I want to thank the hundreds of volunteers and the Chamber staff who commit their time, talent and treasure to the goals of our organization. Because of them, our Chamber is truly driving business success in Richardson. Below are just a few expamples.

GrowthOur East Arapaho Redevelopment Task Force Action Plan was adopted by the City Council. The city has initiated a $250K update to its Arapaho Transit Oriented Development plan and will include our proposed Innovation District in its study. That study will address the urban design, zoning and public investment needs outlined in our action plan.

MobilityWith the Chamber’s continued urging, the DART Board finally approved the financing plan for the Cotton Belt line, which will run through CityLine and north of UT Dallas to DFW Air-port. Construction should begin in late 2018 with a comple-tion goal of 2022, continuing Richardson’s tradition of being a hub of transportation.

International businessThe Mayor’s Office of International Business received a 2017 fDI Strategy Award “best of the best” award for its soft land-ing services. This recognition is directly attributable to the International Concierge Program which provides hands-on support to foreign companies establishing operations in Richardson.

Workforce developmentThe Chamber continues its work with members and edu-cational institutions to increase the talent pool for high-de-mand skills and to continue to grow the quality workforce.

In 2017 we launched the State of the District event featur-ing RISD Superintendent Dr. Jeannie Stone, who described how companies can partner with local schools. Two popular new programs launched in early 2018, the culmination of thoughtful, strategic planning this past year: the iDream

Public policy/advocacyWe created and advocated our state legislative agenda and followed the mixed-results 2017 session with a report card about issues and how local legislators voted with business needs. We increased our federal advocacy by implementing a leadership trip to Washington DC in 2017; our first DC Fly-In was a hit!

Member valueWe continued building member value through additional pro-gramming including a full year of Executive After Hours events.

We also developed and prepared two new programs launched in early 2018: the Lowe Foundation “Peerspectives” CEO Round-table program, and Collin County Small Business Development Center’s Executive Advisory Board program.

Our popular annual golf and bowling tournaments continue to be strong draws for members and sponsors.

Member engagementWe recruited 21 new mid-market companies to join the Chamber because of a focused recruitment initiative which is driving the development of skilled trades academies in Richardson and Lake Highlands high schools.

The first iDream Day matched professionals with RISD 7th graders.

Economic Development

The Richardson Economic Development Partnership (REDP) re-corded 27 Richardson expansion and relocation projects resulting in adding or retaining 2,744 jobs and the occupancy of 1,045,545 square feet of office and flex space. In terms of new Richardson jobs created, the largest expansion and relocation projects of 2017 were Genpact (500 jobs), Goldman Sachs (400 jobs), BAL Global (350 jobs), and Service King (200 jobs).

REDP continued its redevelopment efforts in 2017, presenting the East Arapaho Task Force’s recommendations to the City Council in April that called for an innovation theme for the East Arapaho area. The Task Force also formulated a private investment plan for the 1,200-acre district located east of Central Expressway and south of Campbell Road, and it explored marketing and branding concepts.

REDP enhanced its talent attraction campaign microsite to be more mobile friendly, easier to update and more content rich. The improved microsite was launched in December. RealRichardson.com provides young professionals with key information about working, residing and enjoying life in Richardson.

REDP sponsored five economic gardening clients, which are rev-enue-generating technology startups that receive guidance and strategies instead of traditional economic development assistance, such as workforce development or tax credits.

During 2017, the Mayor’s Office of International Business was involved in 28 international delegation visits and meetings with foreign dignitaries that included 133 foreign visitors.

Goals• Attract and retain targeted companies• Increase the number, quality and variety of job opportunities• Support small and entrepreneurial businesses

Events & Programs

The Chamber hosts a number of events to educate, update and connect members. Two different events recognize the com-panies and individuals who contribute to growing Richardson: EDGE awards and the Annual Meeting. The Annual Meeting recognized our volunteers of the year (left) and the EDGE event hosted many of Richardson’s corporations, like GEICO (right).

The Citizen of the Year was long-time city council mem-ber Bob Townsend. Volunteers recognized include: Cory Stevens of Drew’s Realty; Bill Schaid, Kiwanis Club; NOAH’s event center; Robert Smith, Saville Dodgen; Bowling Tour-nament Committee; Ronda Moreland, RKM Media. EDGE awards went to Richardson Restaurant Park, Pampillonia Jewelers, Armor Defense, State Farm Insurance, Genpact, RealPage, Richardson Adult Literacy Center, Campbell Way Center and NICE.

Below are attendees from a Women in Leadership luncheon (Dana Sheppard, Cindi Jackson, Fran Harris, Kelly Bowman and Sandee Treptow). One of the teams from the Richardson Chamber Bowling Tournament show off their matching t-shirts.

EDGE award recipient State Farm was recognized for their environmental efforts with their new buildings.

Being good stewards with the membership dollars we’ve been entrusted is very important to us. The Chamber once again received a clean audit with a ‘high level of financial competency’ note.Financial Stewardship

The Chamber has a particularly strong working relationship with fed-eral, state and city elected officials. The Public Policy committee works diligently to prepare a legislative agenda to determine top priorities for our city in preparation for the biennual Texas legislative session.

The Richardson Chamber is one of the few in the area that produces a scorecard of how our elected officials voted in alignment with this selected legislative agenda. It creates frank dialogue in keeping them accountable to our long-term interests.

The Richardson delegation to Austin included visits with our senator and representatives and the Speaker, along with speakers on topics from transportation to ethics reform to economic development.
