozo. The dog was very faithful. He lovedthem all.

One day Mr. Raman while returning from office met with an accident. He was so injuredthat his left limbs became paralysed, he was unable to walk and move his left arm. He wasconfined to bed.

At first the dog felt bad, thinking that he was being ignored but finally it seemed heunderstood the problem. He used to come and force Mr. Raman to raise his hand and pathim. One day Mr. Raman took hold of the string round his neck, he pulled it out whichforced Mr. Raman to get on to his feet although he couldn’t stand for more than a minutebut this gave him courage. Gradually the same exercise helped him to move a fewsteps and a day came when Mr. Raman could walk, although not very straight but yes,the medicines and the efforts of Boozo helped Mr. Raman to stand on his feet and gainconfidence. Mr. Raman resumed his duties after four months and all the family felt obligedto their pet. They were thankful to the devotion of their pet.

The theorywas that the earth was the centre of the universe. Heavenly bodies rotated around it.Copernicus theory went against the traditional theory as well as the Bible. ButCopernicus findings were not suppressed.Galileo (1564–1642), the Italian scientist, also accepted Copernicus theory. But in 1633,he was made recant by the church. However, even then the earth revolved round thesun as it does now. So, we gain nothing by suppressing a scientist’s findings. Truthshould come to light however disturbing it may be. (5 marks)
