Mothers2 Kings 11:1-3

“When Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she rose and destroyed all the royal offspring. But

Jehosheba, the daughter of King Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah and stole him from among the

king’s sons who were being put to death, and placed him and his nurse in the

bedroom. So they hid him from Athaliah, and he was not put to death. So he was hidden

with her in the house of the LORD six years, while Athaliah was reigning over the land.”

1. A Woman of Self-centered Ambition–Athaliah, the Queen Mother. –She followed the ways of her parents. –Wickedly ambitious.

Ambition–Athaliah, the Queen Mother. –She followed the ways of her parents. –Wickedly ambitious. –Athaliah represents the anti-mother!

2. A Woman of Sacrifice–The Spiritual opposite of Athaliah.–She reveals remarkable courage.–She displays the compassion of Yahweh.–She hides Joash in the house of the LORD

(Temple). –Today, that house is the body of Christ,

represented by the community of believers.

“O LORD, I love the habitation of Your house And the place where Your glory

dwells.” - Psalm 26:8, NASB95

“One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek: That I may

dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD And to meditate in His

temple.” - Psalm 27:4, NASB95
