As you can see, with all the new, 1st and 2nd generation SAT, TV and CATV digital modulations, it has become impossible to remember all the measurement values at various combinations of FEC, CONSTELLATION, etc; considering that with the current 5 modulations, DVB-S, S2, T, T2, C, the possible combinations become hundreds.
ROVER is always attentive to users’ needs and has created a table of “Suggested Measurement” with various examplesaccordingtothemodulations,seefig.1.
AllROVERmetersarecurrentlysuppliedwiththesetableprintedonthebag’slight-shieldflap,sotthattheyarealways clearly visible and can help the installer who wants to exactly understand the various measurements, NOISE MARGIN - MER - BER - PER etc.
ROVER has gone one step further, thanks to a sophisticated SW supplied with each meter, it can automatically calculate all the reception parameter combinations (FEC, Constellation, etc..). and provide the “AUTOMATIC QUALITY” indication for any SAT - TV & CATV signal:

Rover Instruments reminds you that the analogue TV switch off is well underway in Europe. Some countries, such as Spain and Italy, have decided to install digital TV “SFN” (Single Frequency Networks), in other words a national television broadcaster has the same frequency/channel all over the country. This provides a fantastic opportunity, but also means that in areas between two cells, it is possible to receive the same signals from more than one transmitter. If the “SFN” network has been designed well, the SFN signals’ slight propagation delay (which we will call “echoes”), coming from the different distances in which the transmitters are situated, becomes absorbed in the invaluable GUARD INTERVAL function, present in the DVB-T & T2 (COFDM) modulation and consequently there will not be any reception problems. In any case, experience over the last few years has shown us that reality is different to theory, especially when there are many local television networks that could generate many interferences. You could therefore encounter the unpleasant experience of receiving a signal with good power, but that cannot show any pictures and not be able to establish the cause of the fault. In this case it is indispensible to measure the IMPULSE RESPONSE in real time, to measure the echo’s delay or advance compared to the main signal. When changing direction and position of the antenna it is possible to optimize reception intuitively, by maximising the power of the main signal and minimize the power of interference echoes, also at the expense of the channel power.OnceagainRoverInstrumentsisthefirstcompanytosupplymetersforTVinstallers,thatcanmeasureupto16ECHOESandPRE-ECHOES in real time. ROVER meters allow you to see ECHOES, measure the power and the delay in uS and the distance of the interfering broadcaster in Km. There are currently very few meters that allow you to measure ECHOES and PRE-ECHOES, in real time and at a distance of up to 75 Km, higher than the maximum amplitude possible with the GUARD INTERVAL and above all that can highlight, using the green mask, the useful reception area, in other words within the guard interval. ThewidthoftheGUARDINTERVALvariesaccordingtothemodulationparameters:consultthetablebelowtofindthewidthoftheGUARDINTERVALandallthepossibleDVB-Tconfigurations.

ROVER meters use very high quality batteries that do not have a memory effect, but require some maintenance. This is because, if they are badly charged, they tend to reduce their capacity within a few months. Therefore with ageing, the battery indicator can supply contrasting indications. For this reason ROVER has developed a sophisticated software, for all its new meters, that allows you to regenerate/measure exactly how many minutes the battery lasts. The battery indicator also has an important role: often in the evening you may choose not to recharge your meter, but the following morning the indicator could show “full battery”, even though it is only half. If you implement this new “battery test” function in your meter you can regenerate/measure your batteries and calibrate the battery indicator, which we suggest you do every two months. May we remind you that if you replace the batteries, without regeneratingthemandcontinuouschargingthembadlyafterafewmonths,youwillfindyourselfinthesamesituationwheninrealitythebatteryisstillefficientandonlyneedstoberegenerated.

How to quickly adjust headends simultaneously showing up to 100 digital or analog TV channels.This function allows you to perfectly and quickly adjust headend levels; up to 100 channels simply and quickly thanks to a bar chart representation. Once the channels have been memorized, automatically using the “AUTOMEMORY” function or manually, or using a PC “MANUMEMORY” simply press the Bar Scan key and in two seconds you will automatically see all the channels (from 1 to 100) as bars . Each channel has its level bar, digital channels are BLUE, analog channels YELLOW.The marker can be positioned on the various bars/channels by rotating the encoder so you can automatically read the channel, its frequency and level. Obviously you can read directly from the scale on the left, which is perfectly linear and has levels chosen automatically by the meter.Italsoautomaticallychosesthebar’swidth:widebarsforfewchannels(fig.1),narrowbarsformanychannels(fig.2).In other words it is like seeing the spectrum in full span (VHF+UHF), but it is perfectly stable and you can visualize only the channels you areinterestedin,i.e.Theonesyouhavestoredwhereaswithafullspanspectrumitisdifficulttocomprehendthevariouschannellevels,seefig.3.Obviously it is also possible to visualize channels that have not been stored, i.e. in TV CHANNEL PLAN (or MASTER PLAN), but in this case it does not distinguish the ANALOG channels from the DIGITAL ones, even though it is perfect for FULL-DIGITAL zones.It takesapproximately2secondstorefreshthevariouschannels/levels, inotherwords ifyouadjust the levelofaspecificchannel inaselective headend, in less than 2 seconds the display is refreshed, isn’t that fantastic? OUTDOOR RX Antenna
With ROVER meters it is possible to correctly and easily install “GSM” band telephone micro-repeaters without risk. These are used and are often indispensable in shops, warehouses, underground car parks and even simply in homes just at the limits of service areas.Obviously we suggest to everyone to learn about and follow the instructions of micro-repeater manufacturers. As you know, outdoor antennas must never see internal ones to avoid self-oscillating phenomena, which can cause blocks to telephone cells and generate grievous economic damage to the operator.As all new ROVER meters have an extended TV band up to 1000 MHz and are the only ones t have canalized the band above TV channel 69. These products are used in the TV network infrastructures and monitoring systems of the most important network operators in the field (RAI, MEDIASET, TDF, ORF, etc),
The first DVB–T (digital terrestrial) network in Italy was installed by RAI in 2004 using ROVER products and the following year covered 65% of the population, ROVER’s “CMP” receiver is a vital part of that network; it processes and provides a digital satellite signal to various digital transmitters for signal distribution, Equally important is the product developed by ROVER for ELETTRONICA INDUSTRIALE
MEDIASET Group) to realise the first DVB–H
digital network in Italy, The Head-End,
Mod. “SAS800”, was specifically designed by
ROVER for MEDIASET and includes multiple functions in only one 19” rack unit, for example: SAT signal reception, transport stream analysis, multi-program signal decoding, switching to an alternative ASI input if primary stream errors are detected and the possibility of connecting via SNMP or WEB to a local or remote P, C, for monitoring purposes, More than 1400 units were installed in MEDIASET and TIM sites for the completion of the entire DVB–H network,

each network operator; they can
be grouped into the following families:
• DVB–T, DVB–S, DVB–S2, PDH single and multistream professional receivers
• MPEG2 and MPEG4 decoders• SDI, ASI, etc, change-overs and splitters• Demodulators/adapters (QPSK/ASI, 8PSK/ASI,
ASI/ASI, G703/ASI, IP/ASI, etc,)• 19” rack mounted instruments• Portable field meters and monitoring.
