Chapter 3.07

Accepting the Differences

Jessica was quick to return to work despite having only given birth a few days ago. Despite that though her boss was happy to great her with a promotion making her a SWAT Team Leader.

The highlight of her day though was defiantly coming home, where she got greeted by her husband and her kids.

Little Hiccup settled into the Junior family easily. Despite being smaller than normal he didn’t find it difficult to make his needs known.Both Jessica and Benji were ready to admit that Hiccup was much easier to take care of than the twins, seeing as with them they had to work out if Tsuki was crying for herself or her twin.

Of course the baby years weren’t meant to last and it wasn’t long before Hiccup hit his 1 st birthday.It was a quiet gathering, as it usually was, and Jessica was quick to blow out the candles for her little boy.

With a toss and a twirl Hiccup landed easily in his mother’s arms as a toddler. He had a huge grin and he giggled when Jessica smiled in return.“Going to stick to your size, huh?” She mused as she took in his much smaller than normal appearance. She couldn’t stop smiling though, especially when Hiccup wrapped his stubby arms around her neck in a hug.“Guess being small isn’t so bad.”

Benji was quick to get to work on helping Hiccup hit all his milestones. Despite his small size Hiccup hit everything right on time, much to her parents’ relief.

It was on the first day of winter when the twins birthday finally rolled around. Surrounded by family and friends they made a wish, and blew out their candles before allowing themselves to fall into their next stage of life.

Jessica heaved as her breakfast made a very unwelcome reappearance in the toilet bowl before she fell backwards with a groan.She had been suffering from a very persistent stomach bug for at least a week now and she couldn’t wait until it finally left her body. She was actually thinking of having her dad make her some medicine but she wasn’t going to do that unless it got any worse.“Jess! The carpool is here!” Benji suddenly called out causing Jessica to sigh as she pushed herself to her feet.“Coming!” For now she just had to live with it, she was a mother of 3 and also had a Life Time Want to complete. She did not have time to be sick.

Later that evening Jessica returned home with a relieved smile. Her stomach was still rolling and she couldn't keep down the lunch she ate but she had finally been promoted.Finally she can leave behind the dangerous assignments and do what she wanted to do from the start, protect her family and her town. She was now a Police Officer of Midnight Valley.

Hiccup’s birthday rolled around quickly, and it wasn’t long before Jessica was holding him in front of a freshly baked cake surrounded by family and friends.With a truly wonderful display of spit and drool, Hiccup blew out his candles before being placed on the floor.

With a wiggle and a laugh Hiccup stood as a small but extremely happy child.

Life continues on in the Junior household and it has become painfully obvious how different Tayó and Tsuki actually were.As children you would never see the two apart but now it was rare for them two to actually be together. Normally if Tsuki was tub pirating, Tayó was beating someone at chess. What none of the family realised though, was that normal life was about to be turned on it’s head and it all started with a very surprising revelation.

“So another one, huh?” Benji mused but despite his doubtful tone he couldn’t stop himself from smiling. Jessica on the other hand wasn’t exactly thrilled about the news.“Benny I just turned 40, I’m too old to have another baby.”“Well your body doesn’t seem to think so, and neither do I.” Benji said causing Jessica to smile at him thankfully.“But Benny it’s going to be so young when we turn into elders and, as much as I hate to say it, my parents don’t have much longer left either. Are you sure we should do this?”“Jess, could you honestly have an abortion and live the rest of your life with a clear consciences?” Benji questioned and Jessica shook her head sadly.“No.”“Then stop worrying so much. So what if we have grey hair when their growing up? It’ll be our baby and that’s all that matters.” Benji said and Jessica grinned with tears in her eyes.“You’re right. I’m sorry it’s the hormones, they make me think about stupid things.” She admitted before sniffing hard causing Benji to laugh quietly.

“Hey, did you change your make up?” Benji suddenly questioned and Jessica nodded with a blush on her cheeks.“Y-yeah. I thought it was about time I let go of that silly vow to be different, as long as I’m happy it shouldn’t matter if I have markings or not.” Jessica whispered causing Benji to grin. He knew it must have been so hard for his wife to let go of her complicated make-up, something which reminded her of something she had lost when she was a child, but he was glad she did. With a grin he brushed his hand against her blushing cheeks and allowed her hair to fall around his fingers.“I much prefer this look. It’s more...natural. Let’s me see your beautiful eyes all the time instead of just a few glimpses here and there.” Benji shamelessly admitted and Jessica grinned.

“Not too normal?” She clarified causing Benji to pull her into his arms.“Sweetheart you are as far from normal as anyone can ever be.” He swore before he kissed her passionately, which Jessica was glad to return with just as much force.The two of them weren’t seen for the rest of the night.

That night most of the household slept peacefully, except for Elijah and Puck. The two of the had been acting strangely all day and all though it had been noticed, the two of them didn’t make any move to reveal what was wrong.“Is everyone asleep?” Puck whispered as Elijah walked inside the living room. Elijah smiled as he sat beside his husband and wrapped his arm around him.“Everyone is out cold. By the time they wake up, it’ll be all over.” He swore causing Puck to sigh sadly.“I wish we could have met our newest grandchild, I would have like to know what they would be like.” He admitted and Elijah hummed in agreement.

“That’s why we kept this secret though, love. With the new baby we didn’t want to worry everyone with this.” Elijah said and Puck nodded in understanding.“I know. I love you.” “I love you too.” Elijah whispered before they both felt the room become cold.

What the two were unaware of though was of their grandchildren’s nightly activates. Both Tayó and Tsuki had a habit of sneaking downstairs late Saturday nights jut to spend time together, of which they had done so that night.“I’m not going to let you beat me this time, Ty!” Tsuki swore before she suddenly shivered as a cold chill spread across the room.“Why did it get so cold in here all of a sudden?” She whispered as she wrapped her arms around herself. Tayó though was looking over at the living room with wide eyes.‘Grandpa! Granddad!’ He said across their shared link causing Tsuki to gasp.“Oh my god! No!”

“Elijah and Puck Junior, your time is up!” The Grim Reaper announced as the Hula Zombies began to dance behind him.“We know. We’ve been waiting for you.” Puck admitted causing the Grim Reaper to hum understandingly.“Yes, I do find that’s what souls who have died naturally tend to do.” He said before he noticed something over Puck’s shoulder.“I’m sorry to say that your wish to go unnoticed as been ignored.”“What?!” Puck gasped as both he and Elijah spun around in shock.

To both Elders’ horror Tayó and Tsuki stood at the entranceway staring at them in horror. Tsuki suddenly burst into tears as soon as her eyes caught hold of her Grandparents’ while Tayó tried very hard to hold back his own tears.“Oh. T-Tsuki please don’t cry.” Puck stammered as he took a step towards his mourning grandchildren. The Grim Reaper’s hand on his shoulder stopped him though and when he looked back, he was shaking his hooded head.“They can no longer hear you and you can no longer touch them. They can only see you because you are dying the natural way, it’s basically a final farewell.” The Reaper explained and Puck nodded sadly.Neither of them though noticed how Tayó flinched before he looked at the Grim Reaper in shock.

Or at least those 3 didn’t notice.“You saw that, right Belle?” “Of course I did Anna I’m not blind.” Belle hissed behind her smile as she felt her sister pull on her hair all the while keeping up the dance.“Should we tell him?” Anna questioned as she took in Tayó’s appearance, watching as he continued to stare right at the Grim Reaper in shock. “Later. Let him send these two off first, he defiantly won’t be happy about this.”

“Let’s go then. I don’t want to make them suffer anymore than they have too.” Puck announced after taking a deep breath. The Grim Reaper nodded before he suddenly summoned a drink in his hand.“For the trip there, it’ll be a long one.” He admitted causing Puck to roll his eyes as he accepted it.“It’s doesn’t have alcohol in it right?” “It is whatever you want it to be. That’s part of the good side of being dead.” The Grim Reaper shrugged and Puck could have sworn he was smiling.“Mmm, we’ll see about that.” Puck said before he allowed the Grim Reaper to pass him over.

The tears Tayó was trying to hold back finally fell as he watched his Granddad’s soul pass over to the other side. Tsuki hadn’t stopped crying though and Tayó quickly wrapped an around her shoulder to comfort her.“This can’t be h-happ-pen-ning.” She stammered between her sobs. Tayó tightened his grip on her shoulders as he realized their Grandpa Elijah was next.

“Is Imogen over there? And my parents?” Elijah questioned as he accepted the drink offered to him. The Grim Reaper nodded as his scythe appeared once again in his hand.“Yes, they are all waiting for you to join them. Imogen is getting especially impatient.” He admitted causing Elijah to chuckle.“That’s my daughter.” He laughed before he looked over at the twins. His smile turned sad, he knew they wouldn’t hear his final words but he still spoke.“Good luck you two. Make sure you keep this family going strong.”

Benji groaned as he was awoken from his sleep by loud cries, it took Benji’s sleepy mind a couple of seconds before he realized it was his wife who was making the loud cries.“Jess? What’s the matter?”

Jessica sniffed as she tried to stop the tears from running down her cheeks. She swallowed hard, trying to get her composer back.“I-I’m s-sorry to w-wake you B-Benny.” She stuttered having not wanted to wake up her husband.“Don’t be silly, love. What’s the matter?” He questioned but Jessica stayed silent. When his arm went around her shoulder though she lost all control of her emotions and once again burst into tears.

“G-god! I-I t-thought I-I h-had more time! I-I t-thought t-they h-had a-at least a-a couple o-of d-days left!” Jessica blubbered and Benji struggled to make send of what she was saying.“Jess, I don’t understand. What are you trying to say?”“They’re dead, Benji! My parents just died!” She cried out causing her husband’s eyes to widen in complete shock.“I-I don’t k-know h-how I know. I-it c-could be j-just instinct o-or something to d-do with the Legacy b-but I just know they’re gone.” She explained sadly before her breath starting hitching.“T-they didn’t e-even g-get a chance to meet their final grandchild!” She whimpered before she started sobbing all over again.

Benji hugged his wife tighter as he tried to come to terms with what she had just said. Sure he knew Elijah and Puck weren’t going to live much longer but he could have sworn they had at least a week left, maybe more than that.That’s what they had been led to believe anyway. Benji then closed his eyes as it suddenly all made sense. They had lied to them, they knew when they were going but, hoping it wouldn’t be so bad, they kept it to themselves. “I’m so sorry, Jess.” Benji whispered but Jessica just continued to cry into her hands.

“There better be alcohol in this because I’m going to need it.”-With that Generation 2 has come officially to an end. I can’t believe it guys I’ve completed 2 generations, this is like a huge step for me. Also my 1st Legacy Anniversary is coming up, so hopefully I’ll be able to get Generation 3 over before then.Right so busy chapter this time! Hiccup continued to grow, the twins differences became more obvious, another baby is on the way (Something I didn’t plan, in fact none of the kids this generation had been planned. I just left it to Jess and Benji) Elijah and Puck passed away and finally the plotline for this generation (And next) is finally started to show itself properly! Few I was very busy this chapter.
